Certainly unlikely, but unless Bonz is our list manager he couldn't possibly know that for certain.

That was just off a discussion with a player manager last week.

Things can change but it would involve a lot.

  • Sydney agreeing to trade Campbell
  • Campbell agreeing to go to Carlton (this is the far tougher ask(

As Campbell just signed a new contract, I am guessing he is very very happy in his hometown in SYDNEY.

Carlton would likely have to give a large amount of cash in order to turn his head, and his not worth that currently.

Right now it is going to be difficult to get players to join Carlton, there are multiple questions about their culture, their coach is not guaranteed to be in his job for long next season and lastly they could be able to do a big rebuild through compromised draftsm

I can't see Max King playing many AFL games (if any) in 2026 and suspect that even at VFL level he will frustrate by drifting out of games as he builds his footy IQ. However, his athletic profile is tremendous and he is quite developed for a 17/18 year old. I also think he has great hands and good timing when going for a mark. There is definitely a potential top liner there but we will all just have to be patient.
Agree with this unless Sydney were pulling one over on the whole competition and Max is played as a mid/fwd hybrid role like his u16s.

Medium/3rd tall forward can just be an awkward position to do well in

Bonz I think is speak for most swans fans here. You don’t need to defend yourself - all of the above is common sense.

I wish people would just take what second hand info is for what it is…. Not guaranteed but more than zero.

People across multiple fan bases seem to forget the critical point that the player has to agree to the move.

Which bloody A grade talent would want to go to Carlton right now in its sorry state. For this reason a lot of the time it isn't a player for player trade and just a bucket load of picks

John Ralph has just confirmed the worst kept secret about Charlie Cursenow. He only wants to go to Geelong, WE DO NOT NEED A PLAYER WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE AT OUR CLUB. Forget CURSENOW.

He hasn't said Curnow only wants to go to Geelong.

Just that he would prefer to and Sydney are remaining patient.

Sydney know Geelong don't have the resources to trade for him, so we will become more relevant with time.

This is doubly true as Geelong are prioritising Marshall.

Not gonna lie, the fact that Curnow doesn't want to actually nominate until Geelong are completely and utterly ruled out and we have to wait around and see if there is still time to make a deal makes me hope we walk away from the Curnow deal.

I'd rather we pursue JUH at that point and try to help him through his issues. Instead of being Curnow's backup option.

I understand that Curnow wants to play at a winning club and he's a professional athlete and all that, but being a backup option for him makes me think he won't go all in on being a Swan, and trying to win one. Especially when we'll have to pay him an absolute boatload of money for the remainder of his contract. Would he be as dedicated to keeping himself in shape? Would he work as hard in rehab? Would he work as hard for the team?

Curnow doing that probably give me more doubt about him than JUH's problems. I can see a world where JUH realises just how close he is to losing his footy livelihood and works his backside off to get himself right for the club that gives him a second chance. I think we've got a good track record of putting support networks in place for players coming to Sydney and he'd really benefit from that. He's also five years younger and doesn't have anywhere near the injury history that Curnow has, while having a similar level of talent.

There's a lot to play out, and I accept that sometimes a club has to take what is offered, and the Swans list management team have a very good track record over a long period of time so they deserve to be backed in. But thinking about what Curnow actually wants, and what we'd have to pay to get him in terms of trade capital and cap space, makes me think he's not worth it. I certainly wouldn't want to trade Hayward or Campbell for Curnow anymore.

Campbell for Curnow ? Start a go fund me and we can raise the cash ourselves.

I say, get it done Pav !

If we're trading anybody I'd rather trade Florent and give Campbell more responsibility. Or let Lloyd walk and give Campbell more responsibility.

I think Campbell has served his apprenticeship and should be backed in rather than traded. He just doesn't have the same confidence as somebody like Gulden, and as a result seems passive in games, but the talent is there.

Sure they’re welcome to Lloyd and Florent, agree Campbell is better for us now. But if it comes down to Charlie for Braeden it really is a no brainer.

I think this part will be the biggest problem in any Curnow trade. I understand Carlton wanting ready to go A grade players for Curnow, it makes sense for them, but who would actually want to go there this year? Players won't be putting their hands up to join the Blues, and so they won't be traded to the Blues if they don't want to go. Which would make trading for Curnow even more difficult.

It's why I won't be surprised if at some point over the next day or two we see a news story saying something along the lines of "Swans reignite interest in JUH/some other key forward, as they look for Curnow alternatives."

Don’t under estimate Geelong being able to get Curnow. I have a feeling it might be one of those deals where another club or possibly 2 or 3 get involved to facilitate a trade. It is trade period anything could happen and there will be a few surprises. I think he could end up on Gold Coast though if Geelong falls through. GC might want it as insurance in case King decides to return to Melbourne next year.
I hope Geelong somehow make this work, they will have to do something crazy to facilitate a trade either losing key players in their system or scraficing draft picks. This isnt a Free agent who can accept lower $ and get topped up with farms / Cows or Cotton On. This is club who will need to trade to get him.

Curnow to Geelong is very simular to coming to Syd, will be a nice toy to have but really doesn't address the real list issues they have.

Hasn't Max been in the Academy since he was 10, surely his footy IQ should be way more advanced than that of a non academy player, if not why isnt the academy identifying that and idenfying ways to fast track it?
