2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Common sense would dicatet we are gonna ask for a kings ransom in players (not picks), that same common sense would dictate youre unlikely to do it.
We are in furious agreement that St Kilda are going to ask for a kings ransom, as they should. Whether we are likely or unlikely to do it would depend on what the request was, I'm a little more open to trading some of the names mentioned in the threads on this website so I'm probably not a great spokesperson for what my club is willing or unwilling to do.

With all of that said, we still sit here with a little bit of discomfort on both ends because neither party has completely knocked it on the head. I'm mindful Ross did on Classified the night that Nasiah was announced to have re-signed, but a bit has happened since then and I think supporters of both clubs are a little curious as to why nothing has been said.

I have absolutely no discomfort at all FWIW.

I think there is, at best, a 1% we trade him but if we do youre gonna be giving us the sort of deal that only one eyed nuffies dream of.

Im good with it either way

Noting the kings ransom requirement, what trade would you do?

'Saints have made it known to Gold Coast that pick 7 is on the table for Flanders'

Yes you are correct 🙄
Sam Flanders has openly said he wishes to be traded. Why would the Dogs go public with what they're offering before the player they're after has made it public he's willing to leave? Zach Merrett hasn't officially requested a trade yet but is strongly linked to a move to Hawthorn and even in that scenario we don't know what Hawthorn are offering.

What do we consider "going nuclear"? Leaving an upper decker in the club toilets? A public statement released requesting a trade? I can't see any level of "going nuclear" that makes me happy with Wilkie going.

The fact he hasn't requested a trade thus far is because:

A) he has decided to not leave; or
B) as previously mentioned in this thread, he would only ask for a trade once the Dogs and Saints have worked out a deal (at least the rough outline of one). He is contracted and we hold the whip hand.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but 5 out of our top 10 from our B&F (including 2 out of the top 3) were picked up as rookies:

1st - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
2nd - Callum Wilkie (Rookie)
3rd - Jack Sinclair (Rookie)
4th - Max Hall (MSD - Rookie)
5th - Marcus Windhager
6th - Rowan Marshall (Rookie)
7th - Jack Higgins
8th - Cooper Sharman (MSD - Rookie)
9th - Mitch Owens
10th - Jack Macrae

Talk about finding diamonds in the rough consistently!
Yep. What it also says to me is that once you get past pick 10*, where the elite talent comes, from there it is then throw a blanket over the next 90 picks, main and Rookie drafts and then it is a mindset and maturity race amongst all of them for who will make it to being an AFL player that "makes it".

*notwithstanding last years outlier draft that probably pushed that pick 10 out to 20 with its depth

You are probably correct, however why would the Bulldogs offer in the first place if they are not serious in paying the price for a vital contracted player.
Will cost heaps in SC and trade capital. It is NOT a fair trade, it will cost Bulldogs a fortune.
Considering I know who drove this, I maintain that until the Bulldogs put offers of substance on the table, they are not a serious football club.
The manager?

I took this photo last night. For anyone who is worried SOS is doing this all alone, and trying to ruin Carlton in the process. There’s 6 people involved in all of this, plus a very serious board room, led by Bassat… and all the heavy hitters with the $$$ that I’m sure have a small amount of input into the board as well. If Lyon has to meet with the board each month, I’m guessing the list management crew have the same accountability too.View attachment 2441766

suddenly it makes more sense:
Take It Personally Michael Jordan GIF

Not to the Saints, just he wants to leave.

If Bulldogs are a serious club, they would have leaked what they are offering. They are sitting there with their fingers crossed.
But nothing. I think I know why. Others here know as well.

If the offer was Freijah and pick 10.

It’s an offer that gets it done
Of course that would get it done, I imagine that would be what St Kilda would ask for.

I personally wouldn't go that far, but I'm not going to be that guy and tell you all what your player is worth on your board. I think we can at least agree that St Kilda are considering how they can make this work for them, as I'm sure Essendon would have done when St Kilda approached Zach Merrett last year.

If Wilkie wants out and wants out bad id certainly look at that (noting im only ticking it off if we know SDK is coming as Wilkie coverage) but as per the below.
That's hideous
I reckon the club is gonna be asking for more

That's hideous

Personally I think it's ok. But it doesn't fit with the clubs strategy and that's the issue.

With that deal we are going to be worse off in 2026 and waiting for Freijah and pick 10 to develop before we reap the rewards.

Clearly the club aims to start contending from next year onwards and we need Wilkie or a similarly elite defender.

This is the crux of the issue.

Youre open about being more willing than most Dogs supporters to trade guys... Id say im usually the same as a saints supporter (ask about my suggestion on Marshall) but even you think thats probably over, i think its probably under (just not by much).

90% of supporters and likely list managers arent gonna agree with us so.... impasse. As expected.

Why the fook did we give Carroll two years. Would much rather Arie, or even Ronnie take that list spot. Puzzling.
Hindsight though.

JC has midfield traits we don't really have. Explosive left foot midfielder.

His fitness coming from Carlton was surprisingly average. Looked like Tarzan, ran like Jane. Even more surprising was that his endurance was one of the things that was talked up about him as a kid.

The injuries he has had were unfortunate but I am actually glad we don't have the option to delist him. Another preseason in our system could be just what he needs. He is still just a kid, think about how many wrote off Max Hall before this year.

I'm not as bullish as I was with him, but (assuming he doesn't go anywhere) I'm still interested to see how he can go next year abd hopefully he surprises us.
