  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Pick 34 is fair for a guy with concussion issues and only averages around 10 disposals a game

It’s not even about that for me.

Pick 34 should be more than fair for a guy who could leave in free agency to basically any other club and net Brisbane nothing, since they’re bringing in two free agents of their own.

Yep

It does annoy the shit out of me.

But slagging Clarke and demanding he get the arse over just about every trade does get tiresome.
Just 1 i would like them to show some balls on just 1 . When as a club can you remember us getting the better over someone ? Or just break even

All I can remember is the GC pick swap and yeo who had a break out a couple of years after we got him

The below was in a fox footy update

This is how we should be looking to add Robertson to our list. He has no trade value as he was probably going to be delisted by Brisbane anyway

And getting him onto the rookie list keeps our main list spots open which we will for the draft

11 spots - 7 main, 4 rookie

Move Cripps to rookie list to make it an 8/3 split

• Young and Starcevich traded onto main list
• Use 4 early draft picks
• Match likely bid on Banfield and one of either Evans or Williams if/when one comes

Rounds out the 8 main list spots

• Add Robertson to rookie list as an agreed SSP signing plus one other mature aged player - Berry, Tunstill, Blimares, Murdoch or anyone else you care to think of
• Would leave one spot open:
- Williams or Evans if one gets through the main draft without a bid or
- Wes Walley or
- Another mature aged player or
- An unexpected slider from the main draft

Delisting Livingstone would open up a Cat B spot for either Walley or Evans/Williams as an alternative option for them
Recent draft history says Blimaires likely will go in the national draft. Sam Davidson went to dogs last year at pick 51. I think Riley Bice went to sydney at pick 41. Given the success of the mid season drafting eagles have had i wonder if they have a pick set for a mature aged vfl player to help the 23-27 year gap. So trade up picks to get three top end talent and a mature age and then match bids late.

I tend to agree with pick 34 for Starcevich. Given the situation though, do we potentially give 34 to Richmond for Young and give 19 to Brisbane for Starcevich and Robertson and ask for an F3 as well?

I'm really happy with our trading this season and last. Should manage to bring in two really solid B22 players in Baker and Starcevich, as well as good role players in Graham and Dev. Have also been very smart with some rookies in McCarthy, Maric and Brock.

Nail this draft and we will have a great mix of young developing talent with some seasoned mid-20s to lead them few the next couple of seasons. Should be a very good team by 2028.

I tend to agree.

I think it's important to be aware of the risk but the talk of him being 'one head knock from retirement' is just pure hyperbole.

As has been mentioned above, every player can be considered 'one knock from retirement'.
Well no that's not quite true when the afl medically assess you and tells you your finished they take into account how many you have had . If a player has had 2 he is more likely to be allowed to play on than a guy with 5

He may not want to medically retire and be told to after his 5th in 2 years

His job is literally to balance and manage the list by bringing in players as cheaply as possible and selling players for the highest price possible.

Baker wanted to come regardless, it was Clarke’s job to pay as little as possible or even a fair price. Especially with his Richmond contacts.

I haven’t reassessed his ability since he publicly blurted out what he was prepared to pay for Baker but nothing since that moment has changed to make me think he’s even the 17th best list manager in the competition.

I will mercifully await Keys’ retrospective trade thread to discuss his failures, there will be more than enough prospective ones to discuss here.

The cheapest way to get talent remains through the draft. The trade system should be used to augment a broader list strategy that hinges on success in the draft. All trading of players into the club come with a premium and need to generate instant on field benefits in almost all cases.

Some glaring mistakes over the last decade.
1. Long contracts, over paying for existing "stars" contracts.
2. Target the wrong players. Fridge, uncompetitive or defective. (Witherden, Owies, SPS, Langdon, etc...)
3. Overpay for opposition players due to lack of creativity and clear forward planning. (Kelly & Baker trades).
4. Historically not moving on players at the point where they're most valuable. Again due to poor strategic planning and inaccurate assessment of our list and the direction of the game.

The recruitment of Starcevich, Robertson and Young are moves based on short term survival rather than building towards sustained success. The same applies to last year's draft and FA moves.

Pyke is in no position to talk about past list management mistakes until he drives a successful offseason.

Hell , we burned a three year deal on yeo whose career is over, we renegotiated waterman’s deal when we didn’t have to and he missed most of the year injured. , we burned a list spot and two years on tim Kelly , resigned friggin Tom Cole..

Easy to see the end of career can happen anytime to anyone…. I’d have more faith in starc playing more games next year than any of the above.

All that you forgot 4 more years for Hutch. For shame.

I don't mind getting starcivich Dev and young if we don't give up big draft capital

Hawks 2nd starcivich
Hawks 3rd young
DFA Robertson

Use hawks 1st (15) + PP to upgrade and get farrow or Shubert and the picks we got for barrass have been used wisely

Surely we do something about the ruck situation this offseason?

Simply cannot go into next season with the current crop.
Hard to find someone who’s available and would be a likely improvement on what we’ve got.

I suggested Soldo, based on the fact that he’s out of favour at Port, still only 29, and his Dubai-based girlfriend might find Perth more convenient than Adelaide. But it turns out apparently she’s quit her job and moved back to Melbourne.

Nick Madden is one younger candidate I’d look at. Ned Reeves is a more mature option but it sounds like he’s re-signing.

Dunno who else there is. Don’t say Moyle, that’s not happening.

Completely agree but how do we actually do that without giving up insane draft capital?

Darcy Cameron was the obvious one and he's re-signed with Collingwood. I don't see anyone else being available that moves the needle.
