Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I would much rather pay Steele and have him as depth, than see him unceremoniously shipped off the Dopers. Jesus Christ, have we no shame? Are we trying to punish him? I know there isn't much room for sentimentality in football, but that is a fate worse than retirement.

Also, he comes out of contract in 2027, when we'll probably need to shed some salary anyway.

Explain to me how he can be shipped off anywhere when
1. He is contracted
2. He has made it known he wants to stay and fight for his position.
3. He has already given WCE a hard no. Even if WC went loopy and offered pick 1 for him, we can't force him or ship him off anywhere.

Like the rest of you I'm delighted with our trades already. I think each of them will improve our team. If we get another, a star from left field, I'll be equally as thrilled and excited. But........I don't want to stall the development of the talent we have in our young blokes by them not being able to crack the AFL team for another couple of years.

The solution to that problem is that after both the Saints AFL and VFL teams win their first 15 consecutive games, we judiciously rotate some younger players through the senior side and rest some of the mature players to freshen them up to win some finals. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it!!

Well at least he will be guaranteed playing midfield for them.
But yeah, in a losing one more often than not.

Wasn't Mcguane thought to be a chance of being a number 1 pick at some stage? I just assumed his underwhelming top year form was him tanking his draft value for Collingwood.

This is 100% the case - watch him jump from the rookie list. I'm surprised the media isn't talking about it more. Big risk not to nominate him for the ND though. I hope someone else gets him with their last pick, will serve them right.

We'd need to get at least 2 first rounders from Geelong considering their pick this year is essentially a 2nd rounder. Else we don't have a spine. Enough with letting Geelong have their way every trade period

Because he is 29 year old mid that has been out of form for three years, averaged 20 touches a game as a genuine mid and has been asked to look for other options.

He holds very little value unfortunately

Not uncommon to be asked for credible evidence or otherwise in regards to a derogatory opinion. Especially when it flies in the face of facts and reality.

Career high of 17.7 disps a game in 2023

Only averaged above 15 for a season 5 times

Career high 25 goals in 2022

Only gone above 20 goals 3 times in a season

Career high goal assists in 2022 with 25

Has had single digit assists in a season 5 times

Averages 2.1 tackles a game across his career



Those are VFL player stats.

Just because a player gets linked to us from another team doesn’t mean they slide into our 22 straight away.

Hasn't RTB stated that he can't see a midfield with Macrae & Steele both in it.
Maybe the club has put thought into this, to give him that opportunity somewhere else
He'd prefer not to leave & that's a great message for us.
But does he really want to be just depth, which seems the possibility.
