I ****ing hate it. We paid overs last year for an out of contract player and it was all about good will. Well now we're back again for another out of contract player and again they want overs - what happened to our good will?

Give and take doesn't work if it's just us giving and them taking.
We would be paying overs because our only option is to trade for him since otherwise the AFL will water down our Allen compensation (the real prize), and we have to offer Starcevich more than he’s worth as a player because we are so bad that nobody is signing to play for us without getting significant overs.

I guess we could just pull the offer to Starcevich but ultimately we aren’t getting anybody else as good as or better than him, because everyone who fits in that category has plenty of suitors and doesn’t want to move across the country to play for the runaway wooden spooners.

Very much enjoy how whenever another team dares to start negotiations with an obvious one side deal in their favour, some people here demand we immediately pull out of the deal, refuse to ever deal with them again, bid on every academy or FS pick they have and firebomb their headquarters.
As opposed to just accepting the one sided deal which seems a common theme recently.

Would like at least now and then for the club to do the same or at least counter with a one sided deal the other way

Comment chain was about Young.

I didn't claim to "know" anything as in i have secret knowledge. I have an opinion, which is what these Boards are for, that he will never cut it at AFL level. And that is based on the fact that he goes completely missing in games for long periods of time. A couple of quarters can go by and you wouldn't even know he was on the field. You don't see him or hear his name called. If you are having a bad game and struggling to find the footy then a player with good mental aptitude will try and contribute in some other way. Tackles, smothers, blocks for a team mate, running hard to create an option for a team mate with the ball. He has skills with ball in hand but he doesn't get enough of the ball in his hands (probably because he doesn't run hard enough) and nor does he try and compete hard enough and make a contribution when he doesn't have the ball in his hands.
Have you ever played forward pocket in a historically s***house side?

Correct, we have decided to trade for a player we don't need to trade for to suit another deal that benefits us and people are getting angry with Brisbane for asking for more than we are willing to pay? It's bloody hilarious.

Brisbane list manager acting very arrogant here

They have played in the last three Grand Finals, are back to pack Premiers, I think a little arrogance would be expected.

I agree with the consensus that Clarke performed a lot better this year in his interview.

I also agree with the others who noted that he’s just not a confident/comfortable speaker.

For me, this is certainly a worry because in negotiations if anyone encountered someone who spoke like that in the real world, they would sense weakness and twist the screw. Having just sat through 1.5 hours of List Manager interviews it does seem all of the others speak well and with authority and confidence. Hopefully for our sake all of this doesn’t matter and we simply just get the results we’re after.

Well your a sico then.

Some of us do say "if we do this.....are forced to accept it"

Then we return serve.

And we should.

Let's see where the cards fall. Then unleash hell. 😂

Some math on a possible Gold Coast points trade. I'm working on the assumption that Allen nets up Pick 2 and that Gold Coast trade Flanders for pick 7 (8 after Allen compo) and this is on-traded for Petracca.

Bids on Uwland and Patterson at 2 and 4 respectively will cost 3,999 points (with the discount applied).

Gold Coast’s draft hand would be:
7 – 1543 points
15 – 973 points
18 – 836 points
36 – 317 points
Total – 3,669

Leaving them with a shortfall of 330 points to match those bids.

They will probably pick up some extra points from Fiorini, Rosas, maybe Ainsworth etc. but there will still likely be a decent gap left to cover.

I haven’t completely crunched the numbers, but it does look like we are one of if not the only organisation with the picks to be able to offer a package for pick 7 that would provide a surplus in points.

Two fairly simple options below:
7 and 36 (1,860) for 17, 23 and 24 (2,153) – surplus of +293 points.
7 (1543) for 17, 23 and 38 (2,029) – surplus of +266.

If we lose 17… and honestly, if we lose 23… in the Starcevich trade, it becomes way harder to make a move like this work.

It's because we are accustomed to bumbling fools.

He seems like a real estate agent, and sadly that's the type of sociopath you want in this scenario.

Or a Thai wife who knows how to barter. 😂 :thumbsu:

Oh yeah the constant smirks. "In concerns to west coast there is more considerations to compensation probably more so than us.

The Hawks had already found out what we are still working out. He does not get the ball enough period.
I don't have the opinion that he's an out and out gun, but it's difficult to get a read on anyone's form when they're running around up forward for a side that can't win a clearance or transition the footy from defence to save themselves.

Edit to add: And certainly not enough of an opinion because of the above to classify him as lacking the mental fortitude to succeed in the league.

Funny how when Clark doesn’t name a price and talks down value this board thinks it’s weak - but when the Bris guy doesn’t name a price it’s arrogant 🤣

Why are we playing games with this arrogant glasses campaigner.

We've made an offer, it's more than a reasonable one for a regular concussion risk, take it or **** off c*nt. You've already announced Starcevich is going, so if the trade period comes and goes we'll take him in the PSD.

Don't even get me started on this Kent with Oscar Allen. Had the best part of 9 months to have the contract sorted, and now suddenly it's ducks and drake's holding up the paperwork despite you just clearly saying "Oscar Allen is our number one priority.."

Clearly not priority enough, f*ckwit.

Keys to add to your list of conspiracies, does the Oscar Allen band 1 compensation hinge on Brisbane being satisfied with the trade for Starcevich? A gift from Greg Swann in lieu of actually compelling the Eagles to hand over the compo pick to Brisbane. If Brisbane give the okay, the AFL signs off on band 1. If Brisbane gives a nay, the magic formula suddenly spits out band 2.

So what's the Lions leverage by withholding the Oscar free agency?

Would they reduce the $ offer, to not allow us the band 1 compo?

Thus screwing over Oscar in the process, and leaving the door open for us to just match and re-sign him.

As Clarke stated very well, both the Free Agency for Allen and our trade for Starcevich should be separate. As we are not looking to sign Starc as a free agent, we are trading for him.
