2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

Given we’ve not needed it for any manoeuvres thus far, keeping our F2 is now a big priority.

The changes to matching bids next year, where you can only use two picks, means high end second rounders will be absolutely gold to some clubs.

Plenty of ways to move up to a GC 7/8 with our current hand alone.
agree with this, we still have Chesser & Ryan trades to come through and at worst Chesser for T Young pick.
Ryan should be a pick this year as he is contracted, but given our situation with picks and list spots, more than happy to push that into 2026 with an upgrade!
Go into 2026 with all our picks and a 2nd round STK pick, we still have plenty to do next year with all our more highly rated NGA/FS prospects and a couple of elite top 5 picks imo.
GC pick 7 is easily attainable with 13 & 34 and no bids or 13 & 34 & 38 and a F2nd or F3rd back.
So an extra F2nd or F3rd from GC.

Leaving Gold Coast’s picks 7 and 8 and Carlton’s pick 10 aside for now, because they are likely going to be involved in future trades.

Bids on Uwland, Patterson, Annable and Dean are set to eat picks 15, 17, 18, 22, 23. And it’s probable Gold Coast make a deal with 7 that results in another 1-2 picks being eaten in the top 25. Bids on Sweid and King could eat picks 27 and 30 and 32.

So could be 9-10 picks burned to match bids on 6 players in the top 30.

That would mean our picks 34 and 38 actually end up more like 30 and 34.

...which is actually not that exciting now that I’ve written it out.
If they come in like that, it's a combined 200 point boost for us to match bids on Williams and Banfield.

Would much prefer picks this year for one or both of Ryan and Chesser

Also in relation to Gold Coast and their points - they will lose more than just pick 7 or 8 trading for Petracca

Melbourne will want 2x R1 picks for him at least
Agree, what does everyone think the offer will be?
8 & 15 or 18 or something with 2nd rounds involved, futures?

So Duursma has point of seperation from others, speed, distance running, marking and being able to make game opening kicks are all strengths over others. CDT however is a jack of MOST trades (cant take a contested mark to save his life) and master of none.

So with confirmation of Allen getting us pick 2, is the 2017 trade with gold coast for our F1 the greatest pick swap we've ever done, taking into account flow on effects? We got the picks for Allen, Ryan, and Petrucelle from trading them pick 50 and swapping our F1 for their F2 - what ended up being a three spot slide. All three players spent eight years on the list, with one being a premiership player and AA, another being captain and leading goal scorer, and the third existing. Ryan will now get us something in a trade and Allen has gotten us pick 2 - not a bad return at all!

Now that OA and Starc are sorted - what do we expect to receive for Liam Ryan?
Saints first pick is 50, and we would spew up if that was genuinely offered.

Surely its a F2 or we just don't trade him?

Had to be west coast getting the band 1 pick 2 compo for the AFL to decide the system is a rort.

Almost 40 years of propping the competition up and when we run into strife they balk at the system.
Apparently Ben McKay being worth pick 3 wasn't enough of a joke?

The compensation system should definitely change; it's stupid that compensation for the same player can range from pick 2 to pick 19 depending on which club he happens to play for. It's a dumb system because it encourages bad teams to let good players go so they can pile up draft picks, and the whole thing with Starcevich was a farce because the club was forced to trade for him to avoid pick 2 being watered down. So Brisbane lose Starcevich and get extra draft capital because the Eagles had no choice but to trade, meanwhile they sign Draper and Allen and lose nothing but money.

Looking like we really need a young KPD. Is it Archer or will he be our future ruck?

I have an interest in Thredgold or Curtin this year. Likely landing with a pick around 20. We have Shanahan as a NGA coming next year. His development will be one to watch.
