  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane
Out:

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

If Essendon are giving up their 5 for Richmond's 3, they no longer hold 5?
Good point. I meant 3 for 6. So 3 + 5 with Essendon, 4 + 6 with Richmond.

Double parked on a Wednesday night...with the not so subtle suggestion from the coach that he might be due a water or two?

It’s after the 2R finishes, so not necessarily pick 37.

For whatever reason this is how I understood the bid matching process would work. But someone, and I forget who, posted up part of the AFL article announcing the new changes which specifically says from pick 37 onwards bids can be matched with the next selection. There’s no mention of a connection to the end of R2. See below

That’s from the AFL article back in August 2024 explaining the changes so I can only assume it’s correct

Unless clubs like Brisbane and Gold Coast, maybe Carlton as well, start using late R1 picks to match then pick 37 is going to be a relatively early R2 pick since R1 likely blow out into the low thirties - it’s already at 23

I assume the recruiters share their top 10 draft prorities and hence can optimise their picks available vs player required. Pick trading will then based on these information for negotiation.

The only explanation I can offer is that article assumes an uncompromised draft. It certainly reads as you’ve said but I don’t believe that’s correct.

It would also fit with the reluctance of teams to offer anything of value for F3s last year yet that wasn’t observed with F2s, particularly late selections.

As with many things AFL I guess we’ll find out on the night.

I'm no draft expert, but all i hear it is a weaker draft than normal.

Given how poor we are, and have been, why in hell would we want to give up one of the top two picks, why would we just not pick the two best players available, god knows we need talent.

Dont swap picks just take the top 2 players in the draft

Who is ranked 2nd best?

Could throw a blanket over 6 players.

And we have several Melbourne clubs very keen on CDT. They will pay a premium to jump ahead.

We still get our 2nd ranked player.

Plus we get our 3rd ranked player by splitting.

1. DUURSMA
5.Sharp
6. Cumming or Schubert.

Or we don't spit and pay more for Sharp than any other club would.

That isn't very efficient use of pick 2 is it?

So you are OK missing out on a gun top 10 player in Cumming or Schubert for no reason other than "keep it simple and don't split".

We still get Sharp or an equivalent quality mid.

Id be waiting until next year. Out of contract and will be easier

If Walter see's JUH taking his spot and he misses finals we go hard.

Would be great if Walter picked up some niggles, spends time playing VFL and misses finals.

And we show solid improvement.

That is when we strike.

Are their any good ruck's in this draft? I know Marshall is linked with Geelong but given Ryan wants to go to saints maybe we could make something happen?

Also what are getting for Chesser and what are we giving for Young? I heard we aren't giving 34 for young?
It was mentioned that apparently we have asked for Marshall in the Ryan deal

Agreed

Sounds like Duursma is clear cut number 1 so take him

If we reckon we can get whoever we rate 2nd by trading down and getting an extra high pick of course we should do it

Hird reminds me of Lance Armstrong in how he continued to deny and make excuses.
Taking the win at all costs to an all new level of narcissism.
Armstrong is number 1 on my list of celebrities I want to fight. God-awful person. Watch his ESPN doc and you can see that campaigner hasn't changed one bit.

Should be going hard now. The fact they are even entertaining JUH is an insult to Jed.

I hope we pick Duursma. Looks abit like a Jordan Dawson type and clear #1 in this draft.
Has anything been said about his flight-risk/homesickness?

Latest talk is pretty positive on that front, seems pretty happy to move to Perth. Harley seems to be liking all his social media atm, rumour is he’ll move in with him.
