List Changes - 2025
In:
  • Brandon Starcevich arrives at West Coast in a three team deal
  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane
Out:
  • Oscar Allen joins Brisbane as a FA - West Coast receive Pick 2 as compensation
  • Liam Ryan and a 2027 R3 pick has been traded to St Kilda for a 2026 R2 pick
  • Campbell Chesser has been traded to Carlton for Pick 41

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

If we get pick 41 from Carlton we will have enough lower picks to get Young from Richmond.
As for Liam Ryan i would hold him to his contract. You only trade him if we get a fair deal and he seems to be St. Kildas
least priority. Yes he might be worth less next year we may never know but i think he is worth more playing one more year than some token pick this year.
How could he be worth less next year if it’s a token pick this year?

If he’s valued at nothing this year, next year won’t be less.

It’s a cheek to chase a player (who has been an AA) and offer a fat contract and have nothing to pay for him.

Keep Ryan especially if he’s happy to stay. He’s just being pursued as something of value from the WC carcass.
And something of value which they won’t have to pay fair value because WC are seen as pushovers in negotiating.

We need future picks for highly rated NGA/FS next year too
We do get more picks next year but we seem to be losing best 22 players faster than we get them .

Out mcgovern allen ryan chesser

In starcivich young and Dev and a bunch of rookie.

Is our team getting better going into next year ?

Our team would be much better with ryan than a pick we wait a year to get

Mcgovern missed half the year.
Chesser most of it
Allan most of it
Yeo all of it

They weren't there.

Next year.
Those three and hopefully Yeo go straight in.

Also large part of the issues with us last year was that we were too young and too underdeveloped physically. Another year of weight gain for the kids (not you Harley) will be a huge help.

Also Waterman. Straight replacement for the Allen trade loss.

Improvement from:
Reid
Shanahan
McCarthy
Bo Allan
Hewett
Gibney

Who should all be starting to take a more influential role in the team to varying degrees.

While you'd also expect Hall, Dewar, Maric, Brockman, A Reid to either find another gear or be replaced by new/improved players which should see the bar raised.

Waterman and Yeo hardly played last year and Kelly was hampered, he was delivering much better output end of year.

While we are losing players (same with literally every club) outside of McGovern none were pushing top 10 in the team to make significant influence.

Why would we bother trading ryan for a 30s pick next year ?

We need best 22 players or decent draft picks this year
I hear ya but our list spots seem very limited this year and next year is a stronger draft meaning we could bet better value for it next year and also have enough list spots to actually use it.

Help with matching bids next year and can be traded up for large F/S and NGA groups. We dont have the list spots for many picks this year.

We just got 4 extra rookie spots.

And have 9 players leaving.

But don't have list spots?

We move two veterans onto the rookie list we then have list spots for the main draft and later picks.

Cripps and Cole obvious choices.

I watched him live at the Metro game. He was good but not great. Not list changing.

There are a number of posters who have watched a number of his games (in person not just a narrow set of highlight reels) and have stated (1) he is not the best ruck in the draft (2) he is not in the best 2 KPF's in this draft and (3) the fact that he can help at clearances following up is a must because he will not be winning many HO to advantage.

Part of the reason Jackson at Freo's are so good at stoppages and clearances is that Jackson has Brayshaw, Serong, Young and Bolton to hit to. Make it Graham, Kelly, Harley and Hall and the Jackson impact would be negligible.

In testing, his agility and running were good but his jumping was sh1thouse. What attributes do you really want from a tall option?

If we had a great midfield, I could consider pulling the trigger. We do not.
Generally agree and if there was a gun mid on equal footing with him, then sign me up. But who is that? Maybe Sharp? But it seems nobody except WC fans consider him worthy of 2.

We should take Duursma at 1 then
I think we need to take the west coast goggles off a bit on this one.

Great, fantastic we get P2 for Allen. 100% over the moon.

However. There is no way in hell Allen, as a RFA, should net any club P2.
It's similar to the McKay situation the other year that we all shat on.

Other clubs, supporters, media people etc are aloud to be pissed and upset with this. We would be too if it wasn't benefiting us.

FA needs to change. Get rid of restricted FA, get ride of compensation picks, untie FA and the draft. I don't know how or the best way, but it needs to change for the the benefit of all clubs.
I think the compo tied to ladder position is one of the few things the AFL do to help equalisation. It could be further improved by allowing bottom of the ladder clubs to take multiple FA’s without diluting their compo if they are losing a FA.
Perhaps dilute or remove compo for clubs up the top.

But don't have list spots?

We had 2 extra rookies thanks to the mid season draft, so we’ve effectively only got 2 extra spots through the assistance package.

Annnnnd we see what a ****fest the system is:
  • Premiers get 2x free agents for nothing (Band 1 & Band 2)
  • Premiers Band 1 FA is being poached from the wooden spooners
  • Premiers have a RFA that wants to go to wooden spooners.
  • Premiers get to bend over wooden spooners by forcing a trade dor RFA by holding FA compo over wooden spooners heads.

🌈 Equalisation 🌈 working as intended. Don't forget the top 4 academy pick they get for peanuts same draft.
Horrible system.

Leaves the bottom teams to squabble with one another about Free Agent compensation picks
We should take Duursma at 1 then

I think it probably helps in theory, but the reality is that it leaves bottom teams squabbling amongst themselves over the top end draft picks, as we've seen with us getting pick 2 this year. The only people that has any significant impact on is the other cellar dwellers, while the top teams fill up their boots with quality free agents for no cost. Nice idea in theory, but it's an active contributor to the inequality we've seen bear out this year.

Livingstone I cant see staying so it will be 3 spots available

Also do we know if Maric is on the main list yet?

Based on the lists in the Season Guide at the start of the year and the Records during the year, he was upgraded ahead of 2025.

I wonder how Waterman is progressing. Haven't heard anything and it was a pretty significant injury particularly given his marking strength was timing and marking the ball above his head.
Hope he still has full mobility in his shoulders.

3 or potentially even 4 first rounders
4 NGAs or F/S who I would like added to main or rookie list depending on how the draft falls
Dev
Young
Starcevich
Livingstone (if we keep him which I hope we do)

In a draft thats not particularly deep I'd prefer assets next year when the WA crop in particular is quite strong.

You are proving my point . We need experienced players or we are heading towards another spoon .

Ryan For a future 30s pick is stupid

Would you rather Ryan for a current 30s pick? How does that help to bring in an experienced player to avoid a spoon?

Should be right pre Christmas so shouldn't be an issue.

Reading between the lines.

OP maybe?

Or maybe just being 17 and 200cm tall. Growing bodies take time to settle down
Unfortunately he doesn't have the athletic profile of his brother

Cody would have suited 80s and 90s football where you played 1 on 1 but with zone defence and spare behind the ball you need pace on the lead.

You also need to not be a witches hat when your team doesn't have the ball
