Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I'm coming around to O'Keeffe taking on a key forward role. Has the athleticism, body work and the hands for it. Hope he sorts out his kicking and hamstrings.

I'm so glad we are finally tackling our forward deficiencies issue I've been going on about the last 3 seasons. Ainsworth is a great get for us and I am all onboard with Hayward.

Wright is going to be really good for us. All of a sudden these things I have been mentioning for years, lack of pace, lack of run, lack of genuine forwards, lack of pace in the middle. Finally seems to be a focus.

Recruiting players is not all about the recruiting team. A recruiting team without good direction goes into draft and trade period blind.

I've criticised Voss and the coaching team for not giving our recruiters more direction. For example lack of pace, lack of genuine forwards, lack of good kicks. The coach should be directing the recruiters so that we bring in players with these traits and I feel that the direction has been poor. All of a sudden it looks on the money.

We have taken a lot of players in the Voss era who we would not have even considered with our current direction. Wright and Davies are making an impression and their direction is giving me a lot of relief.

The rumours of who we have looked at and are trying to get all fits into this. Hayward and Ainsworth really excite me as they are genuine forwards, smaller forwards who crumb but also have a really strong marking game so when we are moving the ball forward they aren't sitting back waiting for the ball to go to the talls, they are making moves and giving us really strong options.

Rumours suggesting we have enquired about Humphrey, another genuine forward and a small forward with a strong overhead game. We are targeting the types we should have been for the last 3 or 4 years. Butters, the perfect target for us, a quick agile onballer to pair with Walsh. Carlton probably go into top 4 contention with a player like that if Walsh also stays fit.

Just on that, Walsh needs a partner like that, a quick dynamic mid equal to him. Stop saying Smith because that is some time away, same with Walker. Do this and Walsh doesn't get targeted as much, his body stays in better shape and his game becomes more damaging. More forward run from him. It also takes away a strategy teams use against us which is all about getting the ball out in space which is an easy kill for quicker opposition teams, Adelaide for example.

Curnow's trade can fix this team, I am sure of it, we just need to do this really well.

I rate HOKball as well… coming into his fourth season so fair chance he’ll start producing if his hammies hold up.

Reckon he’s going to be a very effective tall forward for us - strong, physical (which we’ve lacked in our key forwards (esp H) for too long), bit of speed and unlikely to get beaten in marking contests too often.

I’m excited to see him take on more of a role. If not for his draft position, reckon there would be a fair bit more excitement about him too.

This feels different to the last 20+ years.
It's very different. Every time I hear Wright and Davies speak, it gives me confidence in the direction that we are moving in.
It's not just about building a good list, it feels like an overhaul of the Club itself, a well needed one.

Realistically we are trading one player for TWO first round picks (one will help secure No1 Pick in Walker). We will add 2 x best 23 players from a successful club that are in their prime. The way they can help our youth grow is massive

Not to mention SC room for the future. This is as much about the future as the now

We are moving on a 29 year old that doesn't want to be here and tbh is a distraction.

Sometimes I think people's expectations is way too high. I think it's a good deal and for many reasons
Fair enough. Having to sell Charlie to assist in drafting a FS, is not something that I would put as a positive.
I just feel Charlie is worth more than 2 depth players, half a father son and a mid-round 1 pick in a poor draft.
Just my 2 cents.

Please do not bring that HOKball shit to the CFC. TY!

Wait to see how it all plays out SB. Pick 11 could easily be packaged up to get Pick 3 or 4?

Walker is a genuine Pick 1 and without another F1 we won't get him

Florent and Hayward are best 23 in a side that is better than ours. We have great youth, we just lack depth

and this is if it happens?

Wouldn't surprise me if Hayward's and Florent's combined contract exceeded Charlie's current front ended one.

You can put the house on it.
if we let curnow go and dont bring in a player that gets the playing group excited for the future the club is going to Have more problems then the supporters being upset

This is one occasion where the supporters are being short-sighted and entitled. Our salary cap blew out because we gave too much to too few. We still have 4 million dollar players. How many do other clubs have? Spread the talent across the team, not have 6 elites and a whole lot of C graders. Haven't we learned our lesson?

Are Sydney really a successful club or just enjoying the fruits of their next generation academy?

Hayward is aruably not even in our best 10 players. Florent might not even be in our best 23.

And their draft picks? Not all first rounders are equal.

What's Sydney's Pick 11 get pushed back to this year after the academy bids? 16? 18?

Same question next year - they improve a bit and it might not even be in the top 20.

We were going to have to sell someone since the AFL warned of the changes. Better to sell a 28 year old whose heart is no longer with us.
