This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

They want 9 plus a future 1st from a bottom 6 team plus a decent player either from us or another team. Impossible for us to provide that.
No they don't. They don't want anymore picks in this draft. We need to try trade 9 for a f1

For anyone out their losing their minds, most of the media had Dusty Martin coming out of retirement to play for Gold Coast this year. How well did that mail work out for them?

Keep the faith - a long way to go until 7:30 pm tomorrow night.
yeahhh but the faith here is to expect essendon to act rationally. i just don't have any of that....

Lets cool our jets people.

We won’t know until the trade period is over if Merrett is or isn’t getting done.

I would hope that if it’s not happening, we simply throw everything at Humphrey.

Keep the faith guys - Sammy & MM have a pretty good track record to date.

Honestly, you lot are driving me mad… I’m considering turning on trade radio…

ZM never really came out and said make me a hawk - but anyway we move on.

I feel Weddle is the key for next season and would love to see him train this off season with the midfield group and become that bull of a midfielder - but there a lot of smarter people than me at the footy club who know what they are doing.

He’s dead on tbh. If the deal, which now is sounding very dead, is on ZMs management.

Again, hes postured a move and nothing even close eventuated. Signing such a long deal with such a mediocre club is another blunder.

Ah well - hopefully we can engineer something.

If we walk to the draft with Pick 9, that is pretty bad as an outcome - we lose ground (Worps) while our strongest competitors arm up.

Two days to go, but even Barrass last year was well and truly in discussion by today. It is silence on the western front.
Losing Worps is not losing grounf
Especially with Day back in

Why can't Merrett come out and say make me a Hawk, instead of hiding behind a curtain
Makes you question how badly he actually wants a trade tbh… needed to blow it all up week one and publicly demand a trade… this half hearted approach just works in the bummers favour who don’t want to trade him…

Agree, it means we don’t play him as he’s not on the list and cam, butler, Moore and day improve our midfield 1000%
If we don’t get Merrett I would also keep HH and back in another pre season to get fitter and stronger to make an impact also.
Don’t blink. Offer fair deal without overpaying and if they aren’t reasonable keep our hand and back internal improvement as well as ability to find something in the draft.
Pick 9 is still an asset no matter the quality of the draft.

Weddle won't be playing as a midfielder. Sam has said as much. Weddle will play half back, wing and then push forward.

He was a first team player with 150 odd games experience. He was one of our primary first use players too.

If you think losing a first team player for zip is a win, then why did we push so hard for ZM if we were covered?

We aren’t strong enough in the middle and whilst I love Mackenzie, its asking a lot to fill the gap.

Lose Worpel
Add Day

Ward/ Frenchy natural progression

Worpel was not a primary first use player

So when Day was fit, was Worps not playing in the firsts?

The amount of disrespect Worps gets, people are basically using subtractive logic to make losing Worps work as a positive. It’s cope.

I would love nothing more than Day to run out all matches next season, and Mackenzie to go up levels.

But the odds of that is shakey and it leaves very little depth behind it. To make a deep finals push on that alone is very optimistic, particularly where we were thumped in the middle by both grand final teams.

Day will be playing less mid next year.

Sorry but this midfield ain’t coming close to competing with Brisbane, GC, Geelong… There’s a reason Sam is hell bent on bringing in two A grade mids, and that’s still the plan until it’s done.

What a roller coaster. One minute we are getting Merrett the next minute we are not. I can't keep up here. All I know is i trust our club.

I missed the part where I said Worpel wasn’t best 22

But your obviously disappointed he left, which is fine

It’s not cope, it’s reality, Worps served us well, but he didn’t have a defined role going fwd, and we clearly think we have moved past him

Decided on catching up with the ex this arvo for coffee and have some interesting tidbits.

Seems that 'other mid' we've been looking at is Ollie Florent. He's also the reason the Serong trade hasn't happened yet. Swans want a straight out trade whilst we've been trying to get Florent in as part of the Serong trade with picks but at this stage Swans are keener on including him somewhere else.
Talks still ongoing but Swans look like digging their heels in.

On Cam Mackenzie as already covered today there's just about zero chance of him being included in any trade. Sam was asked early doors by MM & the team about players he might give up but he was adamant that Cam was a required player.

We're still definitely chasing Bear. No idea where it stands atm though other than Suns taking a hard stance here.

Zach is the interesting one. We've made an offer to Essendon which they rejected. We're making (or have made) another offer but it's Essendon that wants to get a third club involved. No idea what the deals are so don't ask. We were expecting Zach to make a statement today which obviously he hasn't but instead of taking this as bad news we're seeing it as a positive sign that our second offer be favourably received.
Don't wait up. Even if the Zach trade is approved tomorrow it will in all likelihood not be announced till Wednesday morning (probably 5 mins before deadline knowing the AFL :) ) . At this point we're hopeful that it'll happen.

That's about it. No more coffees with him, I'm all coffee'd out.
