Imagine Brady had have pulled that one off!!! Imagine......

a) Would there still be the same level of irrational hatred for Rawlings?
b) Complaints from the nuffies about preferring Curnow over Finnbar Maley?
c) Complaints from the nuffies bemoaning how we didn't recruit a tall defender
d) Complaints from the nuffies over not having any 1st round picks, initially, for some time
Just checking, are you saying people are nuffies if they have any complaints? I’m more optimistic than many, but anyone who doesn’t have anything negative to say about North’s approach and execution is kind of delusional.

I'm one of the most optimistic posters on here but even i can see we need to do some things differently I'm certainly not all doom and gloom like some on here but like you say we need to change a few things to go forward and to improve in all aspects of the club. No problem with posters being critical of the club as long as it's a balanced both ways.

Sorry, they said the same thing last year, are you drinking their kool aid again?

If they were doomsdaying, I'd probably be confident, as invariably the opposite happens under Viney and Clarko's whenever they open their mouth under this reign.

No, it just proves these guys need the keys taken off them, as they are under total pressure for their jobs. They know it's now or never and most of these mistakes wont be theirs to deal with anyway.

Are these guys ****ing for real?

We requested 2 x R1 picks for Simpkin,

So we were prepared to pay our North F1, North 2027 R1, Collingwoods 2026 R1 and Collingwoods 2027 R1 for Charlie Curnow who turns 29 in February?

And we actually formally offered this? So Sonja and the board gave the approval for this deal?!

Clarko, Viney and Snoz have so many examples now of simply not being up to it at this point. Complete dinosaurs.

That type of deal is what you should be offering for a Sam Darcy, Harley Reid or Nick Daicos, not a player with an injury history and about 75 games left in his career.

How on earth do they think we can afford to spend 4 x R1 picks on anybody other than someone who is going to be playing with us for a decade? If they think we are that close, they are so far off the mark.
On the list of things we don’t need, an aging Charlie Curnow is close to the top of the list.

Especially for what was rumoured to be offered.

Club is insane.

Yes, I know it didn’t happen, but the offer shows a lot.

The entire footy journo world reported Collingwoods offer to us for Jy included a future first... which was flat out refuted by the club in post-trade eon interviews.

I'd be hesitant to take the reporting of 4x 1sts at face value

What's your opinion on the 11th hour bid for Curnow?

Hope this is not true.
To trade our captain and 2 x first round picks for Charlie Curnow???
I’m not sure what Clarkson and Viney are up to, but it does not seem they have the best of intentions to assist the NM football club
We all know what they are up to - they are in self preservation mode; looking for anyway to get out of the bottom 4 and willing to sacrifice our medium term future to do it.

Would have seen us without R1 selections in each of 2025, 2026 and 2027. Do you think that's responsible given our current list?
Probably not given where the list is at, but I don't think it's as bad an offer as it seems.
It's not all that different from the deals offered from Swans (#11 and two F1's wasn't it?) and Cats with three R1's.
Sure a 2026 R1 could be pick 5-12 depending on how much it improved the team in year one.
A 2027 R1 from us and Pies could be anywhere between 10-20 (5th last has pick 10, finals teams in 20's).
If Pies get Simpkin, I don't think they finish bottom 5 in 2027 and we should be on the cusp or in finals.

Asking the question doesn't surprise me as the club would have pledged to players that signed on (LDU, X, Larkey, Zurhaar, Comben, PC, Sheez etc.) to push for a flag. However unlikely the scenario of Curnow coming to us, it shows that group that the club is willing to make moves to win before their careers are done.

It's worth noting the Demons had no R1 selections in 2016, 2017 and 2018 because they traded for Lever in 2017 and May in 2018. Big difference is the age of Lever (21 yo) and May (think he was mid 20's) though.
You could argue we have more young talent than what the Dees had when they traded for Lever with pick 10 and F1 and May with pick 6. They had drafted Gawn (2009) and Viney (2012) in R2, whilst Hogan (2012), Salem (2013), Petracca and Brayshaw (2014), Oliver (2015) were the high end picks they amassed before Lever and May came.
The key thing was they drafted Spargo, Fritsch and Petty in 2017 in R2/R3, Sparrow and Jordon in R2 (2018).
Then got back into R1 with Jackson and Pickett, then Rivers in R2 in 2019. Drafted Bowey in R2 and added Brown 2020.
I don't think high end picks are the panacea in terms of building a flag team, but they do help turn games.

So whilst trading all that for a 28 year old is probably not the age we'd want to be targeting with that kind of deal, at some point to get a quality player, if they ever came to us, you are going to have to pay up big, especially if the draft is going to be seriously compromised every year with academy players and NGA kids.
Obviously most of the fans believe the flag team is built around that Sheezel core group and want to keep going to the draft. The problem with that is it doesn't mean you retain those young or older players if you keep losing.
Anyway, it's moot point, because Curnow was never going to a bottom four team, but the melts are good fun.

After 5 years of gloom, I really feel a lot of people are stuck in the pick numbers is football success mindset.

Oh no pick 20 whatever on a guy who will play 23 games q years for 7 years at a high standard. But but we could have had a random chance on some 18 year old the phantom drafts said was like Judy.

So what we had a crack at one of the leagues best forwards, brilliant as far as I'm concerned. How many 1st round picks do we need?

Our players need to learn to win and expect to win, as supporters we need to get out of the feeder club draft picks equal success mindset.

Let's start winning football games.
Let's stress less about 1st round 2nd round, or bringing in dregs so we think change will save us.

We ARE building nicely, have some faith.
