I know there’s a mock draft happening atm, but my version of it is currently:

ROUND ONE
  1. West Coast - Willem Duursma
  2. Gold Coast - Zeke Uwland
  3. West Coast - Cooper Duff-Tytler
  4. Gold Coast - Dylan Patterson
  5. Brisbane - Daniel Annable
  6. Richmond - Sullivan Robey
  7. Richmond - Sam Grlj
  8. Carlton - Harry Dean
  9. Essendon - Xavier Taylor
  10. Essendon - Sam Cumming
  11. Melbourne - Jevan Phillipou
  12. Melbourne - Lachy Dovaston
  13. Hawthorn - Oliver Greeves
  14. Carlton - Aidan Schubert
  15. Greater Western Sydney - Jacob Farrow
  16. West Coast - Dyson Sharp
  17. Western Bulldogs - Josh Lindsay
  18. Adelaide - Mitch Marsh
  19. Geelong - Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves
  20. Fremantle - Oskar Taylor

There’s a couple more picks to make but only really interested in the Dogs pick and the couple left after that. Dees & GWS are the hardest to pick IMO. The Hawks pick is lazy tbf just grabbing the kid they tried to nab through NGA

Considering Regan has mentioned a focus on speed / endurance runners, I’d say if Oskar Taylor is still available, he’d be the selection for us ahead of Lindsay. But who knows where those players are rated on our board.

Hopefully ball use, defensive side/tackling, and more importantly their ability under pressure are also ticked off. Too many outside or running type players, are one way skiers or lack hardness. We do need more run and hurt factor, but also the mentality to hold up in finals like football and still use the ball well etc.

I know we talk about key defenders but I was looking at our small to medium defenders and we need to address this area of the ground. Dale is the only player of real quality. JJ is past his peak, Sellwood is unproven, Cleary is depth, Bramble is solid but inconsistent, Budarick is an important lockdown small, Coffield is not up to scratch and Jacques is unproven.

I think we need to draft some smalls with speed/endurance combo, who are competitive and clean by foot. Any draftees fit the bill?

Not disagreeing but calling Sellwood & Jaques unproven then suggesting we draft more unproven draftees? Haha

Oskar Taylor is the stand out for that type in the draft and he’s around our pick, but if the club rate Sellwood & Jaques then I actually think we are well stocked for unproven depth

Been reading Mike Sheehans AFL draft preview: midfielders

I like the sound of this Sam Allen. Perfect attributes for an Ollie Dempsey style winger. Recovering from ACL but could be a real find and would be back at some stage during pre season so would play at some level in his first year. Any idea where he was projecting before injury? Seems to have more traits of prototype winger than Barker to me, considering both are wingers who did ACL’s

Here is some footage:

Heres is the write up:
Sam Allen
State: Victoria Metro
State League Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Community Club: Glen Iris
Date of Birth: 13/01/2007
Height: 182cm

A well-balanced and smooth-moving wingman, Allen’s elite running capacity separates him from others. He runs a sub six-minute 2km time trial but also looks capable of playing on the inside as well. During pre-season testing, Allen showcased his athletic capacity and power by ranking No.1 nationally in the running vertical jump with a leap of 101cm. He started the year well with the Oakleigh Chargers, averaging 21.3 disposals (9.3 contested) across the first three rounds before suffering a season-ending ACL injury at training. Is now on the road to a full recovery. Allen is the grandson of former Melbourne best and fairest winner Ray Groom, who later became premier of Tasmania and is a member of the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.

Oskay Taylor should be high up on our list. I'm hoping he's the one we thought would be available a couple of spots lower than our previous pick.

Unfortunately at our club we can’t attract real quality through trade so we have to draft unproven potential. Use some draft capital on this area rather than repurposing a midfielder. Dash and disposal are crucial off half back. Bailey Dale is 29. We need a few to potentially fill that void. Not sure if Sellwood and Jacques make it or will be able to fill the dash component.

Is Oskar Taylor an elite kick?

https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/oskar-taylor/ Seems so

Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier from SA.

Doesn't get talked about enough (perhaps he's seen as "low production" compared to others?)
Fantastic kick, has a good 'burst' of speed. Maybe clubs will preference guys who get it 20+ times over a guy who gets it 15 times a game?

JJ was low production in 2009 too, before we rookied him.

He is definitely floating under the radar. Looks to have a real quality about him - classy.

I love this kid, though admittedly I’m based in Adelaide so the SA prospects are the only ones I’ve seen actual games of haha

Sounds like Ed Richards. IM SOLD!

That's interesting, in the Age they mention, "his kicking can improve, particularly at his position". I actually think that's a fair comment too. I certainly don't think his kicking is at the level of a Dale or Richards. I think he projects more as a JJ type, at least that's the impression I got from watching him live.

Agree his kicking is an area that needs improvement, I think he is better defensively then JJ though.

I usually take descriptions with a grain of salt anyway. Seen a few sources refer to NHH as a classy ball user, yet I rarely see him hit a target by foot. I’d go as far as labelling him the opposite…
