Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Good teams realise that you dont want someone who is only an inside mid when good players can play inside and outside. If you cant play outside as well these days, you are a seriously limited and a liability.
I agree, and I think Mini, Clarke & Massey are looking to build a team that can dominate the modern game. Those pieces are being put into place now, and it falls in line with Clarke mentioning that they have very specific types of targets that fall in line with their list strategy.

Waterman’s 2024 effectively put the writing on the wall for alllen.

Waterman went from a player who lost more contests than he won and didn’t really seem too bothered about second efforts and in seeing that his career may be at risk significantly improved his aerobic capacity whilst also improving his strength. He then started winning most of his contests and found the ability to make repeat leads and second and third efforts to a point where, in the absence or Allen, he was almost winning the Coleman in one of the worst teams in history.

Due to Allen’s lack of mobility, on return, waterman got pushed out to CHF and his effectiveness compared to earlier in the year declined

Were much better off having the combined threat of waterman’s strength and workrate closer to goals rather than Allen just pointing in the sky continuously asking for it to be bombed on his head only to be continuously spoiled by the opposing full back.

Oscar was one of my favourite players early days but his mobility, continual injuries and complete inability to protect himself in marking contests make him a proposition where the deal being offered to him was completely fair and reasonable. I’m sure the lions will make him look better than he did at the eagles but the fact is waterman is just a far more dangerous forward and Oscar isn’t currently mobile enough to play CHF effectively.

Dyson Sharp anyone?
Except from all accounts Sharp’s strengths are his contested marking and defensive physicality/tenacity.

These aren’t qualities associated with the ‘slow inside mid exclusive’ players he gets lumped in with like Mitchell, Hobbs and Phillips, who are far more one dimensional in comparison.

if he falls could be a good option for pick 13

Did WCE upgrade a rookie or will they?

Twomey mentioned only taking 4 picks in draft, which then i imagine youd be trading out of 41, 53 and anything not long after

Maric, Dewar, T.McCarthy?

I wouldve thought a bid on Koby Evans wpuldve occured so it surprises me a bit, but well done if youve managed to hide him well enough to the rookie draft

Edit: After reading seems Dewar needs to be done and deserves it aswell imo

If the people advising Allen (i.e. Colin Young and McDougall) had any brains they would give him some media guidance on what to say in interviews. And the advice would be accentuate the positive/the future and leave the negative/the past out of it. Talk about the great opportunity you have at Brisbane and how much you are looking forward to it. Don't whack the club you just left because a) nobody cares, b) you sound like a whinger/victim and c) you want to stay friends with the club because one day your playing days will be over and they might be able to help you with whatever you want to do after you retire.

If Eagles pick up Phillips and the Deliverance, I’d be feel like getting Dursma @1, CDT @2 and Farrow @13 would be pretty bloody good effort. I’d Probably skip CDT in preference of Sharp if Phillips doesn’t come onboard tho.
We’re not going to shift our draft plans based on whether we get WILL PHILLIPS or not

Will Phillips just got delisted by North Melbourne.

He's not going to move the needle.

I’m not saying he is. I’m saying that I think that’s a pretty strong combination and gives us a couple chances to get a serviceable inside midfielder for free plus CDT. Not sold on either Phillips or Dev becoming super stars but fire two shots we have a better chance of hitting once.

I don’t see why we wouldn’t ? Why target three inside midfielders in 1 go
We’re not going to pivot on our drafting targets with pick 1 or 2 based on which delisted players we pick up.

Talent will still be talent at that end of the draft. It may change who we select with pick 58 but that’s about it.

Pretty much this.

If we got Will Phillips for pick 58 I'd be onboard with that.

I wish we could convince some of these delisted players to stay on with the beagles. Every one of them has obviously felt shafted and joined another WAFL team.

I mean most employees dont really want to stick around for a demotion

probably getting the same coin playing for a competitive side

If a 26 yr old Oscar had any brains, he wouldn’t need to be told about the optics of being a whining sook in public immediately after committing highway robbery on the Brissie Lions.

Could have handled that interview better but he’s not shown particularly good judgement in recent times so it follows the same pattern - like being videoed doing a butt chug at schoolies a month before his draft
Whoa there hang on a minute, he what now? You mean he chugged beer with his arse? Doesn't he like the taste?

Must have been XXXX. Plenty of that in QLD, clearly didn't think that one through.

I don’t begrudge Allen looking for and ultimately accepting a better deal. Nor do I have an issue with him looking forward to a future at a premiership contender and of course they’re going to make him feel wanted - that’s what clubs do when they’re trying to recruit a player from their opposition

Bo Allen is already looking elsewhere? wtf?

But to bemoan that the club didn’t have his back is pretty lame. He’s been talking to Brisbane about a move for at least 12 months and he naively met an opposition coach in person mid season. Discretion would have been wise especially when his own form was poor at the time

He might also want to look in the mirror and reflect on what he gave the club by way of support in his final months. Was basically a ghost once injury ended his season leaving all the heavy lifting to Duggan. Don’t recall seeing him helping out in the coaches box on match day for example.

The culture comments were the most irritating for me - been there 5min & celebrating Brisbane's "better on-field & off-field culture". Great.

As club captain, what was his part to play in our culture?
