That's all well and good if it's adjudicated the same way between teams. But it's not.I write this with trepidation. Our continual angst with the umpires, particularly, regarding HTB should be directed at the rule rather than the umpires. If a player gains possession and is immediately tackled and the ball drops out, it’s play on. That happened on numerous occasionsin quick succession on Friday and we all got cranky because it looked like we should have gotten frees. On the other hand, if a player takes possession and starts running and gets run down, it’s a free every time (eg. Eliza’s tackle). The trickier one is when a player gets caught and can’t get the ball out, they are “liable” to be pinged. We apply so much incredible pressure, we feel like we should be rewarded for our exemplary tackling. However, “rewarding the tackle” isn’t in the rules, no matter how good it looks or how overwhelmed the opposition is.

The really disgraceful one was Eliza Shannon's non-mark that was paid HTB. Even if it's not a mark you just have to let that one goI write this with trepidation. Bullshit mate - everytime we drop it, it’s a free kickI write this with trepidation. They missed her today and they'll miss her next week.Zanker out next week FWIW, entered concussion protocol per Bastiani.
Having watched all the finals this weekend i’m happy to note that we are not the only team relatively hard done by. To me the inconsistency from poor/inexperienced umpires of a tricky direction from the league is the issue, not bias. All the stronger teams could have had more htb frees than they got, and the weaker teams also missed out on some. That's all well and good if it's adjudicated the same way between teams. But it's not.
That's why people criticise the umpiring

Why are they using inexperienced umps.
Use state league or even metro umpires - as they would be better
For me it's the biggest issue affecting the quality of AFLW.
It would be fair the say that we have the best female footballers playing. Yet we have an assortment of rookies, youngsters and hopefuls umpiring all disciplines - field, boundary and goal.
I'm not suggesting that the absolute elite of men's football umpiring keep going through AFLW. But why can't umpires on the low end of AFL lists get a go? Or the top notch VFL, SANFL, WAFL umpires. Hell, I'm involved in EFNL umpiring and the standard there is better.
This is being televised live all around the country and hardly a game goes by where the umpiring isn't above anything other than dreadful. The players deserve better.
Yeah, that was unfair. I always thought thought it was a given that in those situations, it’s always a ball-up.The really disgraceful one was Eliza Shannon's non-mark that was paid HTB. Even if it's not a mark you just have to let that one go
Maybe, so. But, it doesn’t make sense, does it? When you really think about it. If a member of our families became umpires, you know we’d completely change our tune. I agree that the best umpires are not used for AFLW. However, I disagree that there all “anti- North”. Anyway, I’m saying that after a game which we won. I’d be livid if we’d lost.Bullshit mate - everytime we drop it, it’s a free kick

Also, LOL:

The htb in the centre we didn’t get - think in the third quarter was pretty bad as well. The two worst decisions we copped were the Shannon non mark which resulted in her getting done HTB.
By the far the worst decision against us was the Sheirlaw spoil.
The free was paid against because it looked hard. Not because there was an infringement.
Our Prez with another foot in mouth comment
26k crammed into levels 1-2 would be brilliant.
Doubling the crowd from the 13k at Optus is a no brainer
Especially considering what the crowd is usually at our home gamesYeah this is odd, I really disagree with her on this one. The AFL would just do what they do for games with less fans, stack the stands opposite the camera, close level 3. 26K fans at the AFLW GF at Marvel would be bigger than a number of the smaller AFL games. Just a strange stance to take in my view
It's not strange at all. The play is to get a new 20k venue built asap (should be pretty obvious why the NMFC president wants that).
The case for such a venue is significantly undermined if AFLW grand finals are played at Marvel.
First of all, Marvel isn't being left empty at this time of year. The turf is being chewed up by other events, making it unavailable for footy.Yeah those thinking the women’s game isn’t pulling their weight - would really love that.
The AFL own marvel but they’d be happy to blow another billion so that marvel is empty
