Any chance we get Blake Oudshoorn Bennier? He’s got the best name after Wes Walley.
Well he is one of the better mids still on the board along with Riley Onley, Fred Rodriguez etc. Ollie Greeves is still there so he has to be the big slider with AFL clubs, probably goes to the Hawks given they tried hard to get him as an NGA early in the year.

If we look at gettting a mid/potential mid, this would be my preference order for tonight

J Pou
BOB
Onley
Greeves
LeRay
Holmes
Rodriguez
NRT

Also really like Rory Wright, though there’s only a bit of mid potential there, probably more a half back

Don’t see NHH as a potential mid

Have we worked out what position Cotton is yet?
I know there was some commentary that he and LeRay were good mates and also went head to head - could he be the next Basketball Background Midfielder ala Pendlebury?

That’s the big unknown, honestly

Really don’t know what his strengths and weaknesses currently are, except for being very athletic for his size

In all seriousness what has curtin done in the middle to date to suggest he will succeed there? So far mainly Nicks has just brainwashed him into guarding the space. If he can turn into a see ball get ball well that would be great he just doesn’t project like that.

Oh he projects that way, big time. To the point it's not out of the question that Dan ends up being one of the premier ball winners in the competition in 3-4 years.

That month on the wing where Curtin started putting up 20+ regularly does give hints to where Dan ends up as a footballer, seeing that was a flash of what the finished product looks like. Especially noting that inside midfield and wing is an easy transition (and its a gap that's lowering with every passing year as the "see ball, get ball" extractors with limited utility beyond that is become more niche), with a very similar skillset succeeding at both positions. We are also in an era which is desperately trying to find as much damage with ball in hand as possible from the inside midifeld slots.

Looking into the numbers from that run, a month where a player averages of 7.75 ground ball gets is absurdly high for a second year player who did not play considerable minutes as an inside mid (seeing there are a lot of systemic benefits an inside mid gets in this space compared to other positions). So, yeah, no issues whatsoever with expecting Curtin to be able to make that jump.

Surely we are on the phone to WCE or Carlton to trade up to one of their picks now, F2's are worthless in compromised drafts, so you can always get one back from someone.

46 and F2 for 28 or 29 and draft a mid

Has MM played in defence before?

Could he be the Sheezel / Hodge/ Sicily type distributor off HB with that great leg?

No idea, though as much as I was being facetious, it is a prospect that on paper looks like someone who could be a serious contributor off the half back line.

10 Victorians taken in the first 25 picks must be an all time low

I think it is the nature of all the academy players in the first round, it hasn't been the best crop of Victorian players but I think that combined with the development work put into academy players elevates them.

I remember back when we took McDonald as a father son pick, the AFL allowed him to train with us for his entire draft year and he looked like a superstar at junior level and in the U18 program but he was just a very average AFL footballer. I don't think the academy access will necessarily elevate them to be better players in their prime, but I think the active involvement with an AFL club fast tracks their early development when compared to kids that have very little to no access to AFL clubs.

I’m looking at WCE, our picks are probably a little more awkward to help Carlton match an Ison bid

Would someone smart let us old ****ers know how many picks have been swallowed up by the bids. Our 48 may be mid thirties now. Possibly?
Clubs are not going to do us any favours - or the likes of Hawthorn either

Luckily for clubs like GC and Brisbane - they have the full backing of the AFL to keep adding talent to their list

I know when we interviewed the Murray Bushrangers players during the year Ryder Corrigan was one that we looked at....Hamish special? Big bodied aggressive mid, none tougher in this draft, kicking a bit hit and miss but nobody gets an easy kick on him.

We definitely need that type of player

Though I’d probably prefer someone that’s show they can get more of the ball? Only 20-21 touches a game in the CTL
