No, our list is currently full. So no more picks for us this draft period.
Do Baker and JOD get upgraded tomorrow in the rookie draft or has it already been finalised?

Found it strange that the club said:

“The Dogs now have the option of participating in Friday’s Rookie Draft, which will begin at 3pm AEDT.”

What option is there if we have no list spots?

According to the Dogs article on the new trio. It says that we will participate in the rookie draft. I think most of us were under the impression that we had filled all of our list spots? And we only had three open list spots all up between the main and rookie draft?

No idea. Ask those who said we only had three list spots open. Only saw the article after I replied. So its a litte confusing at the moment.

I’m one of those people that was convinced we only had three spots, just strange wording from the club to imply that we even have the option to participate.

I guess we’ll find out tomorrow

Yeah I think it's a mistake by the media person. We've had six players move on, and six have come in.

OUT
Jones, Doc, JJ, Marra, Poulter, Scott

IN
Walker, Sellwood, Budarick, Carmichael, Emmett, Darcy

I know we have the two Cat B spots open still right ? Is there anyone worthwhile we could add to the list as a Cat B rookie over the next few weeks? Any Gaelic or ex basketballers etc (I know you can add them any time and not needed to be done only during the rookie draft tomorrow).

It appears to me to be a mistake. We finished the season with 43, which is 1 extra player on the list above the maximum allowance (due to the MSD after Weightman was placed on the inactive list).

We've since moved out 6 players (JJ, Jones, JUH, Duryea, Poulter, Scott) and brought in 5 (O'Donnell off the Cat B list, Budarick, Carmichael, Emmett, Darcy) meaning we have a full list of 42, with 2 open Cat B rookie spots.

I might be mistaken, but wasn't there some kind of "additional to your list" indigenous rookie spot that everyone is going to get? Or is that starting next year?

Interesting to see how Holmes develops, he certainly has the elite athleticism. Only, I've see a few games where it's a negative when he has the ball in his hands. Not sure it can be fixed given there's a composure and decision making issue there IMO.
Sounds like his brother, they've been able to improve his disposal over the years.

What I'm trying to get my head around is how on earth did Gold coast get so many good picks and pickup Trac at the same time, , how did north Melbourne lose their first round pick, and why did Port Adelaide have no picks?

North traded their first round pick for this year, last year with Richmond to get Whitlock

Port chose to just upgrade rookies (must be some new rule)

Gold Coast had a lot of picks for points to get all academy boys and then traded back in late to get Thomas

It's utter BS that gold coast absolutely r*ped the rest of the teams in the draft. Just daylight robbery what they got away with . And they also picked up Trac and Ugle Hagan

And how did Brisbane after finishing on top get pick 6? FN horse shit

Pretty much the afl is a money making machine and wants to compete with the nrl in the nrl states so they have to rig the competition in order to make sure the teams in those states are successful. Equalisation goes out the door

Disappointing to not have a rookie pick still a couple of developable players left. I’m assuming NHH will go early but Oskar Ainsworth would’ve been a nice get.
If he goes undrafted I’d like him to come play for Footscray.

Nobody would be complaining though if those two clubs were towards the bottom and were basket cases. It’s part of the game.

We got Jamarra despite finishing 7th in 2020 and got Darcy despite finishing 2nd in 2021. Don't see how it is any different for Brissy or Gold Coast really. Plus they can't keep them all, in a few years they'll start losing good players.

Thats two players. The Suns have had 8 first round picks in the past 3 years due to the academy.

If you use us as a baseline as a club who has had good luck with FSs and academies, we’ve had 4 FSs/ Academy 1st rounders ever in JUH, Darcy, Croft and Ayce Cordy. The Suns just drafted 4 in one night.

Absolutely. It's just terrible timing for the rest of the comp.

The amount of talent on that list is absolutely insane. It doesn't mean they are going to win anything though. The GWS sides of a few years ago were pretty similar but could never make that jump into an elite premiership team.
