Let's not pretend Ricciardo was particularly victimised or was the only one being targeted by Helmut Marko.

If your name isn't Sebastian Vettel or Max Verstappen you don't get much of a fair go in the Red Bull seat.
danny ric cruelled himself when he turned his back on red bull. downhill from there.

I doubt he would want to jeopardise his racing career too much, but how far do you reckon Yuki would be willing to go to interfere with Norris to help out his team.

It's very likely going to be his last race in F1. The tricky bit will be getting him on the same section of the track as Lando. He could risk a bunch of penalties by going a lap down and ignoring blue flags I guess.

I see this said a bit but wasn't he basically forced to look elsewhere?
Depends how you look at it. We saw how open RBR were to Danny returning after being chewed up and spat out in the McLaren.

'Forced' because he wanted to be the #1 driver and that wasn't going to happen with Max and Marko? Yeah. Would RBR (especially Horner) have been happy to keep him? Also yeah.

With hindsight we can probably guess that Danny wouldn't have been #1 but may have had more success in his career if he'd stayed.

Ricciardo with the benefit of hindsight made the wrong move to Renault - he would've had more success as the number two to Verstappen. No WDCs, sure, but would have been more in the mix for race wins and who knows, maybe a possible WDC tilt if Max didn't pan out.

He also made the wrong move from Renault to McLaren with again the benefit of hindsight, but at least he got a race win - for a couple of years, he was the only McLaren winner since the Hamilton/Button years.

Neither of them were forced, both teams looked like they were fine to have him on for another year or more.

I always felt he was trying to do a Hamilton and jump into the right team at the right time. History shows that leaving Renault was the right call though.

Not so sure about this tbh.

Contrary to what people like to assume (that he fell off after leaving RBR) Daniel was very quick in the Renault.

If he had've stayed there a few more years and continued outdriving the car the way he was, I reckon he could have quite easily found himself back at a top team in recent years (probably back at RBR).

The move to McLaren signalled the start of his inability to drive and for him to lose his reputation in the paddock as a top driver.

The thing is, Lando knows he only needs to podium. He doesn't need to push himself hard at the front. So he can afford to coast a little to minimize the risk of mistakes. The other two on the other hand, need to push hard to have any slight chance.
Also anyone in 4th is not going to challange norris in 3rd for position out of fear of taking out the wdc.

Even if Norris qualifies poorly somehow or bottles it and misses Q3.. everyone will just wave him through anyway.

Just announced 'Isack Hadjar will step up to Red Bull in 2026 to partner Max Verstappen, with Arvid Lindblad making his Formula 1 debut with Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson, the energy drinks firm's two teams have announced.'

MHandy guide for this weekend. (thanks Gasometer)

I never thought it was about the car at Renault, more the team management.

I swear the fans who engage in this kind of discourse just get their analysis off social media, same with the "haha RB is a demotion" nonsense. Do you realise how much of a pay-rise the main team seat will be in comparison to Racing Bulls? Not like motorsport careers last long. Also, this idea that the red bull seat is automatically a failure is nonsense.

Perez is treated as a failure for 2024 but he had multiple race wins in multiple years, plenty of podiums and a second place in the championship. Albon in his "best" year for Williams this year is still lower than his worst year for Red Bull in 2020 when he got dropped. Red Bull have shown that they can compete consistently and have never bottomed out like Mclaren did, even when Max wasnt dominating like he is now, post the vettel era

Add that to the fact that its the perfect time to come in with completely new regulations and a car that isnt already optimized for Max as it isnt years into a regulation cycle, this is the best possible chance for Isack.

mclaren reserve driving p1 instead of piastri (each regular) driver is to have 2p1s off, coincidence that piastri 2nd p1 off was left till the last race. hope the reserve driver does not crash piastres' car

norris already had his 2 p1s off
They would have planned that early in the season. Most of the test drivers run late in the season.

’Ward stepped into Norris’ car at the Mexico Grand Prix and the IndyCar driver will get his chance to further showcase his talent at F1 level when he takes over from Piastri.

The drivers choose when they want these themselves, no conspiracy as far as I know.

F1 drivers do not choose when practice drivers drive in P1 (Free Practice 1); this is a decision made by the team. F1 regulations require every team to use a rookie driver in at least two FP1 sessions per car throughout the season. This means that each team must arrange for four rookie practice sessions in total per year

not sure if this is F1 AI or not
