I did a little bit of fact checking on Keystone agony claim of 106 out of 156. Its 106 VFL/AFL games since the start of 2019.But but but he’s Big and can offer experience to the rest of the rehab group
not that insane, its the last spot on the list.Seems utterly insane to do that to me.
So its utterly insane.not that insane, its the last spot on the list.
he's a known prospect.
other options are likely untried youngsters and unlikely to give 11 games.
Midfield has lost Hobbs (18) , Shiel (14) (2 as defender), Setterfield (13)
so 45 games
Gained Fiorini + Sharp, if they both play every game then we have it covered.
adding Setterfield is like maintaining status quo.
Maybe we get more games from Caldwell this year (11 games 2025).
Also Setterfield in the VFL adds leadership and experience there.
Plus offield leading the injury rehab group.
Theres a lot of benefits for being competitive now getting setterfield. brads job for one.
But not getting Setterfield we could find the next D'Ambrosio or Voss or Jaidyn Hunter or Rhett Montgomerie.
It's a magic box, could be anything. Better option for those who want to finish low again and get a good draft pick, compared to Setterfield being the difference in beating North and Eagles and we miss out on a top 4 pick after Walker and Cochrane push into the top 4 and are already aligned to their clubs.

Yeah, it's known he's injury prone and likely to only be available when called upon 50% of the timenot that insane, its the last spot on the list.

Manipulating stats to suit a dumb point? Classic KAI did a little bit of fact checking on Keystone agony claim of 106 out of 156. Its 106 VFL/AFL games since the start of 2019.
Clever really, drops 2018 where he missed the entire season and 2017 where he only played 9.
So over the course of his entire career he's played 115 out of 202 which is 57%. But lets be super generous given his history and say over his 9 year career 15 of those games he's either been injured and left the field or he's been returning from injury and finding fitness/form.
That leaves him 100 games where hes been a fully fit contributing member out of 202 or 49%.
That means, based on his career, we're handing another year to a 28 year old in the hope he gives us 11 games.
Seems utterly insane to do that to me.
What you're advocating for is tanking. You can't have your youth just losing every week. They just learn to be losers, breaks their bond and it just makes them dislike the place. That's how you end up like Norf for 6+ years (and before bring up the convenient "oh but norf drafted just mids" copium, they drafted best available which is what you'd do if you had such a hand). This notion that years and years of losing to aquire top picks = great team is a myth. The teams that have gone down the path of tanking and haven't tasted consistent success far outweighs the teams that have.
The list balance has fundamentally changed with the players we’ve brought in and who got injured. Is setters okay depth, sure but it’s not an area of need anymore and we should be looking to address the need which is outside quality and speed.Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. Setters played some really good footy for us last year - the injuries are super frustrating. If he was retained on the list not many would have raised an eye brow. More would have defended it.
So what’s changed? He’s now off the list and we have the potential of some shiny new toys to be added.
My opinion is, Setterfield is good enough to not only be on a list but be a top 30 player on most lists but injuries have ruined his career. Given our 2025 injury list and the already growing list in the off season. It’s time to move on.

I think I'm advocating for finding the next Durham, Nic Martin, Massimo invite a few to training, if he's not there, then just sign Setters. I'm probably after a 19-22 year old, on a state league list. So can come in and put selection pressure on immediately as will only be a 12 month contract. What you're advocating for is tanking. I wouldn't say not picking up Setterfield as a highly injury prone backup incase of injury = tanking.

There is a tonne of scenarios where both play togetherI think the issue is, he will have a delayed start.
By then Sharp may be embedded into the team and Setterfield will only be playing VFL or cover when Sharp needs a rest, or to cover injuries. But those opportunities could be given to others like Robey etc.
That makes the most sense. Take the longer term view, try to find more talent to add to the list.I think I'm advocating for finding the next Durham, Nic Martin, Massimo invite a few to training, if he's not there, then just sign Setters. THis is starting to become my concern with Rids too, such an integral part of the backline that it really destabilises us when he inevitably goes down. Its good to see we are drafting some potential depth for his role though!Setterfeild talent wise absolutely deserves to be on a list. He would likely be in our best 22 too. Unfortunately he alongside far too many of our more senior players are injury prone.
So this is a double edged sword, where he usually plays when fit but also isn’t likely to be a main stay when we are a good side.
Our midfield can’t get cohesion if he is forever coming in and out, and we should be looking to get younger guys playing that role in the senior team.
It’s Rosa’s job to put the list direction together, we were in a similar position last season and he opted to sign on setterfield again. His form was good but again got injured and apparently is along way off being fully fit as I post.
If Setters is available and in form Scott will pick him, and it’s his prerogative to do so, but I’d rather we just eliminate the option for setterfield to play by removing him entirely. It won’t be Scott’s fault setters might get games over younger players it will be Rosas.

Without thinking of the new player coming in for Martin who do we think is on borrowed time this season.
Gresham, Guelfi and Cox are in last chance saloon.
Merrett, Ridley, Langford, Jones and Wright as potential older guys to be moved on or replaced?
McMahon, Edwards, El-Hawli, Day-Wicks as rookie listed might be in trouble?
All 5 are contracted for 27 in that groupThink Jones was a 2-year deal.
Its only 106/156 if you drop 2 seasons, that's a fact.Faible suggested to include in discussion, so i did
I also made it clear pre ACL hes play 106/156 games, thats a fact
Its hard to play many games early as a +190cm mid at a top 4 club GWS and then the next year an ACL
Pre that 106/156 is alot better than people would think. There arent many who play 90%+ these days, theyre rarer than common
