I hope this result puts the Lyon vs B Scott argument to bed. Brad wants a team of competitors whereas imo Ross has become too relaxed and complacent and it’s rubbing off on their players.

About as close as we can get to not winning in order to get the best possible draft pick and being happy with how we went.
Agree but **** me, should've won that game.
PS. Apart from Hirdy at pick 759 whens 1 or 2 positions in the draft helped us.

Imagine a draft where we have pick 4,5 and 6.

Was at the game, third level, was keenly watching how we setup behind the ball:

We were so organised and well structured tonight. I don’t know wtf was going on, but it looked like they knew what the game plan was. The way they used the width of the ground was really clean and organised. Luol in particular held his width really well, and was a constant threat to get out the back. Redman was marshalling them all. Lots to like.

Has a really good step on him for a guy his size. But also lacks any kind of core strength despite his frame. He doesn't really make any sense
You have watched Langford and Laverde play haven't you, no football sense at all.

Blakiston is such an unusual player. Don't know what to make of him. So casual and does everything at the last possible second.
He is an enigma. Personally I thought it was the best game he has played for the club but every play feels like a roll of the dice. He really backs himself though. I really love his swagger and he even puffs his chest out literally. The younger ones seem to feed off his energy and confidence.

No complaints from me. Played until the very end with a makeshift and young side, sealed 15th and ensured Melbourne doesn't finish above St Kilda.

Now we can smash Carlton next week without jeopardising our draft picks.
Had no idea of the Tetris-like gravity of this. What a crazy life!

Watched on tv, thought it was our best 4 quarter effort for the year, stkilda didn't win that game.
Hope you had a great night.

What makes Redman try like that tonight? It was a choice, he chose to play really good. It's confusing.

Much better pressure in the forward half might have been a big part of that, defenders not being hung out to dry meaning they can get more aggressive.

I would say taking over McGrath’s role gave him a lot more freedom.

And bizarrely McGrath has looked good in the middle although we probably can't use him full time due to his size when the rest return.

But has shown he can do it better than earlier in his career.

I hope no fan was “happy” with that loss. Pick 3, 4 or 5. Who cares. You build culture by trying to win. You don’t hang your hat on “oh we tried hard but we get a better draft pick.

That said. We did try hard and I was pleasd with the performance. I expect Redman, McGrath and Durham to play like that much more consistently than they have this season

Good signs from some kids. McMahon finds the goals. Did everything but win really.

I doubt no one was really happy. It is more a running joke as far as the draft picks go.

Maybe. I hate it though. No team has built a premiership winning team by relying on stockpiling high draft picks

Norf are still battling away and trying to shed their loser mentality

I could see him playing a role in the rotation as long as Durham is in with him.

I agree that no one should be "happy" but if you're going to lose that's the sort of hard fought performance you'd rather it be from.

However I will say when you're as depleted as we've become, especially when we were already one of the least experienced selected sides before the injuries and you're debuting 15 players, I think a unique scenario emerges where our backs were against the wall/were no chance from the start through no real control of our own and thus we're at a point where we're trying to take the most out of it that we can going forward.

So that includes being consoled by good efforts in losses, if the cards that are outside of our control were to continue to fall that way, with one eye to a future in which we'll actually have more control.

Not solely on high draft picks but Geelong / Hawthorn / Richmond / Collingwood / Melbourne all won flags off the back of good top end picks and then savvy recruiting.
You can build the culture by drafting competitive players.
What the fans think doesn’t matter anyway.
As long as the players are turning up and having a dead set go is all that matters.

Sorry. I was “happy” too. I meant happy in the context of getting a better draft pick.
