Sounds like still ongoing issues with this job split between Kane and Swann. But I'm not sure its just Kane thats poor at the job, the article seems to be hinting at Dillon (and the board) still being part of the problem

Generally what happens when someone who doesn't know what they're doing gets schooled by someone who is.

Can just about guarantee that Kane will be quietly moved on sometime next season, with deliberate efforts made to reduce the fanfare.

Geez, are Dillon and goyder the most incompetent duo to ever run the game, they can't do anything right. Dillon isn't respected, nice bloke but clearly can't even keep his staff in line now, just compounds his poor decision making and pathetic media presence.
Yes

Yeah I'm critical of Kane as someone who was promoted too fast to a role over their head. But you are right in that Dillon and Goyder are the real problem. Kane was unknowingly set up to fail by her boss who is potentially even more incompetent

LOTS of companies are under pressure to promote women to senior management, when the experienced ones don't make the cut they just pick someone who is young and "promising" and send her to the top
Said pressure shouldn't even exist, for a myriad of reasons. I'm not against women in the workplace or women being in management positions or whatever at all, for those who may be reading my comments. That isn't what this is about.

But it really makes you wonder why a more experienced person - regardless of whether it's a man or a woman - doesn't make the cut in favour of someone who really shouldn't even be anywhere near AFL management in the first place really makes you wonder.

Welcome to the 21st century in the western world.

This happened at my company, it doesn't help the workplace culture either, all the gossiping about how pathetic one of the management team are and 'how did she get the job'.

Many lawyers do not make good managers. They often have an over inflated ability of their own intelligence and management ability despite having no training or expertise in the area.I know this after 50 years legal practice.Obviously there are exceptions but the AFL seems a little inundated with the legal fraternity.

I feel like they're a bit risk averse in these leadership positions too. As Eddie McGuire says, if you listen to the lawyers on everything you'd get absolutely nothing done.

Could've all been avoided if they had given B Gale the job like they should have....

Goyder didn't like him though, so we ended up with Dillon who he also wasn't that fond of, but anything to stop Gale getting the gig.

Exactly like he has done with his replacement as commission chair, he would do anything to ensure Jeff Browne didn't get the gig (the favourite with the clubs and the best cv), so we end up with another vanilla candidate in Craig Drummond.

Basically the pathetic leadership at the afl is down to one man's pettiness and arrogance.

Oh I reckon there's plenty of pettiness and arrogance in the AFL to go around.

They really do look like they need a good clearing out of deadwood, but then nothing much would be left.

Amen to that
My experience echoes yours re lawyers as managers

A Law degree is the modern version of the generalist Arts Degree of earlier days. There are far more Law graduates than practicing lawyers, Kane has probably spent far more time in football administration than in the practice of law. She's no dill, Honours Degrees in Law are hard earned.
