I definitely agree that the Dawson, Berry, Soligo, Peatling, Laird combo won’t get it done.

However, Dawson, Rankine, Curtin, Rachele, Draper, and two of Soligo/Berry/Peatling might be.

Id still be looking at who is available through trade/free agency, but if there’s nothing available I think the above can work.
Berry doesn’t have it mate

OP and at risk of missing the season
Just need to keep him out of action & get him right... as we don't want to turn this into another Brouch situation.

and playing Murphy as a midfielder in SANFL team.....

Needed him to be getting bucketloads of possessions so they could pick him for a forward spot as soon as opportunity presented. If he was in the SNAFL as a forward getting 12 touches a week, they’d have a hard time explaining why he got the call up. They’re idiots, but they’re not stupid.

This is where "there's always next year" logic continues to fail

It's all good guys, no need to give Draper valuable AFL experience in his first year, he can learn his trade in the SANFL or as the sub and then he'll be right to go for starting his AFL career proper in year 2

Except things can happen. Never a good idea to pass up a golden opportunity. If he misses a large chunk of the year through injury he won't reach 50 full games of AFL until 2029 at the earliest

What year was that?

The year we went in top of the ladder then had the worst finals campaign of all time, but didn't improve the list relative to competition and kept the coaching staff in place

What’s with the negative comments circulating about Draper?
We can be so negative at times as a club.
I’ve never been so excited for a recruit, he definitely will need some time. I can see the disappointment as some players shone in their first year eg Langford, Murphy etc.
What about Dan Curtin? People were saying he was a waste last year…but look how he’s turned out now

Sid will be a jet in time and I suspect he plays from round 1 next year.

I bet you a thousand dollars he doesn’t.

Oh was that a premiership window? I must have missed it

But we got those extra looks at Murphy and Smith, so can’t say the opportunity was totally wasted.

Dees ppl have mixed feelings about him too

I don’t have mixed feelings about him, he’s a high end operator in his field. But reality is there’s numerous at the same level and he was never any kind of secret weapon that would fix selection issues like playing injured players. Reality is there are very few exceptions and when there is, it’s the low end, like Burton.

Playing through injury only works for some players. For others it would just make it worse.

Nothing changed with respect to playing through injury. And that wasn’t what he said anyway. What he said was that he built up resilience by making players continue to train with intensity, that way they find new levels they weren’t aware they had. It’s meaningless if you do what our coaches do, which is allow certain players to be nursed through the week, pass a weak fitness test and ask them if they think they’re good to go.

Burgess came and went, our philosophy didn’t shift a millimetre.
