Arsenal get away with it with their set pieces. I’m sure there’d have been very similar frustrating results for them if we pegged the set piece goals back to a normal level.
The set pieces are how we deal with a low block.

Instead of sitting on our hands and complaining about other teams doing it, we've found a way to counter it.

Why does it matter what they’re worth? They’re all good enough to be playing PL football.

Having 11 bodies in the way would be a tough ask for prime Barcelona, let alone a rotated Chelsea side.

It’s just ridiculously negative at home. Starting in a 532, parking everyone centrally then playing long balls to the two strikers.
They won, so it worked.

Villa up to third. Been flying under the radar after a slow start but now have 8 wins in their last 9 game. Very impressive.

Sunderland at least try to play. Which I respect big time from a newly promoted side. Can’t say the same for Leeds. Scored an early set piece then dropped anchor and clogged the middle
Are you serious? We had more shots. XG was 2.62 v 1.11 - you’re taking the piss.

Used the same formation second half against City and outscored them 2-1 for the half.

Well played Leeds. Chelsea were there for the taking after expending so much emotional and physical energy against Arsenal a few days ago. Leeds put them to the sword. Big result for them.

Also for Sunderland, another big performance by them especially at Anfield. Xhaka immense again. Hopefully he can do that again in a few days time against City.

The matches are coming in thick and fast now, the schedule is very taxing for the players and clubs. Arsenal navigating this period well so far, just need to keep it going. Nice to get back to clean sheet winning ways, Merino yet again keeps contributing. Need to keep this going.

And my issue is needing this in the first place.

Building a squad specifically to break down low blocks is anti football, and it’s become worse with the improved fitness of elite athletes.

The “better team” in the league doesn’t always have to be the most talented, just the best side set up to deal with the bottom half teams negative tactics consistently, and I find that ridiculous as a concept.

There’s a reason why cup games are more exciting.

Shots mean very little in a game like this. You’re always going to have more opportunities after an early lead because Chelsea need to force the issue.

Doesn’t change the fact you went into a game at home looking for a draw from the first minute.

Winning 3-1 when you're looking for a draw is quite the achievement

Of course it worked. When an opponent sets up like that you’re basically resigned to a 1-0 win from some individual brilliance or hoping for an early goal to open the game up.

If neither of those happen it doesn’t really matter who you are.

People complain that money has ruined the PL but I think the introduction of these tactics has, and a lot of the English are proud of it. Not many other leagues in the world play like this.

Really weird hill to die on.

Low blocks are not a new thing and are used all around the world.

And this is not the first time this season you've carried on about the other team 'playing for a draw' when they've been more attacking than you.

Jose Mourinho won multiple titles in multiple countries by sitting deep and hitting teams on the counter. As did Leicester City.

Go watch the Bundesliga or Serie A and teams actually have a crack far more regularly.

Jose was also universally hated for the way he won those titles in the mid 2000s so not sure that’s a great example.

I'm sure Chelsea fans didn't have an issue with it.

You got outplayed, it happens. Especially this time of year after 2 big fixtures in a week.

Maybe if Caicedo didn't lose his head in a big fixture he could've helped stop Leeds on the counter today.

Incorrect. Invariably when Liverpool have really struggled the past 8 seasons, Van Dijk has been underwhelming (2 seasons) or missing (1 season). The other 5 he's been excellent.
Don't bother

Talking about the Chelsea Leeds game lmao.

Can’t believe teams still come out like that at home.

I get wanting a result against a better side but you’ve walked out there with a clear plan to not play any football unless the opposition makes a mistake.
lol what game were you watching?

I don't think you watched the game. We created four good chances in the first 5 mins before the first goal. Match reports are saying e dominated first half. Even after half hour it was 6 shots to 1. What an odd take

The continued revisionism here is gold. I recall a chorus of Chelsea fans in that era (many of which only emerged after Roman bought the club) who couldn’t give a shit about any references to anti football etc from other clubs. Winners are grinners etc.

Love coming up against sides who have no interest in playing football. Score an early goal then stack numbers in the middle and counter. As well as faking injuries 25 minutes in

Ridiculously negative tactics, you’re a premier league side playing at home ffs

Scored two goals from pressing all the way up to your keeper, kind of ridiculous posting tbh.

Don't think I've ever seen old mate give credit to the opposition
