I thought US Presidents traditionally delivered pardons at the end of their term?
Donald Trump appears to be selling pardons from the beginning of his term.

And worse still there have basically been no ramifications for anyone.

Boris did it in the UK, Morrison did it in Australia and Trump is doing it in the USA.

It started slowly with politicisation of the public service, then it was normalising lying as an everyday occurrence and to be expected.

Now it's just "anything which isn't nailed down is fair-game".

One day soon, the oligarchs will test the Australian constitution in ways it hasn't yet been tested. I doubt the 125 year old document will stand up to a full-blown AI assault.

Just imagine how long he will spend choosing the floor tiles. Renovations to the Lincoln bathroom included days selecting marble and gold fixtures.

Minimal conceptual skills, let alone the ability to think strategically. The hands-on, minutiae-obsessed management style that Trump relied on for decades in the business world has not transferred well to the White House. ‘Gut feel’ doesn’t get you far on the racecourse, less so in management.

What Trump has done with the pardon policy and tradition has nothing to do with how past POTUSs have done it. Like everything else, something that was considered, nuanced, sober, and serious has been turned into garish, self-enriching, and corrupt.
