Silvagni has had two separate counsel teams in this case – each led by distinguished and well-credentialled Kings Counsel. One team dealt with the criminal case, one dealt with the suppression order fight. That’s not something the average punter could afford.

You might think this is an unusual or unprecedented case. Unfortunately, not in Victoria. Suppression orders are so common in that state that this year there are more suppression orders made there than in all the other states combined.
Let that sink in – there are more suppression orders in Victoria than the rest of the country combined.

Mental harm is the new battle ground in the fight against suppression orders and a big reason for the large number of suppression orders made in Victoria. Defendants visit a psychiatrist and tell them some “facts” about their mental wellbeing. The psychiatrist isn’t required to test their patient’s “facts”. They accept them.
Then the “facts” appear in the psychiatrist’s report submitted to the court and effectively become unchallenged evidence.
It’s impossible for the media to test that “evidence” and the judge usually proceeds on the basis it’s all true, even though the defendant was never cross-examined on it.

Anyone with a bit of money would hire a good lawyer and do their best to keep it out of the news for as long as possible. That’s not a footy thing.

The person I feel most sorry for is the young woman who was violated, and the young bloke probably thought he was above the law based on his surname, nothing excuses that sort of behaviour in my eyes.

I remember growing up in the 80s thinking how glamourous the Silvagni family was.
Absolute ROCK STAR football player Stevie was, one of the greatest full backs of all time but he'd go forward and help himself to a big fat bag of sausage regularly too. One of the best football players of his era and bags himself the Queen of WAGS before WAGS was even a thing, Ms. Jo "Price Is Right" Bailey, one of the most beautiful women afternoon television had to offer.

Now you think of the name "Silvagni" and it's the garbage list manager who demolished the Carlton football club with shit trades, his spud football playing son and now Tommy Silvagni incarcerated for sexual assault. Epic fall of the house Silvagni.

Have no issue with the family standing by Tom. I personally hope SOS and JSOS dont cop it (even though they definately will). Tom on the otherhand hopefully gets whats coming to him.
