The problem with that is he went in shortly before and said your boyfriend’s coming back in a minute. So he was there at the time and the boyfriend wasn’t coming back and never told him he was. That is very hard to explain hence the receipt.

Then you have the recorded phone call the girl made, the testimony of the ex-friend saying Tommy Silvagni asked me to lie to the woman and say I went up to the room, the fabricated Uber.

I believe in Victoria you need a unanimous verdict, all 12 jurors found that the girls testimony was believable and Tommy Silvagni's story was horseshit. And he had the BEST lawyers money could buy, Kings Council even.

Interesting, with the benefit of hindsight I agree. If he wanted to plead not guilty and his gf was willing to give an ablibi. Then the best course was right from the start claim he knew nothing and was with his gf the whole time. Good luck selling that to most gf’s though. Most would probably leave and become a witness for their friend who was r*ped.

Also just because she has stood by him doesn’t mean she would be willing to lie in a police interview and stand up in court and lie for him.

The decision made was that evidence did not establish guilt to the requisite standard of proof. Not that Pell was "innocent".

It is related because people are very selective of which verdicts they choose to believe in & are criticising SOS for still defending his son when there are appeals processes still to go through & if it got to it the High Court trump's Vic's Judicial system every time.

Burden of proof seems low for a conviction nowadays. I wonder if it will be appealed and overturned.

Theres enough proof as he doctored an uber receipt. Noone in their right mind does that unless theyre hiding something thats the burden of proof

I lived in a country town in Vic where the head detective was a dad of kids we went to school and played footy with. He was about a 30 year force veteran, salt of the earth, nicest, straight down the line guy you’ll ever meet. An alleged r*pe occurred and while investigating he saw video evidence the perps were his son and nephew. As a detective he went to the girls house to interview her and tried to convince her to drop the charges and that there was no way a conviction could be made. It’s the most diabolical situation you could ever imagine.

People can do incredible, unthinkable things when their family are involved that are completely against their character. I would love to think I would act morally, but can’t possibly understand how I would react if put in this situation, so I don’t think it’s fair for me to hang SOS for his actions. The criminal here is his son - his family, friends the victim and her family / friends and the wider community are collateral damage from his heinous actions.

The max term is 25 years. I can tell you don't see rape as serious however.

The reality is sentencing is mostly very lenient these days so I dont blame anyone thinking he will only get 3 or 4 years they are just going off past decisions and statistics.
