Witts is 34 this year, we should not be offering anyone that old multi year deals.

The game is moving past the lumbering dinosaur ruck as well towards more mobile ones (same reason ROB is in the SANFL for the Crows). Witts just looked good yesterday because he was up against Flynn, it's a low bar to clear.
Witts is with a team challenging for a flag, he's not moving across the country for a one, or heavily conditional two year contract.

We need to find someone else as a stop gap if that's what we are looking for.

Another note. The new centre square rules for ruckman may also protect young rucks from the worst of the battering, so playing Archer/CDT for longer periods there might not be the risk it used to be.

I'd almost be tempted to go Bailey Williams at 60% ruck, 20% CDT, 20% Archer. Bailey at least theoretically can play forward and not be a disaster like Flynn.

If GCS told him to move on, as they want to play Moyle who is currently 24 and has been dominating VFL for a while now, then Witts might consider a cross country move if he still wants to play

Exactly this, if Witts stays then surely Moyle doesn’t want to be a reserve for another year.

GC will pay him to be a back up. He'd take that over moving for 12 months. The idea he's uprooting his life, or that GC won't want him in some capacity when they are on the flag hunt is silly.

Real chance that Sanders isn't an upgrade on Dev. Certainly not one worth paying for.

I don't know what has happened, but Dev has exploded, even from the preseason game i wasn't impressed in the first half, but from half time in that game he's turned it around completely.
Obviously 1 game from Dev, but well done to him for performing the role he was brought in for.

I specifically watched Sanders over the weekend to see what he offers and must say there is a player in there but playing in a WB stacked midfield team doesn't really show his ideal traits for which he is the Dev type.

Hard to get a read on Sanders, but I would agree that he seems to be a not much upside player as I thought and unless he puts a couple of WOW games together he is a B grade mid.

Please no. We don't need to obliterate our draft capital to bring in ANOTHER player at a position where we have the most depth. The main focus now should be mids/wingers/ball users/MIDS WHO CAN TRACK BACK/Key defender

Have you watched Walter play?

Not really a traditional KPF in the sense of the word. Highly agile, puts on a heap of pressure, gets up the ground, etc.

Kick Flynn out and have CDT/A.Reid share ruck duties, then have a 3 tall fwd line of Shanahan, Waterman and Walter and you have 3 talls who are strong int he contest, actually have forward craft and apply pressure. One of CDT/Reid rest down there whilst one of those 3 is on the bench and you don't lose anything. Plus long term forward planning for Waterman, as you never know when the opportunity to get a high end KPP, who actually wants to come to your club, will ever pop up again.

I agree we need more midfield talent but we also don't know what else is in the works, how much Walter would cost, etc.

Lol, he ended pretty bloody well. Great game from him.

The 50 was dumb, but was very good after that.
Once he settled he looked very good, could be a Jack Crisp type of player for us down the track

Not the only one to give away a 50 this round, seemed to happen a lot

Interesting article with more rumours surrounding Zane Duursma moving from North Melbourne to Essendon in the West. Personally, I think there a lot more upside to Norf.

The context with eagles lens applied is this would be terrible news and likely mean that Willem requests a trade home to Essendon. Essendon couldn't offer anything worthy enough to get the trade done. Top 5 pick plus Robey, otherwise EAD.

But it does make me think when we should expect contract extensions for WD, CDT and JL and how long for? I would like before Season 2027 kick off, extensions start coming through

Quick throwaway of how long for:
Willem Duursma sign until 2032 (Four-year extension)
Josh Lindsay sign until 2032 (Four-year extension)
CDT sign until 2034 (Six-year extension)

How those three fit with the talk happening with Harley Reid, Bo Allen, Hamish Davis, Tom McCarthy, Reuben Ginbey, Elijah Hewett, Brady Hough and Jobe Shanahan. Good luck to Clarkey.

It would be good to see their names with the contract end date in the list profile their position, and age amongst the group

We wouldn’t be taking a draft capital hit. There’s a good chance he plays fewer than 10 games - out of contract and unable to get a game.

We’ll probably finish 18th and can threaten PSD.

Early second or F-off. If Rogers is included, then a late first will be needed plus something else to sweeten the deal.

Just my two cents, though, and probably way off since we’re notoriously the nice guy so probably give them Pick 1 for Walters.

Why would Willem want to go to Essendon? He's got a bunch of mates at WCE already. Not sure the pull to go home to play in a club with an arguably worse future than ours is particularly big.

The rumours around Zane are more due to his lack of gametime, injuries and positional struggles, as well as Norf being shit.

If he gets consistent gametime, settled in a position, a good run with injury and North actually start winning, then I'm not sure Essendon would be nearly as appealing as last year.

When was the last time we underpaid / got a bargain at the trade table.

Even if Walter has a quiet year, he is still worth a pick in the teens in a trade.

We won't have a pick in this range, so the only way to get it would be to split our first pick. This makes it harder to get the elite talent in other positions (mid, kpd, sf) we desperately need.

If the AFL give us another PP or if Walter is happy to play CHB it makes more sense.

AFAIK Rogers is a Queenslander with no links to WA.

Can understand why we would be interested, but can't see why he would come to WA. If he wants more game time he will get offers from other East Coast clubs.

Our 1st pick this year is obviously off limits because it will likely be pick 1.

We could use our F1, but we'd want more coming back, unless Walter shows a fair bit more.

It's possible if we don't trade our 2027 R1, Sydney will try and get it for Warner, so maybe we should off load it this year

I 100% agree with your value on the players.

Early 2nd with Rogers included would be a really good get.
Our 1st pick in 2026 & 27 need to be for the best mids, can't put off not drafting elite mids any longer.

But getting a couple of high quality KPD's is next in line, ours are serviceable at best and short term/3 year gap players.
Young looked decent yesterday and Edwards is B grade and if we trade/draft any quality KPD's they will be surpassed IMO.

ZZ top is a priority NOW and draft another.

Our other assets/draft picks should be on the table for anyone who is gettable and improves our list.

S Marshall from BRI is another who looks gettable with Z Bailey most likely signing long term this year at BRI, probably pushed out?

J Sweet at PA is OOC in 2026, Visentini preferred, and he is a far better tap ruckman than any of our Rucks, 3 year deal and would be a great stop gap until we are ready to unleash CDT/A Reid.

The stand rule is shit, Bo was 10m wide of the man on the mark but the man on the mark was told to stand metres away from the actual mark, still dumb but I can see how he got confused.

Nah, he was just walking at the player with the ball.

Still, not even the dumbest mistake of the round. That belongs to Toby Greene trying to Shepherd English out of a ruck contest.

Short answer, he will have two brothers at the bombers, Xavier and Zane.

**Note; Only in the context Essendon gets a deal done with Norf this year.

Doesn't really mean much, IMO, even if Zane went there.

Not all that common for players to move clubs simply to play with their brother these days. Elijah Hollands did, but supposedly it was known from GC that he'd likely request a trade before they even drafted him, and Ollie Henry the other, but he's trash anyway.

The first almost 2 rounds have shown me 1 real thing the rule changes have done. The body to body grinder type ruckmen are done. Briggs, Flynn etc.

The club has it's 2 ruck solution already. It's Reid and CDT and it just needs a couple of seasons to develop and Bailey Williams when fit may well be a very good option until then or to stay on allowing Reid or CDT to become a KPD depending on if you want a FB or CHB.

Means on top of more quality mids the club desperately needs another high quality developing KPF and another quality developing KPD.

I personally rate Brock quite highly, his speed and ball use is worth persisting with imo.

Let's be clear we need A Grade mids and Key Defenders. That's it. They're the two positions we need.

Ollie Henry was the biggest load of BS. Cited home sickness to move from living in Melbourne to Geelong.
