Debt and Deficit - Coalition Budget Emergency

It's odd that all over these boards nasty right wing governments all over the world seem to find supporters, and yet our own nasty right wing government seems bereft of friends.

Right wing? Meh, done stuff all to cut spending. Spineless wonder.

Appealed to the sort of delusional whiner that reads the Guardian and look where that got him. Should have learned from Gillard sucking up the Greens.

Not hard to work out that the sort of people who are in favour of people smuggling and their clients are a tiny % of the population. Best utterly ignore them.

“An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”

If the savings were invested in productive public infrastructure then that wouldn't be so bad

Doesn't matter which stripe you wear, or your so-called 'wing'

Australia's most needlessly wasteful spending took place under the John Howard-led Coalition government rather than under the Whitlam, Rudd or Gillard Labor governments, an international study has found.

The only thing which distinguishes our coalition in government is its laziness covered over by its addiction to the wedge and appalling support by the Murdoch propaganda machine

Amazingly many think they are not lazy and work harder. They only work harder filling in expenses claims

Truly amazing how dense some skilled professionals are in their support of political parties like football teams.

Dear oh dear. Simply pathetic by Fairfax to report such crap

"The Whitlam Labor government of 1972 to 1975 also escapes censure."

Whitlam increased spending by over 40% in one year.

IMF has become a hotbed of Keynesian economics and noone capable changing a lightbulb believes in the nonsense sprouted by the Anti Semitic nonce.

So the Howard government was a bastion of conservative fiscal policy in your opinion?

They ran a structural surplus until the last year and paid off net debt.

Name a government post 1970 who has done that?

Sure he should have slashed spending but lets not be so utterly dishonest as to pretend he wasn't far better than Rudd/ Gillard, Fraser and Whitlam.

As for Wayne "I make Fev look like Einstein" Swan, where to even start?

What’s Murdoch’s skills?

Relieving Disney of tens of billions

Greatest businessman Australia has ever produced.

lol blame Murdoch. Pathetic.

What a genius, orchestrating the nation's biggest boom times to enable him to spend like a drunken sailor without going into debt

Jack, where iron ore prices higher under Howard or ALP govt after him? Swan who was utterly igorant of the real world (as is Treasury) extrapolated very high iron ore prices to infinity. Of course anyone with a clue knew that and knew the mining tax was a joke and wouldnt raise any money.

As for orchestrating a boom. Right, so Howard convinced personally the Chinese to pay stupid prices for iron ore? Yep. Sounds rational.

This stuff isnt rocket science, amazing that so many have so little clue.

The World's Best Treasurer has had to redo his budget because the one he did six months ago has turned out to be wrong. We told him at the time it would be, and so it was, but the new one looks worse - a shocker.

Will government revenues grow by 10 per cent between 2010-11 and 2012-13 or by 33 per cent, as forecast in yesterday's MYEFO? Absolutely no-one knows, least of all the bozos running Treasury's macroeconomic models downstairs in Langton Crescent. But does 33 per cent revenue growth feel right, given everything we know about the world at the moment? Nah, it feels ridiculous

Yet people fought so hard for it not to be brought in?? Its the same line the banks are using now. ''I dont know why they bother its not going to bring in much'' then the look over thereism starts

The mining tax was a joke because they targeted one area. They should have done an umbrella tax. Banks, Miners and Offshores

Ah yes, Schrodinger's mining tax that simultaneously wouldn't raise any money but would also destroy the Australian mining industry.

I guess Norway's sovereign fund must also be a myth.

You've misinterpreted what I was saying. Of course he didn't orchestrate, he was just ******* lucky that he was PM at a time when factors completely outside his control meant he could spend what he wanted and remain in surplus. He would have shat himself if he had been forced to deal with what Rudd and Swan had to deal with.

This seemed a lot more urgent crisis to conservatives in 2010-2015 than it is now.

Where is the urgency conservatives? Not even Bolt is crying about it every night like he once did. He's more interested in attacking "the left" and political correctness.

Seems that matters more now.

Good debt and bad debt!

lol, quoting the Kook. Ex Gillard adviser and believer in the magic pudding.

Wasnt whining about deficits under her now was he?

Budget went in to deficit after Asia Financial crisis did it?

Do you not remember all the utterly ridiculous policy ideas those two came out with ? Pink batts, green cars, ruddbank, cheques to dead people etc etc etc

Lol but there was a magic pudding. Gina just ate it all and the hicks traded the rest of it for new Navaras.

Just imagine if we kept that 300b in blue collar handouts. And all our companies, it's all worth a lot more now than 10 years ago! What about gold? What's that currently trading at? Don't see how offloading all your assets for cash is considered conservative. We've kind've impoverished ourselves and put ourselves out of the game now!
