I'd play Mohr/Brand alongside Frawley with a back 6 of:

Stratton Frawley Hardwick
Henderson Mohr/Brand Burgoyne

Get Sicily in the forward line.
There is no way known they will play Sis foward, he just sets up play so well from down back.

there was a kick in the first quarter yesterday I don't think anyone else on our list currently could have pulled off.

he got the ball under pressure and kicked around the smother attempt to hit up a team mate

Clarko is going to want that more than the goals he would kick up forward, he will setup more than he would score directly

Mirra is undersized, lacks nous with the footy and gets lost terribly in transition, not to dissimilar to Chip, Chip is just lucky he is a bit bigger and has a reputation to shut down key forwards (which in my opinion is over stated). Hopefully Mohr can do the job, also KB develops further although I have doubts.

Spot on re Mirra. Not up to it. Depth only.

Sic is playing in defence. He is just too valuable there. Given our lack of run and ability to deliver from the back half has reduced dramatically since the departures of hodge Mitchell gibbo and the injury to birch

Every day of the week if you ask me.

I hope we sign Meadows before next weeks clash with Carlton, would love to see him play in that game and really see what he can provide.

Some promising reports, looks like we are finally building some depth through the midfield... Tell me again how the hell did Worpel last to us in the draft? His selection was pure robbery, looking forward to his development and can really see him become a 24-25 possession inside mid this year.

Apparently there was question marks on his kicking ability.
Deficiencies like these are quickly eradicated in the Hawthorn system.

Where is this put Sicily forward uprising coming from? He went from unreliable but talented forward, to AA calibre defender and now we want to take him out of defense?

He is currently our best field kick, he is one of the best field kicks in the league - why play him forward and waste that talent?

Due to the fact we struggle to take a contested mark in the forward line and he's decent at it. He's far less damaging when made accountable rather than floating loose in the back half, which teams will probably cotton on to. There are still plenty of good ball users that can play in the back half - Hendo, Hardwick, Burgoyne, Morrison, Birch (if fit)

You have this thing against Chip, not sure why. Comments about him getting lost in transition and his use of the footy are amusing, particularly when you were campaigning all season for the Brand (the poster child of getting lost in transition) to be included. I mean, Brand can't even handball - I think I saw him drop the ball in handballing attempts more than he actually fired them off last year.

In 2018 chip was only soundly beaten twice:
1. Jack Riewoldt (4 goals)
2. Ben Brown, and that was because our midfield was absolutely dominated (4 goals)

He did not have a player kick more than 4 goals on him the entire year.

Contested marking is a different animal as a forward to a defender. Sicily is a fantastic contested mark, when he's allowed to play his way and read the ball better than his opponent who is also trying to take a mark. When he's forward against guys who are only there to kill the ball and stop him from marking it, he's inconsistent. In that case not only are you losing his immense field kicking, you're also losing his ability to mark the ball as he would like.

Think I'll be keeping a quiet eye on Morrison over the next few weeks and see where and how he plays.
He looks magnificent. He did have light strapping under his right? Knee. His kicking was a bit loose. On the same wing as Issie but they did not get too close too often.

Cheers, that’s a fair portion of our talent either not playing or on a minute restriction.
Jaeger and Gunston were managed by playing three quarters and neither looked restricted and they both cover a lot of ground

People suggesting moving Sicily forward are overlooking a critical factor (apart from the fact that he is basically an AA defender).

The new rules concerning field zoning and kicking in after a point have changed the landscape and make it absolutely mandatory that he stays back.
His greatest strengths are his reading of the ball and marking and his sublime kicking.
Given that he'll now be defending the opposition's open forward line caused by the 6/6/6 zoning, his sublime skills, particularly intercepting, will be a major plus for us.

There's no way our coaches are going to move him forward and lose that advantage.

Plus our forward line is still, at least potentially, ridiculously potent. If Rough can get back somewhere close to his '13 and '14 form, now that the burden of the captaincy has been taken from his shoulders, it's still one of the elite forward lines in the league.

Got to say was very impressed with how sharp our ball movement and ball handling was even having regard to the intraclub status of the game. Not to mention the set shot kicking for goal which was generally very good. We look fit. Slim and fit. Burger, Poppy and Rough in particular look rejuvenated. Got a bit scrappy later in the game when the heat went out of it and it turned into circle work but plenty of run. Poppy ran riot out of the midfield in the last quarter.

We have got another band of smalls coming through with Dylan Moore leading the charge. He is a gem. Michington flashed in and out. Doesn't tend to get involved a lot but what he does is good.

Not sure the negative comments on Cuz he got to the drop of the ball at stoppages as well if not more than anyone. Works very hard and accumulates.

Shiels was in everything. Meadows a real surprise and again was in everything - worked hard got to good spots - certainly got enough size. Made an effort to look at his kicking and he hit targets regularly. Doesnt look a penetrating kick but well and truly up to the grade being one of the better players out there. Sort of a bit like an Ed Curnow perhaps.

No.34 in the blue tall left footer who kicked a beauty on the run looked promising. Was hoping it was Jones but it wasnt so perhaps was a top up player. A few others i didnt recognise - 11 with the fuzzy hair for the orange, 11 for the blue, another bloke Macca running around. Andrew Moore the BH premiership skipper also topped up.

Mohr's positioning and body work was first class. Outpointed Mitch Lewis regularly. Looked really solid down back. Puts some real pressure on Frawley form-wise which is great. As per his time at GWS he tends to just boot the ball long from the back half. Brand's 2nd half was as per his really promising VFL form in the 2nd half of last year. TOB as well was pretty settled in the back half.

Scrimshaw looks a real find. Looks to have some aggression to when he wants to which is a bonus. Really good size.

Greaves is a nice type - smaller than i thought but very vocal, very clean and a good decision maker. Not sure what posi he ends up playing though given his size.

Cegs Pitto and Big Boy are all firing. Ned Reeves is a big unit but a long long way off. Not even VFL seniors ready for mine so would be very very surprised if he was rookied.

Mitch Lewis plays more of a roaming fwd than KP so don't get your hopes up on him being Rough's replacement in the contested marking space. He moved well without being dominant. Kicked a monster from outside 50. Showing real promise but perhaps not in the role most are hoping for.

Teia Miles had a bit of it but turned it over much more regularly than normal.

Worps kicked a beauty after a double fend off. He looked great when he was out there. Jaeger all class with a great goal. Really starting to use the jets to break away from trouble which is a great sign.

The others all played typical games Smith, Bruest, Gunners, Sic, Harry, Hendo, Stratts, . Ross and Hanrahan two of the quieter ones but some constructive passages. I think i picked up Walker for a while and liked what i saw but with the jumper swapping he and Michington looked a bit similar other than Michingtons bright wheels.

Definately a stronger squad in 2019 than 2018 for mine. Have cut the list well and drafted and traded well. Whether that is reflected on the ladder at the end of 2019 I am not sure.

That’s without Mitchell, Scully, Wingard and Birchall fit too.

Have to agree that Sic is better used back despite the fact we are crying out for someone who can take a contested mark in the forward 50. Agree with those who previously suggested Brand go forward. Imo Lewis is still a year or two off the pace.

Brand Bio when drafted by us:

DOB: 08/04/1994
Height: 198cm
Position: Forward
Weight: 84kg

Bio: Tall and athletic forward with excellent power, and explosive speed. His agility, awareness of where to lead and contested marking ability make him a dangerous target up forward. Has had an excellent season at Colts level highlighted by a season best 6 goals and 18 possessions vs North Adelaide in Round 4, also played 3 games in the Reserves.

I recall Axeman saying 34 Blue was Walker.

11 Orange - Nathan Mullenger-McHugh????
