Lance Franklin
Tom Lynch
Dustin Martin
Nat Fyfe
Tom Boyd
Jeremy Cameron

All topped the $1 million mark last year, with 3 of them between 1.2 and 1.3.

Franklin and Martin are understandable, could argue Fyfe as well. Not sure on the other 3 though.

Also, Kane Cornes and his editor really need to proofread their articles better: "Not all of those six, particularly Boyd, Cameron and Lynch, deserved that six-figure salary,” Cornes wrote for radio station SEN." Although, perhaps he is suggesting those three should be on $99k :D

I'd just caution those are reported salaries. Easy to confuse the AFL data which is definitive and the individual salaries which are speculative.

Tom Boyd is deadset one of the most fortunate people in Australian history. Talk about right place, right time. If he’s smart and invests wisely he and the next few generations are set.
Reportedly we had set up a war chest to go after any one of Boyd, Patton or Cameron at the end of 2015. Patton did his knee and Griffen suddenly quit so the deal for Boyd was raced through in 2014.

He’s probably performed the least of the three since but obviously killed it when it counted. Patton has a great ‘16 prelim but is looking like having a shortened career and Cameron has smashed it mostly but was terrible in the prelim v the Dogs.

Hope Boyd pulls it together when he’s back from injury but it’s one of the more interesting trades in recent times regardless. How much is a massive GF worth?

Do we know it’s those six? I hear Jon Hay’s deal at North was very back ended.

We actually rate players on a number of games, like the rest of the footy world. Cameron had a very good 2016. Your obsession with one game to rate Patton and Cameron is really silly.

Well, that's what is being reported by SEN 1116 and then parroted by News.com - whether that's gospel truth could certainly be debated, since there are few avenues of official confirmation.

I think they're using some old stats. McGovern signed for 1.1m p.a.

Probably all seven milly to a Saints supporter :(

But seriously, good post. Cameron and Patton look (at this stage) to have much better careers overall, but Boyd had that one perfect day in September...

Boyd was to be front loaded for the first years. So not sure about this tbh.

In any case we had cash to throw at hurly, wingard etc and keep players (players who left recently weren't cash issues)

You couldn't front load his first year. It was the second year if his rookie contract. After that yeah.

Two of them being on Richmond's list suggests they may lose more of their depth this trade/free agency period. Got to make the most of this window or risk looking like Sydney.

Lynch being on the list was on last years pay.
It's fairly widely reported that he took a pay cut (and that his contract is back loaded), so he wont be there again for the next few years.

Are the Swans still paying out Tippett’s contract or did he receive a LTD (Long Term Disability) buyout.

Yep, still paying him out and dealing with Buddy and Joey Kennedy on huge amounts.

Poor list management for mine.

I think you'll find Tippett is at least partly outside the cap. That's why he's still on the list. Keeping him means the payment can be moved to this years TPP, but also they can offset a players payments to replace him.

Most of Richmond's best players are in the bracket where they won't be getting big pay rises as at around the 26-30 age. They may even take pay cuts to balance the list for younger players coming through like Rioli, but we got rid of a lot of fringe 22 players like Miles/Lloyd/Ellis who were on decent coin.

I doubt Lloyd and Miles were on decent coin considering they'd only signed one year deals.
