Let’s hope they do it. Scott might even avoid it as a tactic altogether. Can’t see Stanley bullying Gawn. Expect Dees to get on the front foot and start roughing up Stanley and the kids! Stand up cats!

I hope we don't try anything too silly - we played the ball last Fri and served us well. Plus, after the publicity, I wonder if the umps would be watching for it..

I actually think we are getting them at a good time.
Dees seem to still not quite have their mindset right. If you contrast our approach and resolve with theirs from week 1-you’d have to be more pleased with us.
They lasted longer in 2018, but had, like us, an ordinary exit from the finals. And as one would expect, teams are usually keen to atone for that- we came out firing whereas they chucked it it last week. If we can go on from round 1’s second half, we are a very good chance to roll them. Viney is underdone and he monstered us. Dees may well get their heads right during the year, and will be very hard to beat, but they seem gettable to me at this point in the year.
I think the psychology of round 2 is completely different to round 1. Round 1 is a completely different beast. Teams have 4 months to line up their opponent - look at Brisbane, Freo, GWS, hawks. This will be a better reflection of where we are both at. Can cats back up and Dees will be more switched on after their “wake up” call. Don’t disappoint cats!! Expectations have risen!!

Kolo out for a small

We should beat Melbourne it's too early in the season for outside teams to do well as their skills aren't up to it yet. Being at home is a further advantage.

Should win by 5+ goals
Melbourne had the most contested possessions in the league in 2018, the second-most clearances, and the second-most contested marks. (Yes, I know those numbers are slightly inflated because they played 25 games).

Oliver, Brayshaw, Jones and Viney are a pretty formidable set of inside hard-nuts.

Why bring up the Elim final as if it was Guthrie's fault. There were plenty worse. You don't see Cam's passion because you don't see it. Not because he doesn't have it. If he went elsewhere and played to his usual level, "you"'d be saying "why didn't he do that with us". (You as in plenty)
Varcoe is a prime example.
Now Vdubs, asserting you know what I see is a slight overstatement.
Firstly I dont believe I made claims about his passion, but far more notably about his performances in the past 3 years.
Henderson has played in the twos and earned a spot. And he is again. Cockatoo has played in the twos, Taylor has played in the 2s' Constable played a full year to earn a spot, Dare say scooter will have to come via the twos.
Tell me, with Cams underperforming games in the past 3 years, why is he immune.
Of the players mentioned above do you think any of those have underperformed in more games than Cam?
He is not any longer in the elite member group of our team.
In 15 I had him there. Along with the Duncans of our squad.
It is time to earn his way back and be shown there are no free places any more.
Narkle, Henderson, Fort, Cunico worked their butts off last week to try and earn a spot in the team.
No Doubt Scooter will too if placed there.
Hard school makes for decent spot rivalry.
We started the year with a win against a grand finalist from last year. These kids were shown their work earned them a spot. See what happened.
Make the lad play for his spot and give him KPIs. No shirking, No running into trouble, no poor decision making, no laziness.
It's not a reflection of his passion. He's one of a list.
Tuohy and Bews can be added to the list of those out as well.
IMHO at present
Defenders ahead of Cam
Blicavs, Stewart, Taylor, Henry, Tuohy, O'Connor, Clark, Kolo, Henderson, Bews
Mids ahead of Cam
Parfitt, Kelly, Duncan, Dangerfield, Selwood, Menegola, Constable, Dahlhaus
That is already 18 players
To that list you need to add Hawkins, Stanley, Ablett, Ratagolea, Rohan, Atkins
Then following that list we have to consider beyond just Cam
Miers, Fogarty, Scooter, Smith, Cunico, Narkle Jones, Fort, Cockatoo, Abbott, Jones, Parsons, Simpson Zuthrie and Draftees.
How would that entitle him to automatic selection.
If he's a mate of yours I admire your tenacity.
Otherwise what on earth are you basing this argument on?

To be fair mate they had this exact question on the cattack podcast and both hosts said he was an automatic inclusion so there must be something to base the argument on!!!

Haven't heard the podcast
If he is selected it will be what it is, but questioning me about my thoughts on Cam's passion is still not valid or rational.
I see Tuohy, Bews, Guthrie and Cockatoo are tests or available. A few interesting decisions there

Tuohy won’t play for a few weeks, and cocky isn’t ready to play at all. I doubt we will see him for at least a month or 2. Bews won’t be ready for senior selection either. Guthrie might be the only in but i pray they make him play vfl to prove his calf is ok. I would spew up if he gets an instant recall and hurts it again, leaving us a man down. He’s not good enough to be an automatic inclusion anyway.

Reading a few people suggesting Jordan Clark might possibly be any slight chance of being dropped..... LOL.

There isn’t a single microscopic chance this kid gets demoted. There’s certain young blokes that come into the league that just belong straight away, and he’s one of them.
He is a jet.

Good post.
I have him ahead of Clark, MOC, Miers, Atkins, CC and afa importance to team, on a par with Menegola, Dalhaus.
I do not know him.
That's not to say that I don't want Clark in the team- he looks ready made. but Guthrie is proven value over his career from my pov. Not great, but good value.

Judging by Scott’s presser Guthrie and Tuohy will be available for selection this week but Narkle is “working on some things” in the VFL.
Listening to the podcast with Ling and Tuohy yesterday, Tuohy himself stated he was looking at a return between rounds 4-6, and joked about maybe having to have a hit out in the reserves. Strange but welcome news.

If they drop clark we need new management. The excitement watching this kid is through the roof.
Been a while since a draftee has brought this much hope with him.
Agree with you wholeheartedly.
The future

In my opinion Vdubs (hope you had good vow experiences in your youth. Not ted bundy like but good) Clark, Menegola and Dahlhaus are far more important in their team roles than Cam. MOC and CC are showing that they are key in their roles.
MOC has not put a foot wrong in his defensive role and indeed did some very crucial work in our win over the Pies, nullifying some very good players in crucial contests. He even made a nuisance of himself moving up forward at times.
CC to my view was crucial with his quick vision, spotting outside players and quickly shooting the ball by hand to them. Sel, Danger, Kelly and Parfitt all benefitted from his inside work. Reckon a few more good performances from him will lock him in our midfield.
Atkins is obviously as hard as a cats head. We have been void of this up forward for some time with McCarthy and Cockatoo injuries in the past few years. He and Dahlhaus have brought it and will be hard to move them for that alone.
Miers is the only potential person for Guthrie to replace at this point. It would be hard to drop him though as he also did some hard running and is another dangerous goal shark to take opponents concentration off Gaj.

Oops. Misread the Tuohy tweet. He’s been talked down. Scott denied a setback but implied he wasn’t ready.

Hasn't played a minute of a pre-season, and hasn't played for 6 months. He needs match fitness in the vfl without a doubt. He can't come straight back in.

Miers is the only potential person for Guthrie to replace at this point. It would be hard to drop him though as he also did some hard running and is another dangerous goal shark to take opponents concentration off Gaj.

Guthrie surely can't be used as a pressure forward. He doesn't have the work rate for that. Not like for like with Miers imo.

Well I think we just lost the game ... Scott basically said we won't be physically targeting Gawn.

A few things on this.

Melbourne will be ready for any physical tactics and will respond in kind. They thrive on that stuff more than us. We are undisciplined more than intimidating when this stuff kicks off.

People are underestimating the ability of Ryder and Lycett if they think that was only reason Gawn got turned over. Ryder when fit is probably a better player than Gawn.

Stanley’s game is not rough stuff, let him play his natural game.

Port outran Melbourne, not outfought them.
