Indeed. And the ex players make zero effort in most cases. One of the tragedies about Eddie's current situation is that he used to be a decent journalist. I really rated his work on they way up. He has been dragged down to the level of the other halfwits. Lowest common denominator. You still see occasional glimpses of his journalistic abilities eg. his interviews on EMT which were largely very good in my opinion.
On a side note the longer I watch NBA this season the less impressed I become with some of those guys. They can go on a fifteen minute tangent because everyone has a hardon for a MVP candidate. It's worse when that player is in neither of the teams that are playing in the game the idiots in the box are supposed to be commentating.

I watch a lot of EPL games and its like chalk and cheese. The commentators know everything about the players, the refs, the background behind any ceremonies like the coin toss, black armbands, minutes silence, fans protest etc. The arseclowns we have to put up with would never make it through the first interview. Personally I don't think it's to much to ask to expect commentators to do their homework prior to a game in order to provide viewers with informed and insightful commentary. Ex players are not given a free ride either. I have listened to several interviews where they have described how much effort and research goes into a match. If they don't make the effort they get found out and they don't get any more work.

I don't follow EPL but my brother does and he listens to a podcast made up of ex players, journos and managers and even from listening to it once its miles better than anything we see. Much better than the actual commentators too, at least according to him.

I dunno what its called. I'll try and remember to find out if you want.

Thanks. I'd appreciate that. I love the explosion of fan based media in the EPL. Some of the effort that the fans go to despite being unpaid is highly impressive.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Brad Scott’s Kangaroos suddenly find themselves in an 0-2 hole to start the season, after coughing up a near-four-goal lead against Brisbane. The Roos were up against it, allowing 66 inside 50s, and eventually cracked late in the game. Obviously losing consecutive games is bad whenever it happens, but the fixture makes this look even worse for North Melbourne. After winning 12 games last year, they would’ve seen two games against 2018 bottom six finishers to open the season and thought a 2-0 start was very plausible. Instead, the opposite has happened.

In the votes

This was a tale of two groups. There were four Kangaroos players who ranked among the top five overall players on the ground, according to the Official AFL Player Ratings - Ben Cunnington (36 disposals, 10 clearances), Aaron Hall (26 touches, seven inside 50s), Luke Davies-Uniacke (26 disposals) and Jared Polec (23 touches, two goals). But the next 10 best players were all Lions. That group of four just didn’t have enough help.

Room for improvement

See above. Jasper Pittard and Shaun Higgins were solid in the first half, and Ben Brown lifted in the second, but the rest of the Roos just weren’t good enough. Five players (Bailey Scott, Kayne Turner, Tom Campbell, Marley Williams and Ben McKay) had single-digit disposals.

The Magoos

Perhaps the winless start to the season will give Paul Ahern another chance at AFL level. He certainly looked worthy of it against the Northern Blues, being among the VFL Kangaroos’ best. Mason Wood kicked just one goal.

That's the ruthless shit our club needs.
Unfortunately this new world with social standards that must not offend, polarise, judge or be seen as being cruel in its masculine connotations of toxicity and the fact it's April fools Day

If you think that is the problem I pity you. The Board holding the coaching group accountable for sub-standard performances and Brad dropping non-performers to the magoos is not affected by gender politics

How do you know that?
