That probably brings up the argument again of why we should have chase May harder, instead of Beams.

Don't get me wrong. I love Beams in our side but I think May was more of a requirement.
We did pursue May but couldn’t get a deal done with what we had. If you can think of a way we could have produced a top 5 pick (what they were asking for) then I’m all ears.

Goals will be kicked it's inevitable. it's what he does for team balance which allows Langdon, Moore, Howe & crisp play more intercepting / attacking footy. so take him out. but then who comes in. you could say Reid or Dunn. but cross those off the list now. perhaps Goldsack. but then we are back to a small defence.

Goldsack is next in. I don't think it would make us too small because we now have Moore back there who wasn't last year.

whilst Moore has the height I put him more in the Medium size. I don't think he has the body shape to play on the real Power forwards. the other factor is that " heaven forbid " should Grundy go down mid game Roughhead can at least pinch hit in the ruck

By round 13 or so, Roughie will part of furniture at Pieland, and every spoil that he sends the ball into stands will be cheered just loudly as Moore's. Fact that this guys can play in every line Back Ruck and Forward is pure genius for the needs of team. Always admired him from as far and now his a Pie, its like when Tarrant come back that's what it feels like with the type of player he is. Beams also has the Tarrant feel about it.
This, having him as a backup ruck option is very important

Moore is 200cm tall and spent the last two weeks playing on Ratugolea and Reiwoldt respectively. I think it's pretty accurate to call Moore a key position defender.

But what power forwards still exist in the game?
Kennedy and Hawkins are the two good ones that come to mind. Maybe Patton, but its been a while since he's been a threat. Maybe Lynch and Hogan, but id probably put them in the next group.
Most top KPF's are really your more agile types that are taking marks out on the lead in space, rather than the old gorilla types that outmuscle their man. Moore is more than equipped to match most of these guys. (Though i would still like him as our 2nd KPD, just because I reckon that, similar to a Rance or McGovern, he will shine when he had the flexibility to play off his man, and not be stuck defending the oppositions main target)

You are prob right.

However I am sure if we really wanted May, we could have got it done. In fairness though, Roughhead looks a far bigger bargain with May already missing 2 of first 3 rounds.

I was going to ask who is our next fullback option if Roughead was injured or not performing, but I think it would be Goldy.

no doubt power forwards are a dying bread. the only issue there is that the names you have rattled off are seemingly the 4-6 teams you would think are going to be at the pointy end of the season. Roughhead and Maynard " seem " to be playing the more lockdown roles allowing Moore, Crisp, Howe and Langdon are playing a bit looser and 3rd man up . so if we move Roughhead or drop him does the overall balance of the side shift. and i guess this the unknown.

Seems ti be holding his own. Hasn't stank it up yet.
A couple of months in the side will get him playing like one of the boys.
The more victories the better for that.

Absolutely. he is two games in. he has clicked with the defenders well. It will only get better and better as the season goes on. His first anzac day game coming up this month. Be the biggest crowd he has played in front of since 2016 GF

Nope-he is a big man and the perfect size and athleticism for any of the gorillas in the league.

Guessing he'd be north of 100kg's this season and now has 4-5 preseasons under his belt so has the physical size and core strength to compete with those guys.

when back and checked out the goals his opponents have kicked.

Against Hawkins
-Hawkins marks one on the lead from an accurate menegola kick, Carey thinks impossible for defender to stop it but Roughead was beaten on the lead.
-Roughead peels of Hawkins to attack the contest, Hawkins runs out the back and snaps one.

Against Lynch
-Lynch’s first goal a result of a Langdon push out, Roughead connected the double fist this same contest.
-Lynchs second goal a mark on the lead against roughead.
-Lynch’s 3rd goal a mark from a kick quickley hacked out of the centre square.

Could be worse!
