I find it so cringeworthy to see grown adults red faced with anger, leaning over the seat in front of them, spitting everywhere as they yell BOOOOOOO.
it's genuinely ****ed

I'd rather see frees paid when they're there than this "knocked out in the tackle" rugby style scrimmage shit that is happening now days.

In the game of Australian rules you handball or kick it not just drop it on contact and knock the ball forward it's a crap rule that needs scrapping. Why bother having tackling if its not rewarded by being "knocked out in the tackle" no shit it was knocked out in the tackle that's why the opposition is tackling to win the ball back.

Way too many rules have been brought in and have made it very hard for the umpires to adjudicate.

Lets go back to basics and if you don't correctly handball or kick the ball when being tackled or just drop it or spun 360 pay and don't handball or kick it holding the ball.
I mostly agree mate. But in my opinion the umpring is not the cause of the way the game is played. And many of the rules that come in are a reaction to some very negative anti-football trends that a handful of coaches pioneered. Its the fault of players under instruction that don't attack the ball but rather wait for the opponent to do so then tackle them ....often illegally ...before that player can do anything. This repeated over and over creates such a mess that if every free was paid there would easily be 200 to each team in a match.

I like the idea and agree with you but have you ever tried to re-pack an egg?

reckon you could pop over to the pies' autopsy thread, poo in the middle of it, do a little dance, say * suck cheese-sticks and still come home with a swag of likes and loads of well wishers........

Was at the game today for work and my one take away was thank f$&@) we didn’t give up 2 firsts for Sheil. In all honesty and not due to my Carlton bias would much rather Walshy.
that sentiment seems to be gaining a bit of traction around here..........

No offence to the dude and a 3rd mid in a few years behind Cripps SPS that sort of thing as he was at GWS yeah he’s great but watching him live for the first time today as a * player just would not have done what we needed for our team. And of course easy to say now with hindsight but walshys just cleaner and runs harder. Walshys more your first string mid than 3rd

Interesting. I coped so much shit at the time when I said I didnt want him [emoji848]

I just hope* the self righteous almighty people (who tend to come out of the woodwork in these situations) don’t now think they can get on their high horse and tell people they can’t boo. The line gets blurred in these situations

FWIW I only boo umps and players that have committed a dirty act behind the ball

I’ll be honest with you Soap I wanted him because he looked brilliant in that GWS midfield but not for 2 firsts. Then seeing him live today was very very disappointing he’s one of those give and go blokes that gets 400 touches hanballing sideways then getting it back then putting on Danihers head and giving him no chance. Not what we needed.

I’m not telling anyone to do anything but I find booing poor in any situation. JMO

I wasnt referring to you at all, more of a general statement of what happens when sentiment shifts

Exactly....they can’t control the umpires paying free kicks when they’re there though. And yes I know the umpires are instructed to umpire the way they’re.

I am actually a fan of the rule changes this year, clearly well thought out....however, coaches in the AFL are far smarter than anyone else creating these rules.

I just wonder when the penny will finally drop and get the umpires to umpire to the correct interpretations the rules have been drafted with...it’s their only weapon they have that the coaches don’t have total control over.

Free kicks, paid when they’re there, clears congestion. That is fact

They need him to strike whilst they're in the premiership window. It was probably the right call on their part.

At the end of the year, Hurley will be 29, Hooker 31, Bellchambers 30, Zaharakis 29 and Heppell 27.

These guys are closer to the end of their career than the start.

Agreed that Shiel was rubbish today. Has the run and dash but his kicking under zero pressure - especially to the advantage of his forward - was awful.

Having said that the umpiring - which I’m sure you’ve all mentioned - was atrocious. The best bit was when Crisp was tackled and everyone stopped because it was clearly holding the ball.

And having said that the * are, annoyingly, playing a better brand of football. Thought they were going to be smashed. Better kicking from the guy who cost them 2 draft picks would have got them across the line.

(I wish we had Saad... )

We were never giving up pick 1 for him, it was our first next year and change.

We would have had him at that rate if Dodo didn’t buckle in the last 20 mins of trade period.

His problem at Essendon is he has to get it first which takes away his biggest strength.

Fixed that for you.

Everything that has ever been thrown at Gibbs Beams is also guilty of, but unlike Beams Gibbs at his best tackles. Beams does just enough to fulfill the nonsensical tackle definition the AFL uses, and very rarely at that. He's also emblematic of why/how they almost lost today; huge, massive front runner who enjoys a) smashing the ball 60 metres down the field to make it someone else's problem, b) taking pings at goal without nailing the shots or lowering the eyes, and c) genuinely giving up on chasing the opposition player with the ball. De Goey was guilty of this a bit, too.

There's no killer instinct in the pies, and their gameplan is reliant on either the team's runners (when they're allowed to run onto the field) or their leaders remembering to tell the players to slow it the **** down and stop handballing to someone in a worse position or just for the sake of it. They just got outpressured by Essendon, FFS. There's no excuses for that.
That escalated quickly.
