Understandable. But Tim Kelly has shown himself to be very professional with how he has performed this year when the trade couldn't be done. He would be a real good fit for the Fremantle midfield as well as an inside/outside mid.

Clearly he is a bloody good footballer and is handling the pressure very well.

Would walk into every midfield in the comp. Geelong were 100% right not to trade him last year.

Be interesting to see if any Freo fans change their tune. If they end up having a shit year I reckon the club will want to hold on to they first pick and get Kelly.

I'm sure plenty will, if he were to end up in purple. I would begrudgingly cheer him. Manager carried on like an A grade twat last year and I hope he stays at Geelong for that reason.

I think he is most likely to end up at West Coast for pick 15-18 and next years second (or third).

The Age podcast reporting that Tim Kelly's manager is touring the Fremantle FC facilities next week and seem open to them as an option of WC can't get the deal done.

I think the manager may have learnt a bit from last year's trade period and is only looking to leverage Geelong and WC into playing nice.

The emotional supporter in me wants nothing to do with Tim Kelly after last years trade period.
Smart to keep your options open.

The muppet was clearly not smart last year. Tried to back Geelong into a corner by declaring West Coast or nothing.

Might come back to bite him in the long run.
Totally.

Made it easy for the Cats to play hardball.

If Kelly's manager Van Richard Cranium just said they were open to a trade with Fremantle but West Coast was a better fit for his client, then Kelly may have got to the Eagles.

The depth of last year's draft with value going deep into the second round was well predicted. Geelong not trading probably wasn't about the value of the trade being offered. They wanted Kelly so they could have the best chance of a premiership this season, and if that panned out, their best shot at keeping Kelly.

Pretty much this.

To be fair it sounds like Kellys partner said no to Freo so we will never know how far it would have gotten.

Gee I thought this thread would of been on fire after the game tonight. But not 1 bullet been shot:cool:
The names thrown up like Allen, Venables, Brander, Cole, Petruccelle etc all looked pretty lackluster today. Players of that ilk will surely have to be just the steak-knives in a trade. As a supporter I'd prefer some draft capital to pick up another young gun ourselves at the draft to add to the many we've added in recent years.

By the look of them Kennedy is the only one worth taking for Kelly. Not really interested in a bag of scraps either needs to be an equiv player

Allen and brander have high level talent. Petruccelle gets on the end of some of the cheapest goals you will ever see. Cole is serviceable but we are stocked in his position. Venables is the main concern. Struggles at 10 touches a game at WAFL level and some how is in the team. Maybe some of the West Coast supporters can shed some light on what is happening their..

Venables had an injury interrupted pre season and it’s showing. Needs to go back to the WAFL to get some form up. Not ideal, buts it’s not panic stations yet either.

Not really bump worthy is it?

We were rubbish and Kelly was a non factor.

If we had Kelly today we probably would've dropped him for another freaking tall.

You need midfielders more than you need talls though.

Venables was dropped, did exactly what he was doing in the AFL in the WAFL and was recalled. And you guessed it, he's doing the same again. Getting nothing from our small forwards at the moment unless they kick goals. Venables, Ryan, Cripps, Petruccelle all sub 10 touches today. Not good enough.

Brander played Rd 1 forward and came in for this one to play back as Barrass is out. Didn't play back in the WAFL last week. And Schofield is already in. Weird selections.

No.

We need all of the talls. All of them.

Nevermind that our premiership forward line had a FF, CHF and sometimes resting ruck, let's pick 4 key forwards in the 22 and see how that works out...

Some people have scoffed at me saying Kelly would play a HF/mid role. With Lecras gone, Rioli out and Cripps being a potato we could have used that today. Geelong defenders and wings racked up 20+ each for fun, our forward line added nothing.

Right now your midfield needs boosting as we showed today. You need the talls for the future but the mids now. Your selection panel also needs to not pick players when they are either out of form (see Venables) or playing positions they are not suited to (see Brander).

Yeah I was being facetious. I wouldn't have Brander and Allen in the current side. If we want Brander to fill in for Barrass then Schofield needs to go out.

Our midfield is struggling but it's not the only issue. We're not getting the same output out of Kennedy, Darling, Cripps, Ryan plus Rioli and LeCras aren't there. Transition out of forward 50 is killing us. Petruccelle going ok but has only played 8 games.

But yeah Tim Kelly. Wasn't the difference today, wouldn't have been for us.

Oscar Allen has been a hindrance these last few weeks after his bright start to the year. Started well when Kennedy was injured / not up to the pace, but last few weeks he's been getting in the road of Kennedy and Darling when flying for stuff.

He's essentially playing as the Lecras replacement, but hes playing too tall and needs to be that mid range forward / crumber that Lecras played for us.

His time will come, but playing him for the sake of it at the moment is affecting team structure.

Was it Tim himself though or his manager and wife? Tim to me just seems to enjoy playing footy.

Yeah his numbers weren't big but he still worked hard and laid a game high 11 tackles. I like that, it's not unusual for a player not getting his usual amount of ball to just be totally ineffective.

This weeks rising star nominee.

Picked up with one of those "crappy 2nd round picks". Pick 38 no less.

You already know about another crappy 2nd rounder we picked up in that draft pick 26.

And IMO the one who will end up the pick of the 2017 draft for the Eagles the U18 Lark Medalist pick 21.

So much for crappy 2nd rounders!!!
