Squad is in

World Test Championship Final and Men's Ashes squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vc), Mitchell Starc, David Warner

You whine too much. In this case, as in many, about nothing. Hazlewood isn’t playing in the WTC match.

He shouldn’t be near the Ashes squad. Should have been forced to ply county cricket or not be picked. It should have been that simple. If Smith did it, Hazelwood should have. Instead watch us pick the bloke in an Ashes test and he’ll break down again

You’re complaining about things that haven’t happened again. He played IPL, like many in all 3 squads who will be in England. I don’t think he should play unless injury forces our hand. So far, he’s not.

You actually trust our selectors to make that call? The last time they made the other decision and it was a howler as he lasted what 10 overs? IPL is not enough and you know it, there’s a big difference between a 2 over spell and 10 over ones, and having up to 20-22 overs in a day. He’s not match fit and never was going to be. How Neser wasn’t in the squad is a farce yeah he can be called in but I don’t trust these selectors making hard calls as it is they refuse to drop Warner

Then wallow in some very self indulgent and self righteous pity. Neser will be in the squad, they’ve all but confirmed that. Haze isn’t paying the WTC, they’ve also essentially confirmed that. Try enjoying cricket, it’s great.

With the packed schedule I think you will find that all quicks Cummins Starc Boland Hazelwood Neser will get a test during the series

Its how we manage them will be the key

I think the other 4 definitely will, and Haze may/likely will. Results and fitness are likely to dictate any further changes. Given his lack of exposed form and fitness, I can’t see Haze playing many.

Reckon Boland for the WC and then Hazelwood for the 1/2 ashes tests...depends on how we go and Boland in the WC

Its just a shame we just don't have one tour match in between the WC and the start of the Ashes..Very tight turnaround. Would be nice to give all the bowlers a proper run at least 15/20 overs before the tests.

Poms have the same issues they are not playing Anderson or Robinson against the Irish

I’m going to Lords for days 2 and 3 by which time Australia will be 1 up weather permitting and I am picking Australia to win the series 4-0 and the women 7-0.

On that, we have Neser playing CC, so he should be well acclimatised and ready to go. Cummins will be fine too, and Boland gets the WTC as a warm up. I’d definitely play Boland in the first ashes test - Edgbaston is a great ground for his style of bowling, as is Lords, would be more inclined to rest Starc for Edgbaston.

On their bowlers, we need our bats to spend as much time in the middle in the first couple of games as possible, force England to bowl a lot of overs. Their bowlers are a mixture of old, injury prone and flat out unfit.

5:30pm next Wednesday

You know, Perth is kind of the hub of cricket, you get acceptable starting times for most countries, can watch a good chunk of games in India, can watch english games (night Odis aren't great)

Some home tests are a bit annoying when they are at like 7 in the morning and you want a weekend sleep in

Anyway, will this 5:30pm start also happen with the ashes? I assume it'll be the same?

I'm very jealous of the starting times for sporting events in the Perth, the only thing that would annoy me is on the odd occasion you get friday night footy and it's a 1840 start WA time.

He was always going to be in the squad unless he was out for months injured. I personally don’t think he should play, unless 100% fit and others underperform. From that article, it sounds like he won’t play in the WTC final, so let’s not complain about things that haven’t happened.

we ain't picking hazlewood in the WTC squad to sit on the bench in a ONE off test.

he's either in the XI as he's no good on the bench if Cummins, Starc or Boland get concussed mid match.

would've been better to pick Cummins, Starc, Boland & Neser if there is still doubt over Hazlewood's fitness.

Hazlewood has taken 220 Test wickets. Putting him in a squad, hoping he can get fit is hardly the end of the world.
And now he’s not playing, hardly something for all the whinging on the last few pages.
Bolands in the squad, so he’ll play.

Hazlewood doesn't make it for mine. Been out for a while with injury and wouldn't risk it considering we have Neser or Boland who are more than capable.

How Neser missed the Ashes squad is also beyond me.

Ashes weren't on Kayo last time in England either.

Why WTC starts on a Wednesday??
Because with there being a reserve day that would take it to finishing on the Monday with the Ashes starting 4 days later. Starting Thursday would mean there would only be 2 days between a possible day 6 and the first Ashes Test.
