Yeah, it was a very emphatic rebuttal from his manager. If he was determined to stay in Vic, it would've been very wishy-washy and along the lines of "Well, he's a Vic country boy but interviews haven't started for potential draftees yet, so we'll sit down with clubs later in the year and see how it all pans out."

Instead, we got "Reid is very upset by these rumours and is absolutely prepared to move anywhere to play AFL."

Reid and his manager would have been very upset. Maybe because what was reported is essentially draft tampering.

So no surprise they were upset.

The rumour could be 100% true. It doesn't mean you want it spread across the front page and internet.

With Shuey hanging up the boots, it's now full time Nic Nat watch.
With Boots and Bunga hanging them up, there is a possibility they let Nic try get himself up and he make the call prior to the MSD next year. If he hasn't played or looking close to a month out from MSD, hang them up.

I'm not advocating for this, but it is an option.

Barrass being contracted doesnt increase his value as such. It merely protects us from being ripped off.

Eagles probably need to trade out a couple players as part of the list rebuild, and if Barrass wants to move it provides the club the opportunity to cash in. Demanding overs "because he's contracted" conflicts with our (hypothetical) goal of cashing in on a couple older players.

I liken it to selling a house.
  • If I don't want to sell my house, I expect an offer above market value to change my mind. (E.g.TK trade)
  • If I want to sell my house, I expect to be paid market value. (This is where the Barrass trade sits)
  • If I'm desperate to sell my house, I will settle for below market value. (E.g. Bowes salary dump)

So the debate should be "what is Barrass' market value" and not "how much does Sydney have to pay to make the offer too good to refuse".

Anyway, that's my opinion.
I see it as in between I don't want to sell my house and If I want to sell my house. As unless Sydney came a knocking, we weren't considering selling.

AFAIK Norths 5 year 3.5mill offer plus match payments is still the highest (average per year including match payments) paying deal on the table for McKay.

Now I have a bit of knowledge that some others don't in regards to the AFL's "compensation" formula that others might not. A significant part of what a club receives as compo is derived from what the club losing the player has on the table to them. From a technical standpoint there is an offer on the table by his current club which can pay over 800k a year which in itself may elicit tier 1 compo.
My issue with them getting band 1 under this scenario is that he is a restricted free agent. If the other offers are lower, then match them and keep your man. If you choose not to match a lower contract you should be forced to trade, otherwise the 16 other clubs end up paying draft capital for your decision.

I don't believe there should be any compensation involved at all if we lived in a perfect world and under this particular situation. The reality however is the players have all the power and on top of that the Northern Academies and FS further distort the draft. Next year up to 14 of the top 30 could be Academy or FS picks.

I've said it before but unless you get incredibly lucky I don't believe for a WA based club you can build a premiership side around the draft anymore. Even if you look at our last premiership list we still had 2 priority picks, got our all time leading goal kicker as steak knives in a trade, had the second best rookie pick of all time at CHB, Yeo was on our list only because Freo said they didn't have a spot for him on theirs etc. etc. Combined with somehow managing to pick 3 of the best 5 players of the combined 2010 draft even though whilst finishing last having our first pick at because of expansion sides.

Q .. Why aren't Sydney going for this Norf full back .
Ans : cos he is a spud

Actually it's because it's too big a commute for Harry to keep up the pretense that there's two of them.

Pretty much; with two retirements and plenty of dead wood, we're not going to struggle to make room for trades and new picks. NN is a great ambassador for the club, isn't costing us much and would provide some great mentoring to BBBW and Barnett. Just keep him til his contract runs down and if we can nurse him to a farewell game, all's the better.

Now you’re looking for the secret... but you wont find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled.

I don't think anyone is a QC any more.
Correct

Upon the death of Elizabeth II and the succession of Charles III, the General Council of the Bar wrote that all QC titles changed to KC "with immediate effect". This was not a matter of decision by the Bar Council, nor by the Crown Office. It is the automatic effect of the Demise of the Crown Act 1901, s 1.

Nic won't be running before January, and even then it will light and reduced load, so will miss most of preseason.

I don’t even see the benefit of keeping Nic when he’s fit, Bailey is better now and Nic hurts the team more than he helps it with how lazy he is off the ball + he only plays like what 60% of game time anyway? Love him, but it’s time to be a family man.

We just had two retirements from interstate born long term players who both mentioned in their pressers how once they got into the club they had no interest in ever leaving because of what a great club it is.

Even if Reid was indicating he would prefer to stay in Vic (he isn't) then I think WCE would back themselves in to retain him.

If we are guaranteed to finish bottom going in to the final round, is there any issue with us flying Reid and his family over for the game?

I'd be disappointed if Reid doesn't chair Shuey or Bung off the ground.

Just play him in the game. What's the afl going to do, take points from us?
