Both melts are fine with me because as potentially great Harley Reid could be, North somehow folding and handing over 2 and 3 is ludicrous and would make them a laughing stock.

We were in Subi's zone and one year their U14's came to town to play a combined Goldfields side. They decided to play the game down the road in Coolgardie without checking out the ground first.

We all rocked up in the morning and the oval was completely gravel but covered in double-gees and tumbleweeds. Not a blade of grass on it, only prickles. Like a wild west movie.

The dads had to get out there for about half an hour before the game and mow the tumbleweeds in.

Perth pussies wouldn't go near the ball when the game started.

That was in 1985 and pretty sure they have never sent a junior's team back to Kalg.

I didn't even know Coolgardie had an oval. I lived in Kal in the 60s and 70s though, long way back, so maybe they didn't then. Not surprised by the double-gees though at all.
