Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack II

Part I:

Thread Rules:
Alright.

I recognise that this is a fraught topic for any number of you posting here. Some of you will have family in Israel or Palestine. Some of you will have connections to either side of the conflict. What you need to understand is that this site has rules governing posting standards and the appropriate way to talk to other posters, and you will abide by them.

How this interacts with this thread is that the following will result in your post being deleted, with a recurrence of the same behaviour resulting in (depending on severity) a threadban for a week and a day off:
  • direct labelling of someone as anti-semitic or a terrorist sympathiser for posting that is merely critical of Israel's response over time. I appreciate that Israel has the right to defend themselves from violence, but that does not mean that Israel has carte blanche to attack disproportionately towards people under their care.
  • deliberate goading or flippant responses, designed to get people reacting to your posting emotionally.
  • abuse.
  • attempts to turn this into a Left vs Right shitfight.
  • If I see the word 'Nazi' in here, you had better be able to justify it in the post you're making and the comparison had better be apt. Godwin's law is in full effect for the purposes of this thread; if you refer to Nazis, you've lost whatever argument you're involved in.
  • Any defense of Hamas' actions on the basis of justification. There's no justification for genocide, regardless of whether or not they have the power to do so.
Please recognise that this is a difficult time for all involved, and some level of sensitivity is absolutely required to permit discussion to flow. From time to time, mods will reach out to specific posters and do some welfare checks; we may even give posters who get a bit too involved some days off to give people some time to cool down. This is not a reflection on you as a poster, merely that this is an intense subject.

I get that this is a fairly intense topic about which opinion can diverge rather significantly. If you feel you cannot be respectful in your disagreement with another poster, it is frequently better to refuse to engage than it is to take up the call.

From this point, any poster who finds themselves directly insulting another poster will find themselves receiving a threadban and an infraction, with each subsequent reoccurance resulting in steadily more points added to your account.

If you accumulate enough points in a 12 month period you will lose privileges:

5 points - 1 week off.
10 points - 2 weeks off
15 points - 3 weeks off
20 points - Account banned.

It has also become apparent that this needs to be said: just because someone moderates a part of this forum that isn't on Int Pol or the SRP does not hold them to a different standard of posting than anyone else. All of us were posters first, and we are allowed to hold opinions on this and share them on this forum.

Treat each other with the respect each of you deserve.

Thanks all.
Play nicely, all.

They really only needed the first sentence of this article and then ended it:

"On 15 December, an Israeli military spokesman told a press conference that the army had killed 3 Israeli hostages by mistake."

The next sentence should mention that they were waving white flags.

Israel in september saying they wouldnt listen to the world or UN. Just look how confident this nuffie (foreign minister) is about Israel ensuring Palestine never exists. Also mentions worst violence in 20 years in the West Bank, but Gaza must have been quiet....

A little good news solidarity in a bleak situation, marching in the streets right alongside their Palestinian neighbours and calling out the warmongering Zionists at every opportunity :thumbsu::

Looking more and more inevitable that Lebanon will be next...:sadv1:...troops on the ground is a massive military risk for Israel, IMO:

Seventy-one percent of Israelis believe Israel should conduct a large-scale military operation against Lebanon to deter Hezbollah, a recent poll has shown.

The survey was conducted by the Israeli Maariv newspaper amid worsening cross-border violence between the Israeli army and the powerful Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group.

A growing number of Israelis, especially those who evacuated their homes in the north, have urged their government to take decisive action against Hezbollah and push them away from the frontier, even if that means a land invasion.

Lebanese have horrifying memories of Israeli occupation - including a number of massacres - which officially began in 1985 and ended in 2000.

Superbowl propaganda...not a trace of shame in sight, the ads (paid for by the US government, effectively) playing while Palestinian civilians are murdered:

Israel ran a series of 30-second ads during the NFL Super Bowl on Sunday to push their narrative of the Gaza war, as Rafah was subjected to another massacre by Israeli war planes.

The ad begins by showing an NFL athlete playing with his son, then cutting to clips of Israeli hostages being held in Gaza playing with their kids before 7 October when around 250 Israelis were taken captive.

The commercial was dedicated to Israeli dads being held in Gaza, ending with the hashtag "Bring all dads back home".
It was part of an Israeli government campaign, overseen by the National Public Diplomacy Directorate, producing and promoting media for Israel's narrative on the Gaza war, which has killed over 28,000 Palestinians.

Another ad showed a packed stadium with the words: "In a roaring stadium, their silence is deafening. 136 people are still being held hostage by Hamas".

The Israeli government bought the Super Bowl ad space through Paramount's stream of the event, with the Israeli government likely paying a sum of $7 million for a 30-second space, according to pricing reported by The Wall Street Journal.

As the ad was being run, Israel conducted a rescue operation in Gaza's southern city of Rafah seeing two Israelis being released. At the same time, Israeli bombs killed around 100 civilians, as part of a diversion for the operation, according to Israeli officials.

The Houthi's have massively disrupting Israel's access to affordable goods, now the Jordanians are defying their King and his police to block the alternative land route which was expanded to get around the Houthi blockade.

They are all really hitting Israel where it hurts in their own small ways, as the recent Moody's downgrade for Israel's economic prospects demonstrated:

Hundreds of Jordanian protesters formed a human chain to block trucks carrying goods to Israel amid its brutal war on Gaza.
The protest took place near the Na'ima Bridge on the highway to the city of Irbid, northern Jordan this week, with further direct action continuing into Friday.

This route is used by trucks heading to the Sheikh Hussein Bridge, which connects the country to Israel.
The activists were protesting Jordan’s part in the so-called “Dubai-Haifa” land corridor, which connects Dubai's Jebel Ali Port in the UAE to Israel’s Haifa port, via roads passing through both Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

This overland line has become vital to Israel since Yemen’s Houthi rebels began targeting Israeli-aligned commercial vessels in the Red Sea's Bab al-Mandeb Strait in a bid to pressure it to stop its devastating war on Gaza.

The protesters involved in forming the human chain raised banners denouncing not only the participation of Jordan in the Dubai-Haifa land corridor, but also that of the Gulf Arab countries.

I think you are overselling what the Houthis are actually doing and how successful they actually are.

They are a nuisance at best and that were only really in the beginning before the US warships arrived, they aren't actually stopping anything of note. Half the missiles they shoot hit nothing, and the majority of the other half are intercepted by the US.

When the Houthis actually are able to strike a vessel, the damage is largely minor, and the vessel continues onto its destination.

I think ships are still going around Africa as a precaution.

It is such a high risk and completely pointless position. There is every chance that international courts do determine that genocide has occurred and Dutton will be left unequivocally supporting genocide.

It makes no sense.

Labor are 100% on the fence which I know pisses a lot of people off, but frankly given the geopolitical clout Australia has - SFA - that is probably where we need to be.
I dont think they are on the fence in regards to the ongoing genocide...they are 100% behind Israel. They wring their hands and say "play nice" but their actions do not back that up.
They immediately stopped funding to the UN aid agency and, still support Israel. If they were serious, they would suspend all contact with Israel while they commit genocide.

He’s all in on Islamophobia and pro Israel it would seem. Thinks this is his winning ticket.

Like the detention centre stuff it's all about nationalism and whipping up fear of the other. Aussies don't fear Jews, as Israel poses zero direct threat to Australia. But Sept 11 and the Bali Bombings make Islamic terrorism easy to create fear about.

the utter hypocrisy of the yanks position on the murderous corrupt israeli regime. they are the enablers. makes you want to puke.

Penny Wong's words are as infuentual as a wet hankerchief .
We need to recall our diplomat.
She does what she is told by the Israel lobby industry - like all of our politicians

tip: everyone find out who your federal member of parliament is and email them your thoughts on the Gaza issue and how Australia are acting. Make sure you put your full name and address and request a reply.

Is there anyone who still thinks that Israel doesn't want Gaza cleared of all of its citizens?

A single person?

This has been obvious since day 1. They have just been looking for an excuse to dismantle the place and kill everyone in it.

Vicious and cruel.

I hadn't been keeping up with this because it is too depressing.

But... IDF snipers shooting 5 and 8 year olds in the head?

It's incredible. Monstrous so-called "people" killing kids as target practice.

Oh but if some kids throw eggs around on the street in Melbourne it makes the front page.

Foul doesn't begin to describe it.

I’m happy for Australia to open up its borders and let them immigrate here. They can do their negotiating from here ..safe and sound and faraway from radical Islam.
The best form of revenge is to live well.

Is that basically: I'm into ethnic cleansing if the cleansed can land on their feet?

What a joke you are.

Where I disagree is that there would be a lot more dead if the plan was to kill everyone - I think the plan is to kill enough to trigger a mass exodus of refugees across the border into Egypt.

Quite a few have posted in this thread that appear to think otherwise.
