Something is going to give soon. I dont know how we can afford Pickett yet alone Warner to be honest. Hodor needs to stay on the park the rest of the year methinks
Agree, but let's face it, other clubs have been doing it for years.
Geelong have got away eith it for many years.
BUT ,just wait and see if Fremantle are not the first to get a whack for it.

My Grandad, who was a life member at St Freo and a boxer and ex trainer, once said to me that Maurice had lightning hands and could have boxed semiprofessional so i am not at all surprised.
Laurie and TI was a pleasure to watch pre game.
But on topic, how rude, ignorant, and racist was Dunstall last year.
Horrid comments
He should have known better than that.

They often used to mention Maurice as a "golden gloves" winner on football commentary back in the day and even Mark Jackson refers to not knowing Maurice was a golden gloves winner when they set up that infamous fight at South Fremantle.
I have read that it was an amateur welterweight title that Maurice won in 1977 in WA and represented the state in a Hobart national tournament.
Pretty sure that was Benny Vigona, Maurice' cousin, who was a golden gloves as well iirc

Are you referring to the the fight. Jackson's version is that he was set up by Benny Vigona to fight Maurice not aware that he had boxing credentials. Jackson and Vigona were apparently sharing a flat in Fremantle.

We must be a similar age. I remember begging dad to take us to the 1989 grand final where we got flogged by Claremont :(. Bit of a dreary day weather wise. I liked Willie Snr too, quite a dynamic player.

Yeah, I went to that game. Horrible! Same again a few years later versus East. That one was memorable cause a dirty dog from East (Lester-Smith I think, but could have that wrong) king hit Spinks in the opening quarter and broke his jaw. Was sitting in the old 3 tiered stand down at South's attacking end and saw it all. Not sure if it was captured on camera? The most disgraceful thing I have ever seen on a football field. The East player should have gone to jail. Mal Brown nearly caused a riot at quarter time, took a swing at an East Freo player. Crazy stuff.

Finally redemption in 1997. That grand final is up there with my favourite games I've ever been to.

It was Simon Moss who broke Jason Spinks jaw off the ball.

While we are on Wet Toast, I dont think it's been mentioned yet but Wes Wally looks increasingly like a top 20 pick with ESPN now having him as high as 13. That means the Hawks pick has to be traded for points instead of a Carlton pick which you could be pretty happy is going to be before him. Their trading last year has to be the worst performance we've ever seen and it's not close (GC Weller effort is entirely different).

They have the worst list any club has had in the AFL in the last 20 years, or very close.

To make it worse, they have no quality players between 20 and 25, and there best young player is likely to leave either this year or next.

They are highly dependent on players like McGovern, Yeo, etc who are in their last years and constantly injured.

They have made mistake after mistake, trading out 2 top 5 picks, for what appears to be limited players.

It will take 5 years of good drafting to get themselves out of this, and this is even harder as the training standards at the club have fallen off a cliff. Tasmania coming in will make it worse, but at least they may be able to get pick 1.

All they can do it gut the list, and get as many 1st round picks as possible, and draft deep every year.

Mate, the list is already gutted.
Oscar Allen, fat boy Reid, Liam Ryan.

You are getting rid of leadership, youth & somebody who actually has skill in that order.

There will be a lot of kids who will need leadership
In the next couple of years.
Remember are crappy rebuild which we are still coming out of.

We were to have a fit Mundy to pass on his experience, though it was not quite enough in my opinion.

And then we kept losing players to the east just as they were starting to gel as a team.

Eagles are ****ed for a good 5 years.

Correct. Not sure Benny ever fought in the ring, but he could go when required on theground.
There was the story od Jacko and Benny residing together.Benny went to Ross May about Jacko sleeping with a rifle.>Told Ross he was mad.
Ross had to remove the gun. He presented it to the police.

You put the words, fat boy, between Allen and reid. Which one were you refering to!
No one can tell me Oscar is fighting fit.Does not have the cut of an AFL footballer.
I go back to our early days whenb we off loaded Bond and Fletcher, justwhen we needed them as mentors.
And now look what we may have missed out on F&S wise.
Rebuilds must have experience, even if they are not in the best 23.

Benny had sublime natural skills. Easily as talented as anyone of his generation.

I know some will have heard or read my like of Benny. He was as his nick name suggested, a JET.
In my opinion, if he had the want and desire, he would have been better than the Great Stephen Michael and Maurice.
Sublime skill. Left or right foot or hand.A magnificent torpedo pass.Great over head skill, he could jump. Had a good a step as Maurice.Coulkd win games off his own boot in a quarter.
The story goes one day against Claremont he kicked 7 to half time. He went missing, Brownie asked where Benny was. In the shower someone responded. Brownie went in and asked what he was doing. Benny said, I am done, I have won the game for you. Up to the others to win it from here.
Got changed and that was the game.

I was at the old Booragoon hotel (RIP) one night and there was an almighty kerfuffle.

One bloke was taking on about 4 bouncers and yelling and screaming like a banshee.

They eventually overcome him and kicked him out.

I asked one of the bouncers I knew who that bloke was.

He said he was a footballer who had come from Richmond to play for South Fremantle and that he was mad and had previously already been barred from there.

This was pre season and his name was Mark Jackson :D

Reckon they'll package it up to get to one of gc higher picks who will want points instead

No they are not:
pick 1
pick 2-8 (Allen compo)
2 × FRPs (Reid)
Bonus highly touted NGA first round pick

Great way to start a rebuild with 4 high first round picks + free NGA. I want them to endure what we had to. Hopefully they trade in Warner using the Reid capital lol.

Mal Brown set up the fight fully aware of Maurice's abilities. He did it to bring Jackson down a notch and build Rioli's leadership credentials. He was a master coach despite the veneer of buffoonery.

Anyone remember the boxing match between Jacko and Mal Maninga?Didn't last long
