Vic Metro squad announced. Unless we are given NGA concessions there’s not much practical point looking at who we can draft after our 2R pick (currently 19).

Other than the names always mentioned Kneipp, Dalton and then Arki Butler for next year would be worth keeping an eye on. Kneipp and Dalton are likely to fall between the Hawks 1R and our 2R.

Arki Butler very good player

Thrillem continues to put up big numbers and influence games for his Gippsland Power team. Here we again saw issues with his disposal effectiveness at times, but its one of very few weaknesses in his game. His combination of size, speed and reaction times around congestion allows him to swoop on loose balls rapidly or close space quickly to apply pressure. With his team trailing entering the fourth quarter Willem lifted and was a significant factor in helping the power surge to victory.

I’m a big fan. Anything about his game from seeing him live you can add to what we can observe online? Looking forward to seeing him when Vic metro visit.
I've only seen a bit of Arki too date, but he came with big wraps for a friend who is at Brighton Grammar. He was playing first 18 in year 9, and he was big on him.

He just looks naturally talented footballer.

Thought it worth posting an updated Age by position grid.

My main updates were to sort out some of the utilities/mids. Duggan has shown that he is a defender and not a mid. Meanwhile, Hough is showing he is a legitimate option in midfield and Gross proving he has the midfield qualities. The run of Hewett staying on the park is pleasing and I see him playing mid/forward. We really need Shuey to help him develop his game. At times on Sunday, he looked good but at times needs to work on his defensive side of stoppages.

Our list weakness has been the cupboard being bare or inside and balanced mids. In terms of outside mids, I suspect Davis will grow into that role, HJ is also decent depth and I expect Charlie Banfield will come into that space.

Question is on ruck and KPD. Archer Reid would be an answer to either. Barnett will be lucky to stay on the list. Will we need Cody Curtin or have we enough talls?

Watching the elite ball use of Wanganeen-Milera on Sunday, I am starting to want the Port pick that the Suns own for Lindsay. They are not the same player but their elite kicking and ability to take on the centre corridor fill a similar role.

I make it 16 players out of contract (written in red). In addition there is the need to extend Harley this year. Matty Clarke is going to be damned busy.

Fantastic work.
Totally agree with your list analysis.
Sharp/Lindsay/Rodriguez would be a massive get if we can land 2 of them.

Our KPD is the list need hole that needs to be filled this year also.
Not much on the trade pile unless there is a big offer for Z Reid from us or Busslinger is seen as a viable option?
Still need our next draftee in that space, Edwards and Brock will end up ok, 1 will be surpassed quickly with a better talent imo.
KPD players don't need to be high picks, they just need to be high quality players of the right size and upside.
Is Curtin that player? Going to be a big year for him.

I would be happy to find the diamond who missed out in 2024 in Dennis or Strumpf if they progress this year.
WC have a decent type coming in 2026 in NGA D Shanahan who is already 194cm, who is already playing colts as an underager so has some decent talent?

I liked Nye's game but he is very small. Felt like more of a genuine effort player than classy or prolific.

Nairn is an interesting player too. Also quite thin but that can be worked on obviously. Doesn't appear to be the kind of player we need.

Not surprised Cumming got named best. Very classy, but also a good size and good defensively.

Sharp is a star.

LeRay and Daw were interesting players. Not sold either way based on the game, very tweener but also did some nice things.

Sharp just seems perfect for us. We have to focus on what he is elite at compared to his stuff he has to work on.

I think it a high chance we have 3 picks with 5. He is ours if we wish.

1- Sharp
2- Duursma/Lindsay
3- Grlj/Rodriguez
+ Evans and Walley and maybe Banifield but would like to see a strong carnival out of him, looked really good in the futures game last year but numbers are down this year at colts level.

First round pick + Kehn + H Banifield + Mcgalde + Shanahan?

Brings so much optimism to the club next year or 2.

This was NHH's first game back after an extended break with a shoulder injury and he put together a strong performance through three quarters before fading out in the fourth, clearly short of full match fitness. He played exclusively forward, and mostly out of the goal square as a marking target with only a couple of ventures outside of the 50. He kicked 4 goals through three quarters and looked lively whenever the footy was in his area, helping his team to a comfortable lead which they held all game.

Ok with the Gov news who is the best intercept mark key defender in this year’s draft pool?

KPD depth is very skinny on our list if Gov has to retire.

So Duursma continues to rise in pick 1 conversations.

Halrley to make a call later this year.

Feel the strategy may well be draft Duursma at pick 1 which is fine.

Trade in Harley's GF on good money.

Pick up either Sharp or Rodregez.

Harley, Hewett, Duursma and Rodrigez are our future midfield high end talent.

If we can come away with two of Dursma, Sharp, Rodriguez and then Curtin with the Hawks pick, you'd think we'd be pretty happy.

With the NGA, F/S to come over this year and next you're rounding out the team nicely, would just need to find a long term solution for the ruck.

Can we interest you in Dean Sarcy…has great potential…mature body…natural tap ruckman?

In Freo's NGA by this...

Charlie Banfield, Wes Walley and Tylah Williams all named in the squad. As is Koby Evans despite his back injury likely to rule him out for the champs

Other two other NGAs this year Jake Caton and Darcy Montgomery have missed out though

Garrison Kenh named in the squad as an under ager with our other 2026 NGAs - Robert Farmer, Lachlan McGlade and David Shanahan - all listed as train on players.

Harper Banfield (2026 F/S) not included in the train ons, however Koby Lecras (Mark’s nephew) has been included

So Parfitt has nominated for the MSD.

Need to put one or two of Sheed, Chesser or Gov on the LTIL.

One I can see.

Two.......a stretch?

What's the deadline for list lodgement for the MSD?
