Plenty to like, namely that I’ve got my whole weekend ahead of me.

Shanahan is great. Giants song is the best song in the league to have to hear twice. Great day at the footy, really.

But yes, an enormous step back, both in structure and workrate. Good times.

Shanahan really good. Ginbey keeps developing into an elite defensive player. Reid tried?

Most of the rest can get in the bin. Decided not to rock up, for the umpteenth time.

Positives:
  • Shanahan
  • Ginbey solid and now consistently our most reliable already.
  • Champion came on and got involved
  • Harley tried hard
  • BBW was serviceable
Edit: - Ryan positive. He couldn't get much done but he tried all game with a guy twice his size covering him at every turn.

Negatives:
- pretty much everyone else. Special mention to Duggan's turnovers and TK going missing after qtr time.

Yeah really low effort game but Shanahan looks like he could become a very effective centre half forward and looks like he'd combine well with snake. Ginbey looks like the next best half back in the league. I feel like the eagles are missing one more dangerous small forward. Brockman just can't push his influence enough and Ryan is just getting so much attention. Having one more dangerous forward would have really helped us capitalise when we lock it in the forward 50 like we did at times in the second.

Actually, Duggan and Kelly deserve a second post here.

Duggan has some of the worst decision-making for an AFL player. That manifests itself in either just trying to kick it on as quick as he can, usually directly to an opponent, or dumb kicks across goal in the D50. It boggles the mind.

TK was bad early when he got the ball, slowing down play like it's 2021 again. Then goes invisible. I don't even recall him doing anything of value after maybe half time. His touches after HT must've just been quick ones part of chains because he was like a ninja and nowhere to be seen.

/melt.

As good as he was around the ground tonight, we really need to get a better ruck option than Flynn. They scored so many goals from Centre clearances tonight. They just destroy us because every ruck who plays against Flynn has the best game statistically of their career.
Bailey was better when he was in there, J. Williams was better when he was up against the ruck, even Archer would do a better job. If you want to play Flynn in the back line to help take some marks and secure up the back line, go ahead but he’s not a Ruckman‘s arseh*le.

+
  • Shanahan
  • Ginbey

- The turnovers. Simply unacceptable.

Duggan, Reid, Hewett, simply have to be better with ball in hand.

- Harley’s gonna get baked in the media for starting shit with Tom Green, then flopping when he copped it back. Love the kid but he doesn’t help himself when he does shit like that.

- That umpiring, boy oh boy. Didn’t affect the result but **** me they didn’t need any extra help.

Tim Kelly's face looks like mine walking into work on Monday morning, only his is like that constantly where as mine gradually improves the more coffee I take in. The bloke just doesn't want to be out there and it shows

Nothing to take from that really. Giants were very good and we were completely hopeless.

As long as that doesn't become the standard I'm ok with writing that off as a mulligan, but at 1-15 and with a young team things could get very ugly from here.

This list is still miles away; midfield is a complete non-entity, and we desperately need more quality smalls in the forward half.

Duggan as captain is turning into a real problem.

Positives +
  • Shanahan can hold his head high. Our future CHF, I can't wait to see him and Snake next season.
  • Bailey was decent.
  • Hough consistently great as always.
  • Ginbey looking elite.
  • Key defenders, Brock and Edwards tried.

Negatives -
  • Skill errors.
  • Duggan, nuff said.
  • Kelly going missing at times.

Just a woeful effort riddled with people who looked so far off AFL standard its not funny. There's some decent kids who put in an effort and so so much trash.

Some players have a bogey opponent that for whatever reason they just can't match up on and get thrashed every time they play. Matt Flynn has a similar issue except his bogey opponent is called literally every ruckman who plays for every other team in the AFL. Every single one of them utterly smashes him every single time they play him.
