In what substantial way does Long not match Dawson’s athletic profile? No you don’t. Long doesn’t match Dawson’s athletic profile, Pendles never matched Cripps’, and Frampton doesn’t match Thilthorpe - yet all have been effective in direct nullifying roles previously.
Not much room to move. Given it’s expected we will take our 3 nga playersWe are eerily quiet

I like Wilkie!Jordan butts or cal wilkie
Good pointsNot much room to move. Given it’s expected we will take our 3 nga players
5 senior players OOC including Jamie and checkers
Johnson is also a rookie. Will need to put reef and HH back on the list
Could be a quiet one

On the rookie list Howes (if retained) and Steele would replace Johnson and MarkovGood points
I can’t see Johnson, mitchell, markov mcrae being retained though
Howes 50/50.
It is tight
The 3 nga’s look good, HH is going to be a good player
Reef a versatile swingman
I really think bobby will go home to his kids.
Hos elliot has retired
So we will have a couple of spots
I don’t know how they manage it all tbh
I’d be keeping coxOn the rookie list Howes (if retained) and Steele would replace Johnson and Markov
But we would still be over so Dean would go too. Leaving 1 rookie spot (current rookie list- long, smit, Markov, Dean, Howes, Steele, Johnson)
Reef replaces WHE, Cox, Mitchell and fin replace HH plus 3 draftees
Gonna be tight
I’d be keeping cox
Frustrating if Butts has chosen North over us (I hope we asked the question) but I guess they have the money.
Should have been an easy sell:
“Hey Jordan, you want to win finals at Adelaide oval? Then come on over”
It will TD. But if he’s willing I’d keep him. Can’t go into next season with only Cameron. Especially with flagged ruck changesDepends who/IF we Recruit any other Mature age Rucks or now
When Reef returns we'll be in better shape than we were once Reef did his knee. It'll be Reef for Dean and an improved Frampton. However, I'm not sure how list mmt works - they may have a set number of KPDs they go with at the start of the year - in which case we'll find a replacement for Dean - assuming he's delisted. Are we in bad shape if we don’t add one? A returning Reef alongside Moore, Howe, Frampton and maybe Howes as a flex option seems enough to me for 2026. Yes there’s some urgency for 2027 if it turns out Reef isn’t up to it alongside a looming Howe retirement, but Frampton’s emergence has lessened the need to add one, IMO.
Could try the DFA from rich as depth. But it’s depth only we’d probably need which is hard to manage. I’d be fine grabbing jones on a 1 year. Can teach the kids and play if required. If we have the available list spot would be good depthI’d be keeping cox
Any inklings on Howes Jen? I think he’s shown enough traits to get an extensionIf we have the available list spot would be good depth

It’s hard to get a read but they could extend him and can change his position to a defender to replace DeanAny inklings on Howes Jen? I think he’s shown enough traits to get an extension

He has some promising traits
Especially given we have McCarthy and west to come back next year
And if we have all 3 forward it might feel too top heavy?
I've got no idea what's around, but in terms of depth players, I'd go younger - 24 year old state leaguer/dfa who we think might be able to become more than depth in the future. I assume you mean Blight from Richmond? He might fit that bill - I've never watched him.Could try the DFA from rich as depth. But it’s depth only we’d probably need which is hard to manage. Reef is completely unproven as a defender at this point in time. We may be better off or we may not be. He hasn't played a single game in the AFL as a defender yet. When Reef returns we'll be in better shape than we were once Reef did his knee. It'll be Reef for Dean and an improved Frampton. He was looking great in pre season, the club had high hopes for him coming into this year. He looked alright in defence before the ACL. At the end of this season we can put the Charlie Dean experiment to bed. He was lauded as a great defender and "injuries kept him from reaching his potential early on". Kid is simply no good at the level. Has had plenty of chances. With Chooka, Moore, Howe, Maynard, Daicos, IQ that group has proven across the year to be the best defence in the comp. Reef is good depth. Next year will have an extra on the bench, no sub so thats fine for the defence.Reef is completely unproven as a defender at this point in time.
