This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Time to trade him

I dont blame the current administration for the issues the club currently has its like walking into a job that was left in disarray from the last person who had the job and this has plagued Zacs career with us

This club needs a rebuild the wheels are already in motion for one from the last two offseasons and i think supporters sometimes think with there emotions rather then whats best for the club e.g Dont give Merrett to the Hawks there our rivals

my view is its best to trade him and i believe you guys currently are the best to get the deal done with but at the end of the day regardless this isnt the NBA the player controls where he goes
I agree that we have the most to offer out of potential suiters but you'll find that we will probably only offer a touch more than other potential clubs could and not empty the gun.

Trying to take an objective view:
  • the only way the meeting gets leaked is by Zach's management
  • the only reason they would do that is because he wants out (it can't be for more cash or a longer deal at essendon because the reputational hit to him and the club is too great to walk back)
  • others will come for him now or are already in the mix
  • we need to be his preferred - $$$$, tenure, premiership window and gaping midfield need should be enough to get him over the line (if it hasn't already)
  • the bombers for all their theatrics and media cheerleaders will need to deal with us - it will come down to the last 5 mins of trade period but will get done for 2x1sts
We all know what we are in for having to do a trade with Essendon, they are the absolute worst.

They always want to be seen to "win" with trades, it's like an obsession with them (especially when having to trade their captain to the Hawks!)

If Merrett was a Hawthorn player, Whateley's views would be different. His opinion is such because he does not want a gun player going to Hawthorn. And Bucks embarrassed him. But he will persist.
I wonder if Gaz will exhibit the same common sense as Bucks if Whateley repeats his nonsense on 360 tonight.

I suspect Gaz won't but Horse and Simmo will 100% back in Bucks' perspective if they're given a chance to express their views on the matter.

Is that an essendon thing, or was that a Dodoro thing?

Zach is gooooone. There's no going back when the father of one of the players on the list openly says this on social media.

Correction this is not his father. BIGHAWK23 thinks it might be his uncle <insert spaceballs gif>

Article this morning mentioned clubs have enquired about Sam Butler.

He was best 22 in a finals win on Saturday.

Our first pick, a future first, Butler and Hustwaite
For
Merrett, a future third and future 4th?

Henry is likely gone anyway.
I wouldn't want Sam to go, and he may not either, but if we recruit Merrett and retain Mackenzie it will mean he will constantly be fighting for a spot, since he likely isn't going to overtake Croc, Moore, Wattto or Ginni as a smaller forward outright.

I really hope Butler stays. I think there is more upside with him than we have seen yet.

Public service announcement. For anyone confused. Sadly I’m not really Isaac Kakos father even though I’m old enough to be and would love to be was a bit of light hearted fun. Won’t be changing my name anytime soon. I’m easily Kako’s biggest fan #10 go bombers

I agree, seems like its the best thing for both parties. What do you think is fair value for him?

Look i will admit i understand the view of both sides and from all reports Hawks are actually a really good team to trade with and lucky for us Dodoro isnt a around anymore so a deal would realistically get done

Unaware if i am being unrealistic or not but i think your Blues pick and a F1 would be fair due as your pick next year would be 16-18 your a good club now so i can only imagine your midfield potential with Merrett and a healthy Will Day will be like so i reckon your F1 will easily be in the teens

if not that maybe blues pick plus worpel compo?

We will be bold and we just happen to also be in a situation that we have more currency than you normally would have in our situation so could outbid a few clubs without it hurting too much.

Not referring to you or all fans but there will be some that won't be happy unless it hurts Hawthorn as much as it's going to hurt the Dons.

Appreciate the level headed discussion mate.

We have the following;
Pick 8, Pick 26, Future 1st, Future 2nd
Worpel compo

Reeves, Serong, Hustwaite would be starting 22 for a lot of teams, and its unlikely they'll remain after the trade period.

Do you think Worpel comp, Future 1st and one of those players gets close to satisfying Essendon? I assume Reeves would be a great fit, but we'd likely only be getting a 2nd-3rd round pick in a trade as he will ask to go no doubt.

Sadly lots of our fans have an entitled way of thinking and its one of the reasons we are so bad

I am from a generation of growing up and only knowing the club as a basket case but still have patience i believe most of our entitled fans come from an era when we were actually a good ran football club so its hard for them to accept taking steps back to take steps forward
