2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

This post gives me weak - anti competition let’s all be friends and hold hands vibes.

He wanted more cash and another club in a far different position were willing to honour that so he went. It’s all good but not exactly a club legend with one decent year despite many years of promise, and now he plays for a side I don’t particularly like.
Given our club more service than most. You know, wishing ill on someone because they are an opponent is not pro-competition - that’s weak.

In amongst the rollercoaster of emotions about how we all feel about Matt Clarke, noones really tipped their cap to his decision not to pony up for Oscar and retain him. There's an argument it's good for the culture to continue being the good guys who don't lose players but in terms of building us a list to not be so putridly dog shit in years to come, this was an astute bit of business.

Hindsight says we should have let go of traded some players after 2019/20 to help the rebuild but missed the chance. This feels like a great result and a clear change in decision making.

Ryan is worth an early-mid second rounder this year which would be handy
Ryan and pick 34 for pick 19 (ex Geelong) from St Kilda (pick for Marshall trade). Values Ryan at pick 31
Pick 12 and 19 for pick 7 and 36 from Suns
Melbourne get picks 8 and 12 for Petracca trade to Suns 🌞

100%

Although I dont think there's any longer an argument that its "good for culture" to let players expect to be looked after without performance. One of our biggest errors in dropping our standards

And one of the biggest changes to our "culture" has barely been recognised

Oh you’re a goose aren’t you? I clearly said the worst I wished upon him leaving is ill form.

If you want to see him contribute to the Lions next flag push that’s your prerogative, but in these specific circumstances you seem to be struggling to grasp the very nature of competitive sport

I don't begrudge Oscar leaving. In fact, I think it's pretty clear we gave him the nudge to look around and move on, given it was going to be in our better interest to secure pick 2. If we wanted to bid the same contract as Brisbane, he probably wouldn't be leaving.

Bottom line is, he hasn't been able to get his body right, and his time as Captain of the club coincides with the lowest ebb in our history. Now that's not all on him, but as a leader, he probably has to look himself in the mirror and figure out how he can do better in Brisbane. He won't be in the spotlight anywhere near like he was here, and he'll be scrutinised for his performance but it won't matter if Brisbane are winning.

He missed out on a Premiership with us, so I wish him success in his next role. He's not a bad person, and he was a good soldier for us, but the time is right for both parties to move on. We need fresh blood in the leadership group, and for the young blokes to take a stand now and take ownership of this team and where it is going.

We took Jobe Shanahan with our second pick then a week after the draft the West Australian ran a story about Oz having a degenerative knee and that contract talks have stalled...it was only ever going one way after that unless Oz wanted to bet on himself and body and take the apparent 'low ball' offer that had many triggers and incentives in it to re-sign, according to Ryan Daniels.

If we say the rebuild started proper with the 2022 season and trade period, then over the first three years of our rebuild we added 8 players in the top 30 divided up like this:
  • 1x Top 5
  • 1x Top 10
  • 2x top 20
  • 4x Top 30
After this trade period that will be, 11 players in the top 30 divided up like this:
  • 3x Top 5
  • 1x Top 10
  • 3x top 20
  • 4x Top 30
Depending on how things go in the next few days, it’s possible we’ll add another top 10 pick at the expense of a top 20 (pick 12).

Then counting chickens waaaaaay too early… add another top 5 pick next year and potentially another top 20 in Kenh, that will be 13 players in the top 30, divided up like this:
  • 4x Top 5
  • 1x Top 10
  • 4x top 20
  • 4x Top 30
Starts looking like a proper list rejuvenation.

What are our thoughts on Jed Walter currently not getting a game at gold coast? If JuH makes it to the gold coast could we potentially trade for Jed? He's got a year to run on his contract so we could just wait.
Risk is that he plays a lot more next season and won't want to leave/will cost a lot more.
If we are interested, probably some merit in sounding him out now.

That doesn't fit in with the narrative that Clarke is the worst thing to ever happen to this football club which seems to have permeated through this board in the last few weeks.

Clarke just landed our #1 recruit whilst also simultaneously upgrading some picks in the 20's to pick 12, yet that's still a failure in the eyes of some on here somehow.

Well trade radio have already announced us as wooden spooners for next year and wondering if we get comp next year… there is just no way with a good injury run we win one game or finish last.
Richmond, Essendon, Melbourne, Carlton. At least one of them will finish below us.

Yes. He coughed up #3 last year. NOT a throwaway line. Have you seen me anywhere complaining about yesterday's trade. Well stfu, then.
So if someone makes a mistake, they're incompetent?
Why? I’d love him to kick 60 goals and win us games…
Still won’t change my mind about him and where he sat before his good year.
Would you really though?

Just wait until next year.
We don't need another KPF just yet, 7 years younger than Waterman and probably a successor if he wanted to come then.

Clark has done really well. Now to get Dev and some good pics for Chesser and Ryan and we will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Among other tidbits, Ralph saying we won’t be using 33 (now 34) for Young but have a plan to bring him in

I'm happy if we scrap this free agency/compo crap and make it all trades. Just keep delisted players can be for free, the rest you have to trade.

Now that OA and Starc are sorted - what do we expect to receive for Liam Ryan?
Saints first pick is 50, and we would spew up if that was genuinely offered.

Surely its a F2 or we just don't trade him?

Package multi club deal or bank some 2026 picks.

Ryan and pick 34 for pick 19 (ex Geelong) from St Kilda (pick for Marshall trade). Values Ryan at pick 31
Pick 12 and 19 for pick 7 and 36 from Suns

Would be ok with the first part but would prefer 4 top 25 than 3 top 10 and nothing else

Surely just 3. We're getting tight on main list spots. Hard to make room for 4, plus Young, plus T Williams and Banfield if bids arrive (which I think they will).
Agree, we can move a player to the rookie draft if we feel we have a player of better quality in this draft in our sites.

Astute business is a euphemistic way to describe the most blindingly obvious decision of the 2025 trade period

Not even Matty Clarke could have stuffed that one up
