Quick Links

List Changes - 2025
In:
  • Brandon Starcevich arrives at West Coast in a three team deal
  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane
Out:
  • Oscar Allen joins Brisbane as a FA - West Coast receive Pick 2 as compensation
  • Liam Ryan and a 2027 R3 pick has been traded to St Kilda for a 2026 R2 pick
  • Campbell Chesser has been traded to Carlton for Pick 41

  • Coen Livingstone joins the list of players not offered a new contract

Players Out of Contract - 2025 (0)

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I feel a bit for him - I suspect his desire would have been to play on with the club he grew up supporting, but he'd be very aware of his body's limitations, and that his best bet for his future was to take up Brisbane on their offer. The move might be the change that he needs, but it's certainly the one that gives him the most personal certainty.

Hope if Brissie go the threepeat he's one of the players out there getting a medal.
Am good with all that, except the last sentence. He's now officially the oppo! I liked the Lions after the GF, but of course won't be supporting them from here on in, nor Oscar.
But interested to see how he pans out in the maroon. If he's a bust, we did very well with pick #2. (we did very well regardless)

In amongst the rollercoaster of emotions about how we all feel about Matt Clarke, noones really tipped their cap to his decision not to pony up for Oscar and retain him. There's an argument it's good for the culture to continue being the good guys who don't lose players but in terms of building us a list to not be so putridly dog shit in years to come, this was an astute bit of business.

100%. Bravo West Coast in a tricky situation involving a current captain to stand firm on what’s best for our future. Second line as below is 🔥

Risk is that he plays a lot more next season and won't want to leave/will cost a lot more.
If we are interested, probably some merit in sounding him out now.
Yeah I was thinking that. We'd want to get him this trade period while he's thinking "how am I going to get a game in front of JuH" before he has another pre-season to mature and starts improving.

This post gives me weak - anti competition let’s all be friends and hold hands vibes.

He wanted more cash and another club in a far different position were willing to honour that so he went. It’s all good but not exactly a club legend with one decent year despite many years of promise, and now he plays for a side I don’t particularly like.
Luckily most people don't hold grudges like this.

It's why, at the 2005 GF, the Eagles section of the crowd gave a cheer for Jason Ball when he got his medal.

Hahaha completely different set of circumstances. Was approached by the Swans at the tail end of a finals year. Seeing as though we are talking history I do thank Bally for the pick that netted us one Darren Glass.

Let’s see how we go with pick 2 ✌🏻

I wonder how Brissie fans will feel the first time Oscar takes one of his trademark towering marks and then ploughs head-first into the ground?

I must say, I don't think I'm going to miss those heart in the mouth moments.

Can a mathematician see if this works for GC to still match Uwland and Patterson?

WCE Get: Pick 7, 8
WCE Give: Pick 2, 34, 38, No Bid @ 1

GC Get: Petracca, Pick 24, 28, 38
GC Give: Pick 7, 8

Melbourne Get: Pick 2, 34
Melbourne Give: Petracca, Pick 24, 28, No Bid @ 2

A few assumptions:
  • Big gap between Duursma, CDT and rest of draft cohort (per Twomey)
  • Melbourne being very keen on CDT (makes sense on paper)
  • Aggresive pick trading is something Melbourne have tried many times in the past

It's close... leaves them about 200 points short of matching bids at 3/4 with picks 15, 18, 24, 28, 36 and 38.

Could be solved with other player trades. Or with a trade for 15 by North Melbourne with 25/26/46.

Astute business is a euphemistic way to describe the most blindingly obvious decision of the 2025 trade period

Not even Matty Clarke could have stuffed that one up

Nah that is unfair.

He's the List Manager - while he might have trade period once a year where he is front and centre, most of his role involves the contracts of the 40+ guys already on the list.

This time last year, we would have all expected Oscar to be retained as an absolute lock. We laughed at Matthew Lloyd (I think) suggesting we trade him for picks...but when Oscar and his people went to market and had 5 year + big money contracts on the table, fhe club had to make a decision whether or not to offer something in that ball park and retain him, our captain, 'the chosen one' etc - and it was decided they weren't going to do that and let him go. Not a light decision I would imagine within the club but a ballsy list management call for a club on it's knees and as List Manager, Clarke deserves some credit in that regard - for better or worse. We are yet to see the impact this may have future player retention.

Players like Oscar and their status within the group are usually considered a must keep - whether they are netting a high draft pick or not - it's not a common occurrence for any club to let their skipper walk and it was an active decision by the club to do that.

Being happy to lose our captain because we get pick 2 in return wreaks of loser-dom. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with the decision under the circumstances. But I hope we never go through this again. Strong clubs don't let their captain's walk out the door, then cheer about it.
What are you talking about? Duggan's still at WCE.

We're not cheering , would rather a fit and firing Oscar Allen BUT it was an average 12 months, pick 2 soothes the disappointment.

Agreed. It's been a grim time - hugely disappointing way that this played out.

I don't think anyone is particularly happy with anything in the last 12 months but it's a pretty good return.
