Being happy to lose our captain because we get pick 2 in return wreaks of loser-dom. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with the decision under the circumstances. But I hope we never go through this again. Strong clubs don't let their captain's walk out the door, then cheer about it.
What are you on about?
Brisbane offered him a longer contract then we were prepared to offer.
We were meant to match simply because he's the captain?
He's injury prone with 1 good season and spoke to other clubs because he didn't like our contract offer.
The old regime would've been easily pressured to offer him a longer contract because they were petrified of losing him. How is that the better alternative? They even offered to extend NN despite him no longer able to play.

Totally agree that wishing him ill will is going too far, but he wanted out and we received similar compensation to other clubs based on ladder position. There's nothing wrong with being happy with pick 2 because of the FA compensation system that was put in place by the league and has benefited other teams. We are struggling and need all the help we can get.

We gave him a fair offer. We have learnt from the simmo era about giving out long contracts to injury prone players. He had a better offer and made it clear that he wanted to leave unless we matched Brisbane's offer. We said we wont given his injuries. In the end both parties benefited out of the trade. I think it was amicable most people wish him the best in the future. It's unfortunate that he was our captain at the time. It is what it is. Time to move on.

Perhaps if it was in the context of an inspiring captain and high performing player. In the context of Oscar’s value on himself and pick 2 in a rebuild it’s great by the club to hold strong on it and a good example of club coming before player. Something West Coast haven’t always handled with the same poise

Let’s not pretend he was a particularly good captain.

Articulate speaker but that’s about it - I’d be surprised if he was anywhere near the Brisbane leadership group

So are you hearing upgrade or 4 top 10 picks?

Still want to deal with GC and 2 is certainly up for discussion.

One is as well if the offer is too good to refuse but I do believe the club view Duursma as a player to take.

But Duggan is listed as captain and that hasn't changed.

I'd move on on these things. I don't think leadership was Allen's very high attribute, which is OK, but he ain't Darren glass.

Are their any good ruck's in this draft? I know Marshall is linked with Geelong but given Ryan wants to go to saints maybe we could make something happen?

Also what are getting for Chesser and what are we giving for Young? I heard we aren't giving 34 for young?

When fit, Allen gave his all and was a legit weapon.
The whole club has looked depressed and disinterested for years so I don't know how much blame he should wear.
Brisbane are trading on their reputation to get blokes fit and on the paddock. If they get Allen right we'll soon be reminded how good he can be.

I am ok with players leaving the club, I just hope they never win a premiership at their new club.
Could be worse. Could be Lachie Neale leaving the flagless Freo, then going on to win two Browlow medals and two flags.

Boy that must be a sore point for em.

Is Jack Billings any good? He was decent at St Kilda wasn't he? Hes a de-listed free agent

Look at the top sides and tell me how much rucks matter to success? At this stage of our build it’s not an issue unless one with the right age profile nominates us in free agency. Can look at adding that later in our evolution

I think you misunderstand my point. Oscar wanted the best deal, Brisbane offered it. That's business. But Brisbane are celebrating back-to-back premierships, and somehow managed to snag our captain and Essendon's ruck. Those ****ers would be laughing their arses off. Meanwhile, the only thing we're celebrating is that we have early picks in a shallow draft.

Our cupboard is bare.

Unless we pull off an absolute miracle in the trade period, next season is gonna be grim. Because there's no Harley Reid in the draft this year and I can't see CDT making us immediately better next year.

We're not cheering , would rather a fit and firing Oscar Allen BUT it was an average 12 months, pick 2 soothes the disappointment.

Sure does.

Possibly could have shown a bit more decorum and respect for our Captain (LOL), by taking our full 72 hours to decide, rather than thinking we were the auctioneer and the AFL had just offered pick 2 for Lot number 12

Like I know CDT is a decentish ruck but he's not the best contested mark.

I wonder how Brissie fans will feel the first time Oscar takes one of his trademark towering marks and then ploughs head-first into the ground?

I must say, I don't think I'm going to miss those heart in the mouth moments.

Heart in mouth when Oscar goes for a flying mark over Starcevich's head.
