2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I don't really care about the FF3, but losing Ryan and getting nothing but a futures pick back is a bit bleh.

Understand there's an apparent premium for future picks, but there's only so long we can kick the can down the road. Would've been nice to see something help us improve NOW.

Our forward stocks are all sorts of pathetic now. Cripps is basically 50. Then there's Owies who's got no business even being on an AFL list. Champion is a bit of a work in progress. I like Newton but he's a scrapheap pick.

Probably makes getting Dovaston in the draft more important now.
Making big moves to improve the team immediately makes sense when you're where St Kilda is, just outside finals but with enough talent to jump up next year. We won one match next year; why is there any urgency? The goal should be to build for long-term success, not to try to squeeze out an extra win next year.

People complaining about it being a future pick and not this one appear to not understand that were likely only going into the draft with 3 live picks, most likely in the top 10, with the others to match bids on Williams, Banfield and Evans.

Another 2nd rounder this year is worthless if we can already use what we currently have to trade up for one of GC's top 10 picks.

And it's also a shallow draft.

Gives us a good hand next year to attack to draft again and another year work out what type of players we need to target. Warner as a FA in the tassie draft after that plus 1st & 2nd Rounder.

6 list spots assuming Chesser leaves.

Young takes one.
Dev hopefully we rookie list, so we go into the draft with five available.

That leaves our three top 13 (hopefully top 7) picks.

A matching bid for Williams.

And one up our sleeve to either match/draft any of the WA boys as needed while preserving rookie list space for the others/keep Cripps/sign Dev if main list is required.

Another pick in the 20/30s does nothing for us this draft, beyond points which we already have well in hand. It would evaporate for no benefit whatsoever.

F2 is a great bit of business.

Our F3 will be a 10-14 pick upgrade on St Kilda’s F2 even with Tassie.

Ryan was contracted, any half decent list manager would’ve not had to include our F3.

The 2027 3rd will be about pick 65+. Tassie getting 11 or 12 draft picks ahead of our 2027 3rd.

Any half decent bed wetter doesn't even get out of bed for blowing pick 65.

So pick 25ish v pick 65.

Wetters gotta wet......

A R1,R2,R3,R4…

Now we have an extra R2 pick that will come in useful for another (hopefully top 30 pick) or to match a bid on one of our NGA players/Harper Banfield

We didn’t need another pick this year
And we get worse whilst ryan is running around for stkilda making them better

hoping we still move barnett to RL. id like the flexibility to match bids for all 3 of evans, BB and TW.
Wes walley if he gets bid on, so be it.

would be a shame to miss on any of the top 3 and whilst evans may be unlikely to bid on, not interested in taking the risk.

Personally I'm tired of our club being a pathetic joke.

I've got loser fatigue and I'd like to see some proper improvement. It's been several years of this rubbish, there's only so long you can be awful for. We need to turn the boat around.

Sitting at the bottom and collecting draft picks isn't my scene. 18th, 16th, 18th, 17th over the last 4 years.

I'm hopeful the other acquisitions will help, but losing a best 22 player and AA like Ryan isn't something to just be shrugged off.

You do realise if we slightly lose every trade we do by the end of trade week it adds up .

You’re not much of a big picture operator are you?

“You can have something irrelevant now, or something valuable later.”

“BUT I WANT SOMETHING NOW.”

A second rounder the Saints don’t have and that we won’t use is not a good return. I don’t think Liam Ryan is the difference between us making the Grand Final or not this year mate.

reality is ryan moving on was for the best. I love flyin' but he was cruising in the wings. i dont think hes built for a rebuld.
putting time in his successor is important as is the list spot his departure leaves.
Who is his successor? Owies 🤣

Saints no longer want Leek Aleer. Don't want to pay a F2 for him. But how about Liam Ryan?

WCE gives: Liam Ryan
WCE receives: Leek Aleer

St Kilda gives: F2
St Kilda receives: Liam Ryan

GWS gives: Leek Aleer
GWS receives: St Kilda F2

Who says no?

Can't take the chance one of the SA clubs doesn't take him and i don't want him to be our first selection in the rookie draft.

We ask Cripps to take one for the team, no one is going to pick up Cripps and expect him to move to the other side of the country at 33 years old.

Yep just kick the can down the road when we won 1 game . Second year in a row we lose a good contracted senior player for future picks .

Barrass would have been a huge help this year and I bet we sit back next year thinking we really need an x factor forward who can actually kick it our forwards .

Saints f2 will be swallowed by bidding probably so no real meaningful net gain

We should have told st money bags to give us Boxhall or gtfo
Straight swap a 19 year old who just signed a 3 year contract extension with a 29 year old Liam Ryan with 1 year left on his contract and even less on his hamstrings?

Ok.

Do you think he was going to leave next year under free agency and if so what do you think we would have gotten for a 30 year old on middle of the road money with a 2-3 year deal?
