Collingwood’s hunt for midfield reinforcement has led them to North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin.

The Magpies had expressed interest in Melbourne onballer Clayton Oliver, but have now set their sights on Simpkin, who this masthead revealed last month was unhappy with his midfield timeafter finishing the season in a wing role.

Oliver is yet to lodge an official trade request or nominate the Giants, but seems likely to do that in the days ahead.

Simpkin is contracted until the end of the 2029 season, so it would likely take a strong first-round pick to convince the Kangaroos to part with him.
Next minute, Brady, “Yeah look pick 39 was the highest pick the Pies had and we’ll look to get something back from Collingwood in the coming years, I’m sure. Look we weren’t wrapt that we are also paying half of Jy’s wage, but again, we try and be fair with our dealings, it’s a small industry”.

Ed Allan with a F1?

I think they are unlikely to give up a F1 without getting something significant in return or us taking on a good portion of the salary. I can’t see a deal getting done.

I like Ed Allan but I think I’d prefer Harvey Harrison who would slot perfectly in the Wing/HF role.

With bids coming for McCartney and Harris next year maybe a deal could like like

North: Jy Simpkin, 2026 F2, 2027 F4

Collingwood: Harvey Harrison, 2027 F1, 2026 F3

2026 R1
2027 R2

Is what I'd be asking.

We will get overs on the trade value if we allow Collingwood to push it that far out, it's also likely to coincide with Collingwood dropping.

If Tassies first draft wasn't 2027, I'd actually want a 2026 R2 and 2027 R1 in a normal scenario here.

This deal will be interesting on a few fronts.

Do Snoz and Clarko want instant trade value? As 2027 is unlikely to involve either of them imo.

Even if you did 2026 R1 and 2027 R1 both picks are likely to end up in the twenties on draft night with academies and father sons.

The game is cooked

2027 r2 for Simpkin? No thanks. Thats likely to be a pick in the late 40s, mid 50s by the time father sons and academy comes into play.

Trading a best 22 player and having to wait an extra year before seeing any benefits on field isn’t wise

For Clarko maybe.

It certainly is for the club.

Taking these hair cuts for immediate hits is what got us in the shit in the first place.

You simply take the best deal on offer and then try and trade back into more recent currency if need be.

Did you miss the R1 also?

Are we talking about the same player?

He wouldn't be a captain at any other side, is grossly overpaid and not been close to an AA midfielder.

What are you expecting? A top 10 pick, simply for optics reasons?

No i did not. Id push for 2 first rounders. He's still got 4 years left on his contract, and if they value him that much, id be saying if you're willing to take the 4 years on, then pay up what you clearly think he's worth.

I dont see him as a huge loss personally, I think he's actually doing us a solid a way. Not that, that is his intention though.

He's probably at max value at the moment for the remainder of his career.

Remove his rotations will enable us to get FOS some time in the middle next season.

McKercher also.

Wardlaw staying fit and playing the entire year is key now.

You say that as if it's a positive?

Any prospective suitor having to pay Simpkin on average $800-$900k until he is 32 decreases his value, not increases it.

His contract will be his hardest selling point. I imagine we will be chipping in big time if we are getting anything decent at the trade table.

We could also play Duursma or George or a draft pick and add some size and better disposal in his hhf/wing spot.

Well, if you go by the Filth's Board, they've largely settled on a third rounder for Jy on the proviso we pay 3/4 of his salary and he coaxes Harry Sheezel to join him in 2027.

Not looking promising.
Yeah but they share one brain cell between them
