If that's how the draft falls I would just take a punt on Barker.

Every year people listen to our lead recruiters say they are going to be guided by best available and then act like not only that they didn't just say it, but have never said it. Then proceed on to have a nuclear melt over one pick. We are not going to materially reach for anyone with 1st or 2nd round picks. There are over 40 people on an AFL list. You can worry about squad positional balance with late picks, the rookie draft and SSPs / DFAs.

He's an Eastern Ranges midfielder, who has a hard edge. Also who the heck is Josiah Landy? Sounds Amish, which would be awesome if we needed a barn built.
So long as you mean Nathan & not Emma, that's ok.Are there any players with poor ball drops who can kick to a high standard at AFL level?
Kyle gives me O'Driscoll vibes, rather than the Callaghan comparison that has been made by some.
Would love Schubert. WowCal Twomey's 2025 Phantom Draft: Top 30, late picks, whispers - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1453760
Has us bidding on Williams and Sweid before settling on Schubert.
Mentions we may have a swing at Carmichael also...
Oliver Greeves not in top 30 is even wilder! Don't see as a fit for Freo but surely must be close to best available at 26.Harley Barker sliding to 28 is wild.
What about Griffin Logue? You’ll just never convince me that a Key Defender is ever the best available pick in a first round.
We love turning Forwards into defenders, so Schubert would be fine.

Agree small forward is top priority, but have felt we need one more KPF in development to balance our squad. Thought we could use 47 or rookie first pick on KPF like Curtin or Hetherton, but if Schubert is still on board at 26 then maybe we just go with best avaialable and get our KPF there. Combine the two SA talls - Nichols last year (who many still think is a future KPD solution for us) and Schubert. Maybe late pick/rookies are the Freo speciality for small forwards!
Yeah he is a terrific athlete, no doubt he could play the other end with great success.
We were picking at 34 last year and went NichollsSure, we’re picking at 26 not 12
And it could be that even if he’s good enough, Voss, Amiss and Treacy kick 40 plus for their ten years and he never plays.
Dunno about that. Rookieme lists his agility as below average and speed as average. That's a bigger problem for a KPD than a KPF. Plus his kicking action looks horrific and I wouldn't want him doing anything other than shooting at goal.
Bit harsh on Carmichael. Averaged 25 disposals in u18 champs, was Allies Captain, MVP and All Australian. Elite kick, averaged 82 percent disposal efficiency which was the highest amongst the top 15 possesion winners at the champs.I don't think anyone has any real idea what Freo are thinking. In the last section all Twomey could come up with is Kickett and an almost unknown player.
I'm also not convinced we will go on a bidding frenzy. Walls seems like a minimum of fuss type of operator who couldn't be stuffed with that kind of thing (unless he genuinely thinks the bid won't get matched).
Have a sneaking suspicion that Rodriguez is still in play for our first pick. Not saying that is my preference, but I don't quite see why players like Carmichael and Addinsall for example are seen as someone we might bid on.
Go with Thredgold then.Dunno about that. Rookieme lists his agility as below average and speed as average. That's a bigger problem for a KPD than a KPF. Plus his kicking action looks horrific and I wouldn't want him doing anything other than shooting at goal.
I'd add midfield depth to that list tbh. Think we'll need it in a few years when these draftees are really ready to contribute. Most pressing needs.
Wings, small and mediums forwards and. Back up ruck (Cox)
Sure…let’s have a key forward.
It would make me irrationally angry
I’ve warmed to Thredgold. He is an intercepting third tall type.I'd add midfield depth to that list tbh. Think we'll need it in a few years when these draftees are really ready to contribute.
And yes I know Robinson is coming in next year but if we could add a different type of mid but still one that can play inside minutes I don't think I'd walk away thinking we went completely against needs.
It's only really talls I don't want, with the exception of the mature aged back up ruck with our last available list spot.
