AFL Club
Carlton
Winners
1. Essendon
The Dons have done really well may have completely rebuilt their midfield in one draft

2.Gold Coast
Got two of the best players in the draft plus all their academy kids, but had to sell the farm to do it.

3. . Carlton
Got the best tall in the draft and added assets to next years draft.

4.North Melbourne
Filled two important list needs and found a way to turn a horror trade around.

5.Brisbane
Won the flag and still picked up a top 5 pick and the best pure midfielder in the draft.

Losers
1.West Coast
Had an incredible draft hand and botched it, CDT is a horrible fit for them, wasted a future 2nd, missed out on a gun FS.

2.Collingwood
Needed to get some young high end talent in and did nothing.

3.Port Adelaide
So much SA talent on offer and they didn’t land any of it.

4.Richmond
Did ok but should have taken Robey

5.People who say you can’t tell who won the draft before players have even played a game.
Yes we know but you can still have a little fun and have an opinion on which clubs used their picks well.

Why is CDT a horrible fit for WCE?

They don't seem to be exactly swimming in tall talent at present.

It wasn’t a smart pick for them because CDT is a ruck thats gonna take years to develop
He could easily get sick of getting belted every week and request a trade back to Victoria.
They already have players that fill that ruck forward role pretty well, they desperately needed midfielders
so they really should of traded down from pick two or just taken the highest rated mid at pick 2.
They had an absolute stacked draft hand and didn’t address their biggest need at all.

This could be Essendons best draft haul ever Robey,Sharp,Farrow look big solid units already can wait to see them play. Reckon Sharp is going to be an absolute gem and future captain imo.

Richmond did us a solid by letting us draft Robey thank you Tigers 👍

That’s why I had you guys as the biggest winner, Robey Sharp and Farrow could be your starting midfield in 3 or 4 years
To build such important part of your list in one draft is great list management.

He more likely to be a KPF who chops out in the ruck.

They don't have much tall talent up forward with Allen gone.

They know they won't be moving far up the ladder this season so drafting mids can happen again next season.

Someone's still salty about an early bid...

So, you're saying we should've just reached for a worse player with pick 2?

Bit harsh on Richmond considering Robey’s performance is a small sample size 🤷‍♂️.

Yeah it is a little harsh, but Cummings only had a small sample of high performance too, he got hurt after a few really good games in SANFL
Grlj also had an up and down year, looked really good and when Champs came around he was pretty poor for Vic Metro
He played ok for Richmond VFL, but neither of these two dominated all year.

Hawks big winners IMO, didn't like the picks on the first night but their whole draft has rounded it out and gave them greater context. Love Dalton, think if he was 5cm taller he's a top 10 pick and Greeves in the rookie draft is ridiculous. In a good team that drives standards, he will make many look silly.

Nairn, Schubert, Dalton, Greeves, Leray and two future second rounders is a seriously good hand for the picks they had.

I'm not just saying this, but I'd rate Hawthorn's haul as second behind Gold Coast's.

Traded back twice to acquire multiple assets in next years draft.

Drafted Cameron Nairn who could literally be anything.
Schubert was rated by many as the best KPF in the draft.
Dalton is the high accumulation mid our list simply doesn't have, so fills a big need.
LeRay has massive potential as a pure wing. Now can focus entirely on footy after having to decide between it and cricket.

And Greeves as a rookie who was rated by most watches for years as a guaranteed first round selection.

Drafts are all speculative, of course. But the Hawks have as much right to be optimistic about their haul as anybody.

Essendon not far behind. Usually their drafting is cause for praise with a tongue firmly planted in the cheek. Not this year. I would have loved all of Robey, Farrow and Sharp.

So, you're saying we should've just reached for a worse player with pick 2?

I got to see him at a Falcons v Canons game.

I think with the right coaching he's got all the tools to turn into a top player at AFL level.

Such an athletic specimen that moves very well for his size.

Really like Matt Rosa he's already rebuilding/fixing the list in just two drafts where Dodoro had like 20 years lols

Don't know about others but I am pleasantly pleased with the Hawks haul.

and Ollie greaves in Rookie Draft who may end up debuting before the others if he proves himself in preseason & at Box Hill.

and got 2 F2's to add to next years raid on Humphreys or the less likely Butters. Hopefuly Blues slid down and aare happy with the Compo pick for Walsh to let him to move to us as well.

Then if needed, Merret to join as FA in 2027 for a token salary for all the sh1t his manager put us thru insisting to play by his game instead of ours. Didn't take our warning of Dons will try to screw us over which they did when they reneged on their asking price after we met it. Any club dealing with them in future will want deals to be done well before end. Could have got Trac instead.

I think you should of traded down from pick two and got some midfielders in.
You guys had a stacked draft hand and have the worst midfield in comp by far and with all those pick you haven’t added any midfielders, that’s madness to me…
You guys didn’t need CDT and the risk that comes with him..

Why?

You don't trade out a possible A+ grader(on potential) to bring in a couple of b+ graders(on potential).

The whole point of having the highest pick is to bring in the projected best player/s possible.

In a few years' time, our core midfield will be 2x pick 1 mids and 1x pick 2 ruck.

That's not counting development of other players we already have.

The main issue is that our midfield was so bad this year because we didn't have any senior mids either available(Yeo) or playing well(Kelly).

The rest are all young and inexperienced. Bring in the 3 midfielders on Monday will go a ways to address this shortcoming over the next couple of years whilst those with more potential develop.

Also, what 'risk' comes with CDT? He's an athletic beast and accumulated the ball very well. Is a competitor and a mature character. Seems fairly low risk, if anything.

Your name isn't Jasper Chellappah by any chance?
